Beginning our Student! Case Analysis

4th grader Very smart and loves to read; often reads as a way to escape social situations. Loves cats and talks about them all of the time. Flare for the dramatic: arts, singing, dance Great at math and science Challenges with speaking Picks at her skin and scabs probably at least 10% of the time, increasingly when anxious or frustrated. Fine motor challenges, hated handwriting. Flexibility challenges, trouble compromising. Very empathetic when it doesn’t involve a conflict with her desires. Wants to initiate conversations with adults, and would use scripts but not quite sure what to say after the opening few lines. Forgetful, would do homework but leave it at home. Trouble organizing her materials. Typing and drawing are her best modes of communication. Preferred quiet. Lots of noise or one loud noise puts her over the edge.
