Recognition/ Nomination Tips

These quick tips can help you make every recognition /nomination moment count…

Whilst most employees prefer to have their recognition delivered immediately for a job well done, we also feel that public recognition by nominating someone for an award highlights the value and contribution that they bring to the business.

We must also take into account those who may not want public recognition, so please use your best judgement and take people’s individual preference into account.

We must also acknowledge our people with different cultures, values and customs. Ensure we do not create an atmosphere of winners or losers but that this is a fun and engaging programme focusing on accomplishments.

Why nominate?

• We are telling our people what the value and behaviours we are expecting

• We are acknowledging hard work and achievement

• We are encouraging peer to peer recognition

• We are sustaining engagement

• We are creating role models

• We are facilitating open feedback

• We are becoming coaches to others

• We are encouraging a ‘pay it forward’ culture

When you are contacted by HR to provide reasons for your nomination

– please consider the following:

• Provide specifics or the context for the recognition – why are you nominating this person?

• Was there a particular situation that led you to nominate the person for this award? If so, what was the outcome?

• What were the behaviours shown?

• Is the nomination appropriate to the award or the level of achievement? The nomination should be given for the achievement rather than one who may do someone else a favour

• Did it have an impact, was time invested?
