MAN OF STEEL

50 metre

steel displacement

What makes a Heesen so distinctive? Custom built in Holland, it is not just a matter of style but more importantly, the contemporary application of engineering: the architecture of performance. Our concept has evolved over 30 years and the experience we have accrued is unlike that of any other yacht builder in the world. Building in steel to enormously demanding tolerances, the Heesen hull-form is unique – quite simply no other ship shape so optimises the way a yacht moves through water. Meticulous attention to weight reduction results in increased levels of luxury. A Heesen is a Heesen because we are dedicated to one principle: the performance of luxury.

an of Steel was Heesen’s first 50 metre steel hull displacement yacht. The owner had previously built a smaller semi-displacement yacht at Heesen and the shipyard was a clear ďŹ rst choice when he required something larger. Bigger, better, more complex, the new yacht moved Heesen into 50 metre construction and we were determined that our first yacht at this length would be something spectacular.

Heesen naval architecture has given the yacht a particularly distinctive profile. One of the most striking features is the bridge’s reverse windshield. This not only increases visibility in wet conditions but gives the yacht a sleek, streamlined shape. The specially-designed bulbous bow creates an anti-wave for a smoother path through the water. This results in a reduction in the power required to reach a top speed of 14,5 knots. Less power requires less fuel.

our distinct deck areas provide huge amounts of outside space. On the sun deck an eight-person Jacuzzi is faced by a vast quadruple sunbed, while the entire dining and bar area is shaded by the radar arch, with a large, opening sunroof providing natural light. An additional Jacuzzi is situated on the private owner’s deck.

Using the foredeck for leisure, rather than just as a technical area, created 36 square metres of additional guest space.

The Art deco-styled main saloon is a vast open-plan entertaining area. Silk sofas, chaises and carpets contrast with dark walnut and macassar ebony throughout. The same colour scheme extends across the whole of the main deck, even into the day head. form and function have been seamlessly combined throughout the design, from leather oors in the gym to a beautiful glass artwork disguising a cupboard in the bulkhead.

lot of thought has gone into providing lighting that bridged the gap between practical necessity and artistic solution. individually controlled groups of lights are just part of a story that incorporates illuminated stone walkways of blue sublit river stones beneath glass panes, an onyx bar that seems to glow from within and a custom crafted Murano glass mural beautifully backlit behind the dining room table.

nusually, the upper deck master suite and all of its fittings are circular. Certainly a challenge, even for the master craftsmen at Heesen. One particularly impressive feature is the king-sized bed mounted on a rotating plinth, enabling it to face either the 50 inch television, or enjoy 180째 views through the sliding glass doors that lead onto the private aft sundeck and waterfall Jacuzzi.

he full-beam vip cabin is positioned forward on the main deck. Huge windows provide panoramic views and bathe the room in natural light. not enough of a horizon? enjoy 270° views from a hull-side terrace. Built with specially strengthened glass, this panel acts as a window when upright and a full-width balcony with a stunning glass oor when unfolded.

The lower deck on Man of Steel was conceived as an area for children. Three cabins have been individually designed in bright colours and bold patterns to reect the individual personalities of dierent members of the family. pop Art was a huge influence. The fourth cabin has been transformed into a brightly coloured, comfortable and casual family room with a selection of small and large televisions screens and computer game stations built into the bulkhead.

The huge Bisazza tile mural in the family room was designed in the style of an artist collected by the owner. Sent to the shipyard in pieces, the delicate artwork was assembled on site – with the precision and attention to detail that Heesen is known for.

eesen believes that the quality of the crew areas is directly related to the performance of the crew. The wheelhouse is handsomely furnished to create an efficient working environment for the captain. Throughout the yacht piping, welding, cabling and all of the mechanical elements were meticulously installed with any future maintenance requirements in mind. Heesen builds in forethought.

ven the areas that guests never see have been built to the highest standards. The engine room and galley are spacious and well-organised to ensure that the crew can work as eectively and comfortably as possible.
