Hello, my name is Noah and I want to teach you about some shapes and how complex they are, such as a square. You may think, well, I know that a square has four sides, and right angles, but there is so much more, like vertices, but I will get into that in the sections coming up next.

The Isosceles Triangle An Isosceles Triangle is a very important geometrical shape that is even used in everyday life, pretty much everywhere!

• • • • •

two sides are the same length at least two angles are acute two angles are the same size has only three vertices all the angles add up to 180 degrees

Definition of an Isosceles Triangle: an isosceles triangle is a triangle that has two sides that have equal length. the sides have to have two, and only two sides that are equal

The Parallelogram A parallelogram is a shape that has two pairs of parallel sides and angles.

• has four sides • has two obtuse angles and two acute angles • is a quadrilateral • a rectangle, rhombus, and square are all parallelograms • both pairs of sides are congruent and parallel Definition Of Parallelogram: a four-sided figure with opposite sides parallel.

The Square The square is so geometrically helpful to society that you can find it pretty much anywhere you go, from fences, to houses, in games that most play such as baseball, and even in the form that you’re reading this in, I bet you that there is a square.

• has four sides • all angles add up to 360 degrees and each angle is 90 degrees • all sides are congruent and only connect at the vertices • all lines are straight and equal • is a quadrilateral Definition of Square: a plane figure with four equal sides and four right angles.

The Trapezoid A trapezoid is a very complex polygon that is a very popular shape when making tables, as shown below.

• has one set of parallel sides • two, and only two angles are acute • the parallel sides are called bases • the area of a trapezoid is determined by taking half of the product of the altitude and the sum of the bases Definition of a Trapezoid: is a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.

The Concave Hexagon The concave is a very weird polygon. A Concave shape is one where one or more diagonal lines are outside of the shape.

• has six diagonals • has six sides • one or more diagonals fall outside of the shape

Definition Of a Concave Hexagon: A polygon that has one or more interior angles greater than 180 degrees Definition Of Diagonal: a diagonal is a line that connects two vertices that aren’t already connected
