ARCHIP “NOT YOUR TYPICAL ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL...”
2017
...OR IS IT?
Highlights
Many factors contribute to a student’s academic performance, but among school-related factors, professors matter most. ARCHIPTalks tries to use student voice to improve teaching and learning at school. A questionarie was given to determine whether their evaluation of the professors’ performance and the feedback that they gave to them are useful to improve teaching effectiveness. An instrument of evaluation was outlined with the students give a certain score on the teaching performance of all the classes.

STUDENT’S VOICE “Classes are repeating and also very important classes are missing.” “A lot of things are overseen.” “AD studio leaders are very talented as professionals but lack actual teaching.” “The school seems to perpetuate a culture of not taking care of yourself in order to fulfill work requirements. “ “They should provide proper classes to teach their students the software and tools we should use as students instead of relying on students to learn them on their own.” “Some professors are dull, without proper English skills, without any interest to contribute to our education and knowledge.”

“From educational point, subjects are not giving enough of knowledge, and the price for school is not fare at all comparing to what we get.” “We should be able to have accessibility to third parties until they provide the adequate equipment, maybe a collaboration with a laser cutter service? Invest on providing the proper licences to the softwares in their existing computers, these are things that are expected from an architectural institution.” “Office should really take care of the curriculum and organisation. If you are not typical architecture school, then do it in a beneficial and positive way.“

Meet the winners INSIDE THE GYOR WORKSHOP
MOVING TO DOX ARCHIP is a small community within a small educational space and such it remains distinguishable, yet due to the bigger number of students and lack of space for profitable classes, we are moving in the beginning of the year 2018 to DOX II. The school area is an addition to DOX art gallery in its final stages of construction work. Meanwhile, the office is working on the layout for every particular space which will come as a surprise.
You should not worry, overworked students, we have got you covered by presenting your guide to the best on campus hideouts – spaces where you will be free, either individually of with a group, to embrace the unending twister of projects that require your complete devotion. The new building consists of two floors studio spaces, three lecture rooms on the 4th and 5th level, workshop and art studio in the basement level, one PC room and a large foyer for the students. But this is not all, because there is a huge conference room for five-hundred people which will also be rented for important events and guests lectures, as part of DOX official program. Moving to the new school building can be challenging, since we can not work at ARCHIP from December 18th and have to take our personal belongings before the set date. Now it is the time to have a wide variety of opportunities coming from diverse walks of life around.
HALLOWEEN 2017! Halloween can not be any more fun than it already is but ARCHIP added new creative twists to the celebration. Lots of students around, beer pong tournament, holly drinks, good music, photoshooting and costume contest were of a specific character. Among the amazing costumes, the first prize was given to the demon of the underworld demon, Iman AlJoaki, the second prize to the futuristic couple, Isaac M. Sabido and Kaltrine Kabashi and the third prize to the elf, Martyna. ARCHIPTalks still wishes you a very haunted Halloween today!
INSIDE THE GYOR WORKSHOP As part of the creative week in Hungary, four students from ARCHIP had a great chance to take part in a design workshop. TRANSITION was the topic that they had to work with for the next five days whereas every team was given a huge roll of rope and hundred euros for extra materials to come up with a creative idea of a pavillion. Even though it went through challenges, the results were both playful and progressive, and completely evocative of its design mentality. Elizaveta Karpacheva, one of the workshop participants stated: „You never let an opportunity go to waste. Memories, experience, connections – it is all about it. Without a move there is no innovation.“
