A LEVEL FASHION AND TEXTILES Awarding body: AQA Course Outline: This course is for those wishing to follow an artbased approach to Fashion, Textiles and Design, concentrating on experimentation with a diverse range of specialist techniques and processes. You will need to have a skill and passion for creativity and be prepared to use drawing and recording of primary research as a starting point for designs. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through the production of a coursework portfolio, personal investigation and two externally set assignments. What will I study? You will develop your understanding of how elements such as colour, pattern, composition, line and tone can be used to express ideas. You will also have the opportunity to explore a range of materials and processes to help you record and develop your ideas. It is a chance for pupils to extend their enthusiasm for History, studying the significance of events and individuals, considering how societies change over time and affect the world in which we live. How will I be assessed? A Level law is 100% examination with exams taking place in May/June each year. There are two exams in Year 1: Unit 1 Law Making and the Legal System (1 hour 30 minutes) and Unit 2: The Concept of Liability (1 hour 30 minutes). In year 2 there are a further two exams: Unit 3 Criminal Law (Offences Against the Person) (1 hour 30 minutes) and Unit 4 Criminal Law (Offences Against Property) and Concepts of Law (2 hours). What will I study? Year 1: The role of magistrates and juries in the criminal system; the criminal law, the law of negligence and how damages may be claimed. Year 2: The focus of this year is on criminal law. Level 2: Bridging Year Course outline The Level 2 bridging year is to support students who wish to go on do Level 3 qualifications and are not yet ready to meet the demands of an Applied A level course. This will support students who have failed to achieve 5 A*-C grades. Upon successful completion in one year, this will enable students to move onto Level 3 courses. What will I study? Students will follow GCSE English and Mathematics as well as the following four BTEC National subjects: Travel and Tourism The BTEC travel and tourism qualification is an introduction into the dynamic nature of the tourism industry. The qualification allows students to look at the theory behind the industry which is the third largest employment sector in the UK. Design, Engineering & Construction Design, Engineer, Construct offers a new and innovative project based approach to learning that is both challenging and rewarding. By working their way through real life architectural brief, learners will develop knowledge and skills by undertaking a sustainable building project and, through the complementary workshops, have guaranteed face to face engagement with industry professionals. Business Studies This qualification is gives an introduction to business and enterprise that includes a vocational and hands-on element. The course focuses on types of business, entrepreneurs marketing and finance allowing students to engage in their final unit with a real business project idea. It has been developed to enthuse and inspire learners about a career in business and enterprise. The qualification will appeal to learners who wish to either set up their own business, move into employment or progress onto further study. Sport The course is made up of 4 units that the students have to complete. Unit 1 is covers understanding the principles of training and how they are used to allow sports performers to develop their fitness. Unit 2 looks at the risk and injuries involved in sport and this is completed as an online exam. Unit 3 looks at the body response to exercise and focuses on the different body systems. Unit 4 is sports nutrition and allows the students to understanding what it is important to eat and why. The course has been designed to allow students to gain knowledge in the classroom and also through practical aspects of the course. How will I be assessed? English and Maths will be externally assessed through examinations. The four BTEC National courses will be assessed through a combination of internally and externally assessed units of work.
