RESPONSIBLE PACKAGING DAVA shell eggs comes in responsible single-use packaging that is considerate towards environment and nature. PLASTICIC TRAYS Our plasticic trays are environmentally friendly, as they are produced of recycled soft drink bottles in PET plasticic. They can, after use, be recycled once again into new egg trays – a fine example of circular economy. PULP TRAYS The pulped-paper egg packaging is produced exclusively from biodegradable moulded fibre and is 100% recyclable and biodegradable, meaning that it can degrade back into the ecosystem. Both packaging options are available as branded label or private label.

ORGANIC FARM EGGS Farm Eggs are organic Danish eggs from selected, smaller farms where animal welfare is a major priority. Animal welfare means a lot to us at DAVA Foods. Our inspector, Susanne, regularly visits the organic egg farmers to perform a ‘welfare screening’. The screening focus on whether the hens thrive, whether their plumage is fine and whether they eat as they should. Susanne says that “happy hens make me happy”. We agree.

VI ÆLSKER = WE LOVE ORGANIC EGGS Few words hold such a strong meaning as ‘love’, but we truly love eggs. That is why ‘We Love’ is a declaration of love to animal welfare and the taste of the happy hen life from eight Danish organic farmers, who have the hens’ welfare as their first priority. It means that a “We Love” egg is guaranteed to have been laid by a hen that, from an age of just nine weeks, has had access to both indoor and outdoor areas all year. Outside, the hen can move freely, pecking around in the yard and flapping her wings. On a daily basis, the hen has access to organic feed and shares 1 m2 with a maximum of five other hens.

THE FARMERS Organic farming has become mainstream, boasting impressive growth rates over the last number of years. This has fostered new organic concepts that take a broader view of what organic farming entails. The eggs in this tray come from eight carefully chosen organic farmers, and apart from being organic, the farmers focus extraordinarily on animal welfare. EXTRAORDINARY FOCUS ON ANIMAL WELFARE The hens thrive - really well. They are free to move around outside and inside. Inside with natural light and a floor, covered in straw, wood shavings, sand or peat. In the outdoor areas, which as a minimum contain 70% vegetation, the hens enjoy life and keep the area free from weed and eat windfall fruit and insects.

ORGANIC GAARDBO EGGS The Gaardbo (literally: “Farm Dweller”) is a mythical figure; a little elf or gnome. Scandinavian farmers used to believe that this little creature crept around the farm to care for the animals and children living there. It also was important to take good care of one’s Gaardbo. The Gaardbo name was chosen to show that the hens on Gaardbo farms are particularly cared for. Gaardbo is a brand approved by Animal Protection Denmark, and the eggs come from smaller farms with a maximum of 18,000 hens.

AXEL’S ORGANIC EGGS More and more consumers are interested in the origin of their food and the way it is produced. They appreciate honesty, transparency and like to learn the story of the people behind their food. As is the case of Axel’s story. LOVE OF HENS AND RESPECT FOR NATURE DEFINE AXEL’S AGRICULTURAL PRACTICE. ABOUT AXEL MÅNSSON Axel has always known he wanted to be a farmer – even as a boy. Axel always found a trip to the fields to be funnier than school, and he spent all his spare time in the fields. No more than 20-years-old, he was an independent land-owner and farmer with a herd of his own. ANIMAL WELFARE Axel’s farming practices are through and through sustainable and with consideration for the hens’ welfare and behaviour. Throughout the year, they have access to outdoor areas with trees and bushes. Here, the hens move freely, pecking around in the yard, flapping their wings and satisfying their curiosity. At dinner time, they will be served Axel’s home-grown organic roughage. SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE At Axel’s farm, sustainability is more than a philosophy, it is a lifestyle. Axel follows a circular economy model where the hen droppings contribute to green energy – biogas. First, the biogas is used to heat approximately 4,000 households. Next, after degasification, it is used as fertilizer for Axel’s fields where he grows vegetables and feed for the hens.

FREE PLAY – FAMILY TIME IS PLAYING TIME In cooperation with FDF *), the Danish Christian Scout Organization, DAVA Foods has made this funny egg tray with one single purpose: to get children and adults to play more. FDF’s vision is that through play, fellowship and invention we challenge and activate ourselves and the world we live in. The games and plays FDF uses can vary from club to club, but elements such as music and being outside in nature often form a part of the games. *) FDF is one of the largest Christian organizations for children and youths in Denmark. SYNNEJYSK LANDEGH Synnejysk Landegh are Danish free range eggs from selected egg producers in ’Sønderjylland’ (Southern Jutland), the southernmost part of Denmark. The name ‘Synnejysk Landegh’ is quite unique, relating to the area of origin, and it was carefully chosen to show that these eggs are locally produced in Southern Jutland. “Synnejysk Landegh” is simply the vernacular spelling for ’Southern Jutland Farm Eggs’. Like all free range hens, the ‘synnejysk’ hens have access to a outdoor areas with plants under the open sky, every day, all year. The hen can walk as she pleases. When the weather is bad, she can go into the barn and enjoy roof over her head.

A FAMILY FARM Barkholt is a true family-owned farm with Karen and Nis-Jørn Diederichsen representing the 5th generation of this family of farmers. And, having four children themselves, the 6th generation should be secured. HISTORY GALORE The Barkholt farm was built in 1872 by Nis-Jørn’s great-great-grandfather, Asmus Diederichsen. The farm is almost 150 years old and has a rich history agriculturally and personally with respect to the Diederichsen family. HOMEGROWN FEED At Barkholt, more than half of the feed (e.g. wheat and rapeseed) is grown at the farm’s own fields. At the same time, the hen droppings are used as fertilizer for the fields. COLOURFUL YELLOW YOLKS The egg yolk of a Barkholt egg is extra yellow, which is owing to the well-balanced composition of the feed which is blended with natural plant dyes derived from marigolds. ROAMING FREE All Barkholt hens are free to move around in the barn in a sheltered environment, benefiting from aviary conditions that promote their natural behaviour. All hens have access to nests, perches and bedding.

SCRÆGG SCRÆGG – or Scraegg – is not just the world’s fastest scrambled eggs - they are probably also the world’s easiest. SCRÆGG is scrambled eggs steamed in a unique machine where steam and pressure help the natural fat in the egg yolk develop into a delicious, creamy and fluffy dish of scrambled eggs. This is without using any fat, oil or kitchen utensils or equipment, except for the machine. TO GO OR TO STAY? It is entirely up to you, how you will serve the SCRÆGG. DAVA Foods offers special To-Go cups in which you can steam the egg directly and sell to-go products to customers, or SCRÆGG can be elegantly served on a plate. ANIMAL WELFARE In a livestock production, animal welfare is important. To enhance animal welfare, organic Danish egg production ensures: • Welfare screenings focusing on plumage and the general welfare of the hens • The hens have access to both outdoor and indoor areas throughout the year • The outdoor areas must provide shelter and vegetation – a minimum of 50% of the area must be covered with trees and bushes • In the outdoor areas, there must be a minimum of 4 m2 per hen • The hens receive organic feed • Organic rearing and intensive salmonella control from day 0 • In the barn, there must be a maximum of 6 hens per m2 • In an organic hen flock, there can be a maximum of 3,000 hens

SUSTAINABLE EGG PRODUCTION With UN Sustainable Goal 15, Life on Land, as our inspiration, DAVA Foods works towards having a sustainable egg production and acting responsibly towards the environment, in which we operate. In this process, the organic egg production plays a major and important role, as this type of production is considerate to the environment, biodiversity and animals. Also consumers will become more conscious of their food choices and request more sustainable, animal-friendly products. Thus, we will complete sustainability analyses to measure and improve sustainability at each of our producers’ farms.

QUALITY & CONTROL ACROSS THE ENTIRE VALUE CHAIN
FOOD SAFETY Danish eggs are subject to strict and intensive salmonella and quality controls, which ensures that Danish eggs are among the safest in the world. As an example, Danish egg producers must submit samples for salmonella testing every other week - the EU requirement is every 15 weeks. At DAVA Foods, we take food safety seriously and go further: we subject our egg producers to weekly salmonella testing. At the same time, we are in close dialogue and cooperation with all our manufacturers to ensure quality throughout the entire value chain - from hatching and breeding, through to egg production and logistics. FARM TO TABLE One of the cornerstones of DAVA Foods’ business is our “Farm to Table” concept that sets high standards for quality, food safety, production and animal welfare. Our tight control system assures quality throughout all stages of the production process and value chain. HACCP DAVA Foods has built and implemented an HACCP-based quality management system applicable to all our breeders and egg producers. The quality system ensures the production of eggs in terms of quality, food safety, production conditions and animal welfare. The system has been developed in collaboration with egg producers and is continuously evaluated and improved. ANIMAL WELFARE The hens’ welfare is another important aspect of our concept. If their welfare does not meet both our and our customers’ expectations, action plans and follow-ups will be initiated at the individual producer. In addition, a special welfare screening has been introduced in organic egg production. All in all, DAVA Foods is intensively focused on food safety and everything this implies.

YOUR SAFETY GUARANTEE Our Danish DAVA eggs are unique, as in Denmark eggs are laid by hens that are tested free from salmonella infection. Whilst EU Standards require a test every 15 weeks, Danish Standards require a test to be performed every second week. DAVA Foods’ producers are subjected to salmonella testing and control every single week – guaranteeing our customers a safer choice. We ensure complete traceability and transparency from farm to table. All eggs from DAVA Foods Denmark A/S are stamped with the following code: 0=Organic or 1=Free range eggs, DK=Denmark, 12345=Farm number.

THE DAVA EGG – A SAFER CHOICE The Danish egg production is a world leader when it comes to food safety, traceability and animal welfare. We believe this to be the reason why our eggs are much in demand in countries outside Denmark. Our ‘DAVA – A safer choice’ eggs represent a unique selection of organic and free range eggs in a variety of sizes and package for export sale. YOUR GUARANTEE OF ANIMAL WELFARE All our organic and free range eggs, eggs under the ‘DAVA – A safer choice’ label are guaranteed to be laid by hens that, throughout the year, will have access to attractive outdoor areas with a minimum of 70% vegetation. Here, they can move freely, pecking around in the outdoor area, flapping their wings. We disallow beak trimming on all our farms, as animal welfare is of major importance to us.
