How healthy do you eat? By: Marie Pittman

Introduction I made this survey for my seventh grade math final project. This survey was to find out how healthy people in Hebron eat. I sent out ten questions in my survey and got one hundred responses. I narrowed down my results and picked out five to show you. I thought that the question about how healthy people think they eat was the most fascinating for me because the large amount on seven and eight.

I thought that there would be more people that eat a lot of processed food because I always see people eating processed food. However, my results show that more people report that they don’t eat a lot of processed food. Only 37.4% say that they eat a lot of processed food. After getting my data back, I think I could have been more specific on my question to get more reliable data.

This question was designed to discover how healthy people think they eat. Each individual was asked to rate themselves on a scale of one through ten. One was the most unhealthy and ten was the most healthy option. Most people in my survey reported that they think they eat on the healthier side of the spectrum. The median of these results was .

The reason I asked this question was because Mr. Crofton made me. I think he made me because I could have compared the responses from the girls and the boys. I wish I would have thought of that before I made these graphs. Maybe I would have found a big difference in their responses. Now all I have is a boring pie graph showing that it was about fifty-fifty.

I found this question to be one of the most objective questions in my survey. It doesn’t leave much room for interpretation as some of the others do. The mode, or most popular response for this question was “once in a blue moon” standing tall at forty two votes. I am surprised by this information because I often see people drinking soda around campus.

Again, I think I could have been more specific with my question. This is because you and I might disagree on what most vegetables means. However, what I did learn was that most Lumberjacks think they like most vegetables and only a small percentage do not.

Conclusion

From this data I conclude that the people at Hebron Academy are healthy eaters. Most of them report they are pretty healthy eaters. They report that don’t eat a lot of processed food and don’t drink a lot of soda. They also report they like most vegetables. If I were to do this again, I would ask more objective and specific questions to get more reliable and measurable data. I would compare the data from the girls and the boys to find out if there were any differences. I could also do comparisons by age or grade. I enjoyed doing this as my 7th grade math survey because it taught me how I could improve on my next survey.
