Early Dehydration/Gut Rest Instructions: 1.

Stop all food and protein shakes for 1-2 days

2.

Drink 100% juice in ½ measuring cup and mixed in ½ cup water every 3-4 hours to prevent hypoglycemia (low blood sugars) while hydrating.

3.

Continue to take vitamin regimen if chewable calcium bothers you stop it for 1-2 days until you are rehydrated (you will not become calcium or vitamin D deficient within a few days)

4.

You will need to drink a total of 60-70+ ounces of combined fluids including juices per day to catch up and prevent the ER visit.

5.

Get PowerAde zero, crystal light pure (in white box), and or G2 zero in the local grocery store as these contain electrolytes to hydrate you more quickly. (drink some of these every day in addition to the list of 10-15 calorie fluids below)

6.

If water makes you feel too full do not drink it plain. Plain water and very icy cold beverages cramp the pouch up in the early stages post-op.

7.

Warm fluids work well and the list below works well. Water flavored beverages down if too sweet.

8.

No caffeinated beverages.

9.

If you are unable to get or keep this levels of fluids down you will need to go to the ER for hydration by IV. This means you are too far gone for orally hydrating.

10. You must measure your fluid intake and stop exercise routine and call your Dietitian for updates. Clear Liquid List:        
