01 DESERT SPINE Hyperloop University Individual Work/ 2021 Site: Mojave Desert, America Supervisor: Luc Email: jidipan@gmail.com Establish an advanced research center on hyperlinks in the Mojave desert. The architectural form is inspired by the distribution of animal spines. The functional areas supplement the free space and make up for the traffic defects of linear channels. In addition, the functional area designed around the hyperloop pipeline has efficient utilization in the vertical direction at the same time, in order to meet the needs of different groups of people. Because of the abundant plants in the area, I choose to raise the whole campus to avoid damaging the vegetation. A common goal and commitment is set up as open source research, in which a lot of tests and simulations have been carried out due to collective and international commitment: hyperloop desert campus intends to pursue this cooperation mode according to the vision of community and unity, and it sees the most visionary talents on the planet in the common goal, that is, to realize in the next decade Now the first super loop network is completed.

Latto@xjtlu.edu.cn Taking the old living style of Orkney as the research object, we can get a new understanding by observing the evolution law of the region. Starting from the space design following the body philosophy, we strive to find the balance between the old and new space. This awakening of traditional memory is of great significance to architectural design, and it is also likely to become a trend of development.

SITE ANALYSIS
TIMELINE OF HISTORICAL EVENTS
The islands were the rendezvous of the Marquess of Montrose's expedition in 1650. Around 565, the Picts tried to make people believe in Christianity. The names of several islands included the name "Papa" used to commemorate the ancient missionaries. In the Neolithic period, the Picts lived in the Orkney Islands.
During this period, the residents began to engage in various handicraft industries and new agricultural methods.
In 1472, the Kingdom of Scotland captured the entire territory of the archipelago, and the archipelago has been in Scottish territory ever since.
People lived here as early as the Stone Age 8,500 years ago.
In 875, it was occupied by Norway and settled by Norwegians.
One month into World War II, the Royal Navy battleship HMS Royal Oak was sunk by a German U-boat in Scapa Flow. As a result, barriers were built to close most of the access channels. These had the additional advantage of creating causeways whereby travellers can go from island to island by road instead of being obliged to rely on boats.
The last full-scale battle to take place on Orkney soil—the Battle of Summerdale—was fought in 1529, between the Sinclairs of Orkney and the Sinclair of Caithness.
Recent studies from the field of population genetics reveal a significant percentage of Norse ethnic heritage—up to one third of the Y chromosomes on the islands are from western Norwegian ancestry, as opposed to Shetland, where over half the male lineage is of Norwegian stock.
Twentieth century, in both World War I and World War II, the Royal Navy had a major base there, enabling them to challenge any attempt by German warships to emerge into the ocean through the Norwegian Sea.
Stromness (site location)
In the 1960s and 1970s there were reports about the potential for uranium mining between Stromness and Yesnaby. Margaret Thatcher's plans to open such a mine were halted in 1980 after local campaigning.
Orkney Islands
The site is located in the Orkney Islands north of Scotland. Studying the local history is the first step of the project. Because of the distinctive characteristics of the time, I decided to focus on the stone buildings of the Neolithic age.

These are some space designs based on the above concepts.
PERCEPTION EXPERIMENT They can correspond to different activities or behaviors. The main inspiration comes from the cave, and people use the hole as furniture.
The perception ability of different groups was studied through experiments. The specific method is to ask the experimenter to approach three different objects from eight directions, such as front, back, left, right, etc. when the experimenter stop moving forward, record the distance between the experimenter and the object.
These spatial units, through rearrangement, will form a larger space with multiple behavioral potentials.

DESIGN OF UPPER PART INPATIENT WARD
In order to withstand the strong winds prevailing throughout the year, Orkney's traditional houses have lived underground since the Neolithic age. Therefore, priority is given to placing some buildings underground.
A ward for patients who need long-term treatment and accommodation for accompanying family members.
RESEARCH CENTRE Provide office space for doctors and undertake disease treatment research at the same time.

03 PARALLEL PATHS Suzhou Public Library Individual Work/ 2020 Y2S2 Site: Suzhou, China Supervisor: Antonio Berton Email: antonio@on-design-studio.com The concept of parallel space comes from the ancient city map of Suzhou. The map regards the water system and the road system as two systems, and the whole Suzhou is like a parallel space where two systems are interdependent and do not disturb each other. Applying this concept to architectural design, the first thing I think of is to add an independent and open public browsing route to the design, which is not connected with the interior of the library. At the same time, the two routes also connect the aging community and the school district as the gathering hub of the two groups.

SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
The site is located in the old city of Suzhou, surrounded by some old buildings. It means that consistency in height needs to be considered if building consistency is to be maintained. In addition, after a survey of 1km around the site, I found that the main activity groups were the elderly and students, but almost no public building provided the intersection of the two groups of people.

PROPORTION OF FUNCTION As an undeveloped old city, it is far away from the commercial center. Housing covers nearly one-third of the total area of the region. These houses mainly include some old communities and single family houses. In fact, there is another common form of housing, with the ground floor as a shop.
Public facilities account for the largest proportion in the region, covering nearly half of the total area. This mainly includes streets, scenic spots, schools, civilized buildings and so on. It is worth mentioning that the famous Suzhou Museum and Humble Administrator's garden are in the area, which enhances the flow of people in the area. What's more, the schools in the area have given the old community a fresh breath.
The green area mentioned here refers to the large area of greening that can be seen in the proportion of the garden and the investigation, excluding the roadside green road. These afforests have made great efforts to beautify the environment in the region, and are also the main factors to attract tourists. 18 | 31

Urban planning of Suzhou
DESIGN PROCESS
This is a map of Suzhou City in Song Dynasty. The picture depicts in detail the roads and rivers of all sizes in the city. The concept of parallel space comes from this ancient urban map of Suzhou, and its unique double chessboard urban planning has attracted my attention. Taking water system and road system as two systems, the whole map of Suzhou city is like a parallel space in which two systems are interdependent and do not disturb each other. It can be understood that systems seem to be separated, but they are linked together in a certain sense.

PLANS Site design, I decided to use the curve path to achieve a balance with the building. In addition, the gray part is infrastructure, like benches. It is worth mentioning that the open space next to the site is a parking lot, and there should be no worry about parking. Then there is the plan section. I'm going to use different colors to represent the floors here. The sunken square in front of the basement attracts people to go down by setting up landscapes, markets and other areas. The two large staircases that you can see provide both indoor and outdoor gathering areas. On the ground floor, in addition to the use of arc elements to provide informal meeting space, but also designed a passageway directly from the interior to the outside of the venue. Public routes also start here. The whole floor of the first floor is the experience area of VR and AI, while the outdoor is a staircase activity area open to the public at different ground heights. The idea comes from the saying that life must have cracks in order for light to shine in. The cracks mentioned here can be the difficulties and problems encountered, which further make people feel depressed. The definition of light, I understand here as religion and belief, brings hope and salvation to the people. The whole architectural form is mainly discussed in the space atmosphere and space form. Through the huge scale difference between people and buildings, it compares the insignificance of people in the world.

The town where the site is located only 30km away from the largest freshwater lake (Boden Lake) in the German speaking area. LIGHTING STRATEGY There is only one river running through the edge of the town area; in addition, there are some green areas adjacent to the site, which represents the cemetery and park, one of which is located on the site. In addition, it is worth mentioning that the site is close to one of the two most important roads of the town, and is located in the northeast corner of the whole town, with a good landscape view.
People lead to freedom and light. The idea relies on the skylight on the roof for natural lighting, and the spiral staircase connects the functional areas vertically. The atmosphere in which people go up is a baptism of freedom, and also a means of psychological healing, through sensory stimulation.
PLAN OF SITE From the site plan, we can see that there are several parking areas in the northeast corner outside the site, which solves the parking problem of the monastery. In fact, about two fifths of the area is a cemetery, and if you don't want to destroy it, the building needs to compromise its area. 23 | 31

FUNCTION
The plan of the building comes from the desire to keep the trees in the site. After marking the position of the tree, use the rectangle to tangent to the tree in the site. After repeating many times, you can get many different layouts. I chose one of them to continue. The dark area with more overlapping time is taken as the main building area, and the light color, that is, the place marked in yellow, is made into an exhibition area similar to the corridor.

Architecture is mainly discussed in space atmosphere and space form. The spatial form is closer to religion. Through the huge scale difference between people and buildings, it compares the smallness of people in the world. There is also a high atrium, which in religion means the longing for heaven and God. On the other hand, the atmosphere of the space is mainly borne by the light scene, and different atmospheres are created through different window opening strategies. I t i s p o i n t e d o u t h e re : f ro m darkness to light. This idea comes from Jacob's ladder in the Bible, which leads people to freedom and light. This idea mainly relies on the skylight of the roof for natural lighting, and the rotating stairs connect the functional areas together in the vertical direction. The atmosphere in which people are going up is not only a baptism of freedom, but also a means of psychological healing through sensory stimulation.

SECTIONS
The general layout of the underground floor and the ground floor are the same, but I use the floor height difference to separate the streamline of tourists and staff, which is also to ensure the privacy of the research and office area. Further up, there is several active space with different height, which is added around the central staircase, so that tourists can get a healing experience.
Sections show you how the interior works, including sculptural shaped stairs and special functional areas. It can be seen that the wall changes, so that the interlayer has a more stable supporting structure and a larger contact surface for support.

COLLECTOR Individual Work/ 2018 A character, a costume, a party, a story. Beginning with the story of the beetle collector. As the theme of collectors who are keen to collect beetle specimens, specimens and beetle wings are designed for elements that exhibit character characteristics. The group's picnics connect the characters, and then the story happens between them. What I did be to record this moment and build on it to develop a three-dimensional model, enclosing it in wax pouring, and presenting it as an interior shape in subsequent work. In addition, the activities of people in space will also be discussed, and the movements of collectors in the space of masks and sleeves will be expressed in the form of instantaneous photographs, and will also be in the wax model of the internal space to join the activities of people to reflect the sense of space.

During the picnic, beetle collector surround with other characters, intimately chatting, or fiercely arguing, each displaying their own charm. They gathered to form a closed space, and the story began.

Considering the streamlined nature of the shelter, we chose to use the more difficult elements.
Connect For the design of unit, a pentagonal structure with eggshell as the element is discussed in the group, which is connected by interpolation in different directions.
The monomer is connected by means of interpolation. In order to make the connection more stable, one opening is cut on two sides, so that the thickness of the monomer is just stuck in the gap.
Advantages of this monomer design are that the shape design fits the chicken design mentioned above, and the way of insertion will make the light transmission inside the shelter interesting.
Through folding, the monomer naturally for ms a height, and then through interpolation, multiple single weights are overlapped to form a surface.
H o w e v e r, t h e s h a p e c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s o f P e n t a g o n h a v e uncontrollable factors, which can not achieve the desired streamlined effect, and we have not found a good way to fix the intersection. In order to solve the defect of pentagonal unit in connection and development trend, we designed another diamond monomer to stand up by folding at the short axis. At the same time, the surface is formed by superposition.
Material
Advantages: easy fabrication; strong directional controllability; easy fixing of the insertion point. Disadvantage: small effective space, large demand for monomers.
We were asked to use corrugated boards as the main material for shelters. On the market, there are two kinds of common corrugated paper: 3 layers 3 mm thick 5 layers 5 mm thick. Although the 5 mm thick plate is more tough than the 3 mm plate, because the diamond unit needs to be folded at the short axis, we prefer the thinner corrugated plate. At the same time, lighter plates are more conducive to the later arc arrangement. So in the 1:2 model stage, we finally decided to choose 3 mm thick shelters.
Arrangement and production Children in the shelter
The basic level The design of the shelter is semienclosed. When we make the first layer of cushion, we consider this problem and surround the bottom layer with an unclosed circle. At the same time, according to the method mentioned above, the diamond element of the lowest layer is inserted into the bottom plate and fixed.
Development As the unit develops higher, we will pay special attention to the gradual development of a hood structure by changing the direction of the unit insertion.
In the middle of the development unit, the enlarged rhombic monomer acts as the mouth of the chicken. The difference is that there are more gaps in the large unit to be provided to the surrounding units.
