THE FINAL REPORT HEATHER IZGANICS

Week 1- June 29, 2014 Monday- Worked on clothing allotment numbers, finding new employees in the system then transferring them over to their new district managers. Also worked on the August Directives for the many department stores of Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Dillards and Bon Ton. Tuesday- Worked on August Directives as we are on a time crunch and are needing them to be done this upcoming week. They need to arrive in the stores no later than two weeks into the month of July. I also collected all new site surveys for the various department stores. I look over the footwear and accessories departments. These site surveys go out to see if a new location will work for a Michael Kors stores inside. Wednesday & Thursday- Wednesday through Friday, I am mainly focuses on the directives and working with them in Photoshop and InDesign. It takes up a lot of my time as this is the main task my supervisor and I work on throughout the week. Friday- I worked on a SJO (special job objective) with the retail visual team. All the interns have to complete one of these as it helps to specify a specific task that they are interested in. I will attached it to the email so that you may see what I typed up for my supervisor. I also learned how to pull new shop lists for footwear, accessories and men’s accessories. I compile this lists into one then send it off to the entire corporate office. This way everyone can see where new store locations will be and the dates of when they will launch. The head supervisor of my team revised my directives today, I will now work on the corrections to get them out by next week.

Week 2- July 6, 2014 Monday- I worked on the clothing allotment numbers, finding new employees in the system then transferring them over to their new district managers. I also finished the August Directives for the many department stores of Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Dillards and Bon Ton. Tuesday- I worked on all the corrections for the August Directives, the directives now need to be plugged into InDesign where I will then transfer the photos and write the corresponding product under the pictures. They directives which are the books for the department stores will be finished by the end of this coming week. I also collected all new site surveys for the various department stores, footwear, table drops and shops in shops. The final photos that I pull for these site surveys will then be looked over by my supervisor and many others to determine if the location of the survey is right for the Michael Kors Brand. Wednesday- I really focused on placing the directives into InDesign. The InDesign processes for the directives is new to me so I had to take my time in making sure everything is getting placed in the correct spot. I had off Thursday and Friday for the Holiday.

3

Week 3- July 13, 2014 Monday- I worked on finishing the August directive in InDesign. Making sure all corrections and product information was correct, this directive needs to go out next week. Tuesday- Still finished working on the August directive. We had a small intern get together where a few ladies from the licensing department set up a presentation about their department and what they do there. It was every interesting to see all the licensing brands that Michael Kors has partnered with. Wednesday- We had a “dry run” in our office today. This coming week we are getting ready for the big Summit presentation that will last all week. I will only be going two out of the four days of Summit. Everyone from the retail department and hr department were practicing in the office. We got to listen to many of them as I worked on the August Directive as well. Thursday- My superior and I are now in the process of putting the footwear directive together for all major department stores (Macy’s, Dillard’s, Lord and Taylor, Belk, Bon Ton and Bloomingdales) This footwear directive should be going out by the end of July. This will be another main focus of mine for the next few weeks. I also had my first touch base with the HR recruiter who hired me for the internship, Megan Nelson. We spoke about a possible job within the company after my internship is over. As of now there is nothing available for an entry level position but in 2 months you never know! She was super positive and helpful about finding me a job. I also have been applying online to other companies. Friday- I focused on getting all my footwear photos organized and started rendering them in photoshop for the August footwear directive.

4

Week 4- July 20, 2014 Monday- Obtained all the new hires from the week before, placed them into a format then sent them to all the District Managers that were needed. I also worked on finishing the August directive in InDesign. Making sure all corrections and product information was correct, this directive needs to go out next week. From 2- 4:30 a small group of the interns had their Jet-Set training at the Rockefeller Center Michael Kors. Everyone has to go through this training when working at any Michael Kors. From previously working at Michael Kors in Atlanta I was very familiar with the process. It was actually great to go through it again Tuesday- Finished up working on the August directive. My supervisor corrected the ones that needed to be fixed, I spent most of the day correcting them and placing them into the corrected format. Wednesday- Myself and another intern from the retail department, got to go to the Summit Presentation. Summit was all week long. We went to the W at Union Square, stayed and watched the opening, had lunch with all the men and women who came to Summit. There was around 65 people there from all over the States as well as Europe. We left around 1pm then headed back to the office where I finished the day working on a corrections sheet for our photographer who shot all the Holiday 2014 Accessories. I have to go back and check his mistakes then send him back a list of corrections needed. Thursday- Our supervisor’s gave all the retail interns the day off. Since no one would be in the office due to Summit. Friday- Worked on the August directive for Belk mainly. Placed all the Accessories information inside the book, these books will be due next Friday. Also the interns got to have a meet and greet with the President of Accessories, Footwear, and RTW, Anna. She was great! She told us her how she got to Michael Kors then we got to ask questions, it lasted around 2 hours.

5

Week 5- July 27, 2014 Monday- Worked on the corrections for the August directives, these directives are due by the end of the week, Friday. I also received and sent out to all the district managers, the new hires within Michael Kors retail shops. Tuesday- Finished up working on the August directives, there are six directives. It usually takes me all day to correct and finish two of them. Wednesday- Finished up working on the August directives. By the end of the day today, I finished three of them completely, Macy’s, Dillard’s and Belk. My supervisor reviewed them then sent them over to Fallon, she oversees the retail visual department. Thursday- Finished up the other directives, I completed all of them by the end of the day, Bloomingdale’s, Bon Ton and Lord & Taylor. Friday- My superior and I spent the whole day going over the process of the footwear directives. These directives need to go out normally the same time the retail directives do. These directives, footwear will be our main concern for this coming week.

6

Week 6- August 3, 2014 Monday- I started working on the footwear directives, this is also another large project that my superior and I have to work on. We need to make the footwear directives for Belk, Dillard’s, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Bon Ton and Lord & Taylor. I also received and sent out to all the district managers, the new hires within Michael Kors retail shops. Tuesday- We are getting ready to shoot Holiday Footwear and Resort Footwear 15’. Today we spent most of the day in the footwear showroom, collecting and sorting through which shoes will go with each shop (department store). Wednesday- Had to be at the office around 6:45am to meet up with my supervisor and the photographer. We then drove to the Michael Kors warehouse where they shoot all accessories, RTW, and footwear products. We spent around four hours shooting Holiday and Resort 15’ footwear. It was really great to see how they photograph all the products, these photos are what I use to then make each directive. Thursday- Spent most of the day placing together all the footwear in the correct fixtures. Each footwear directive needs to be done by next Wednesday. We are a little behind schedule. Friday- My supervisor was not in the office today, she had a meeting out in Chicago. I only had to come into the office to finish up the rest of the footwear directives and to make sure everything was placed into the right fixtures. I left the office around 1pm.

7

Week 7- August 10, 2014 Monday- This entire week my superior and I focused on placing the footwear products into the correction fixtures and displays. From there, we place all the footwear fixtures into photoshop and then the finished directive book is made in InDesign. I also received and sent out to all the district managers, the new hires within Michael Kors retail shops. Tuesday- Main focus was working on the footwear directives. We have six department stores (six books) that needs to be completed by the end of the week. I also received and printed out all site surveys to be reviewed by the other supervisors in the retail development department. From reviewing those site surveys, they decided where each new Michael Kors Shop in Shop should be placed. Wednesday- Again the main focus was working on all the footwear directives. My supervisor and I split them up so that we could finish them faster. Thursday- I created a main directive, this directive will be the main template for all of the directives to go by. We will then place all the fixtures into this main directive. Friday- The HR department held a bagel and coffee brunch for the interns. Many of the interns are leaving soon. We all got a chance to sit around and discuss what we’ve been doing inside the department for which we are interning in. I then spent the rest of the day working on the footwear directives.

8

Week 8- August 17, 2014 Monday- The footwear directives were due by Wednesday. My supervisor and I spent the next three days focusing on finishing the footwear directives and correcting them. I also received and sent out to all the district managers, the new hires within Michael Kors retail shops. Tuesday- Main focus again was to work on the footwear directives, revise and correct them. Wednesday- Again the main focus was working on all the footwear directives. We sent all footwear and accessory directives over to FedEx to have them printed out then shipped to every Michael Kors, Shop in Shop. Shop Managers will be able to order these directives through the next two weeks. Thursday- My superior and I started mocking up the September Accessories Directives. Since we just finished up the footwear directives for the months of August, September and October. We now have to focus on getting the September Accessories (handbags and wallets) out by Monday, August 25th. Friday- I mocked up my first directive plan for Bloomingdales, my supervisor then revised it. From the revised Bloomingdales directive, I will then go into Photoshop and create all the fixtures that will be needed.

9

Week 9- August 24, 2014 Monday- My supervisor and I worked on finishing the mock ups for all September Directives. This is where we draw up templates for how everything will be placed inside all the shop in shops. We split the accounts in half, I drew up Lord and Taylor, Belk and Bloomingdales. She had already revised one account. I was still needing to finish Belk and Lord & Taylor. I also received and sent out to all the district managers, the new hires within Michael Kors retail shops. Tuesday- I spent most of the day finishing up the mock ups for all three accounts I had to work on. By end of days I completed all three accounts. Wednesday- Today was the start of placing and creating all accounts of September into Photoshop. This is where we make all the fixtures, then they are placed into InDesign. Thursday- Spent half of the day placing and creating all the September accounts into Photoshop. We then headed to the Lord and Taylor new Footwear Shop on 37th and 5th Avenue. We had to go in and correct all the placement of the shoes. There was a walk through with the Vice President of Footwear Friday morning. Friday- My supervisor was out of the office, I stayed through the whole day and finished all accounts that needed to be placed into Photoshop. I also started placing Lord & Taylor in InDesign. These were then sent off to the Director to review for next weeks corrections.

Company: Michael Kors Inc. Job Title: Retail Development Visual Intern Loctaion: New York City Review: The oppurtuity to be an intern at Michael Kors has been great. Not only have I learned many new things, I have also gotten the chance to see the “backend” of how Michael Kors works. I was placed into the Retail Development Department. They wanted me to be in this department due to the fact that I already had knowledge about the “life style” stand still stores. They wanted me to see how shop in shops actually work, “stores within department stores.” I was paired with Allie Shepard who orignially had interviewed me. When I arrived to the Michael Kors Headquarters Office, I was told my supervior had quit and that Kate Pietroburgo would be my new supervior. She had only been in her positon of Visual Communications Coordinator for a little under a month. Through out the next ten weeks my main focus was to work on “directives.” These directives are books that are given to every shop in shop, this includes all Bon Ton’s, Bloomingdale’s, Belk, Lord & Taylor, Macy’s and Dillard’s. I would be creating six different books each month (August, Septmember and October). These six books were for all accessories which included hangbags and small leather goods. I also made six books total for Footwear, three months were included in one book for the footwear products. Throughout the many weeks, my Photoshop and InDesign skills advanced drastically, these two softwear programs I worked in every single day. I also worked on receiving and sending out all new hires which were mainly new shop managers. I would send the clothing allotment order forms to all of them. This was how they ordered their clothing, handbags and footwear personally for work. I also worked on maintence orders, when shop managers had call outs of different problems within their shops, I would send these call outs through construction in a Goole Document. One other thing I worked in was obtaining and collecting all new site surverys and final photos for new shops. Below is an August, Macy’s Directive. I had created all six books for the month of August which have already been sent out. I am working on Septement Directives right now. This directive is the biggest with the most product inside. I made this book with my supervior, guiding me through any problems I might of had. Pros: -Got the chance to see the other side of Michael Kors, the corporate side. -Adanced my photoshop and InDesign skills. -Worked with visuals from a different point of view. Cons: -The attitude of my supervior. -Not being able to be apart of meetings or conversations. -Would have liked to see more of visual merchandising. 11

MICHAEL MICHAELKORS KORS 12

GUIDELINE FEATURES SHOP FLOW:

All Michael Kors shop environments are divided into three to four areas, designed to create the best possible shopping experience for the customer. Each of these areas are highlighted in order to help you in executing the monthly floor-set:

FEATURE AREA: The Feature Area is the first space the customer approaches and is therefore the main focal area of the shop. All new deliveries should be merchandised in this area. Create excitement in the feature area by highlighting your most fashion-forward product.

SECONDARY AREA: The Secondary Area is the next prominent area of the shop, typically located directly behind or next to the Feature Area. Often times, this is where the product from the previous month’s delivery should be merchandised.

SLG AREA: All SLGs (small leather goods) should be merchandised either in the SLG Vitrine or in the SLG Wall. Merchandise these products throughout the shop within their matching collection—most notably crossbodies, wallets and clutches.

MARKDOWN AREA: Markdowns are to be merchandised in the least focal area of the shop, out of the customer’s initial view. Only first markdowns should be merchandised in the shop; second and third markdowns must be moved to a designated area outside of the shop.

COLOR STORIES:

Each section of the store should represent the given month’s assigned color story. It’s imperative that the color stories are closely followed when merchandising the shop. There may be instances in which silhouettes are replaced depending on assortment, but the color story should always be followed. These design narratives will also prove useful when merchandising locations that do not classify as standard Shop environments.

BACKWALL & FIXTURES:

When setting the floor, start with your backwall. There are 3 main types, choose the backwall that best fits your Shop. After setting your backwall, fill in your fixtures shown throughout the directive.

BACKWALL: The backwall is the most focal part of the Shop. Each back wall should follow one color story. EVERYTHING TABLE: Found in Top-Shop Doors, this table should be used to highlight 1 color story in multiple coordinating collections. Bags should be staggered on the main table, featuring 1-2 styles from the same collection. Items on the side nesting table should always face out. W-1.5 SMALL LEAD TABLE: Often in the most focal area of the Shop, this fixture should feature one collection in the newest color story. Product should be merchandised light to dark, left to right. Adhering to maximum capacities is key on this fixture. W-1.7 LARGE LEAD TABLE: Often in the most focal area of the Shop, this fixture should feature one collection in the newest color story. Product should be merchandised light to dark, left to right. Adhering to maximum capacities is key on this fixture.

W-3.6 NESTED TABLE: Typically in a more focal area of the Shop, these tables should follow one color story, featuring one collection. The back J-Stand should always display a minimum of 2 bags. The front bag on the back J-Stand should reflect the same color of the bag on the front nested table. W-1.2/W-1.4 FOLD TABLE: This fixture is used to highlight 1-2 specific styles from the same collection. Items should be merchandised light to dark, left to right.

W-3.14 DOUBLE T-STAND TABLE: This fixture is used to highlight 1-2 specific styles from the same collection. Items should be merchandised light to dark, front to back. The larger of the two styles should be placed on the right. A style from the same or coordinating collection should be placed on the front nested table.

W-19.5 DOUBLE T-STAND: This fixture is used to highlight tote styles. Items should be merchandised light to dark, front to back. The larger of the two styles should be placed on the bottom. 13
