The Modernism of Dorothy Knowles (1927 – 2023), informed by the leading artists and thinkers of her time, is ever present within her landscapes. She situated these ideas within her expansive expressions of Western Canada, focusing often on her immediate surroundings of Saskatchewan. Renowned for its rich, painterly light, its vastness and seeming simplicity, this region is an essential element of her highly personal engagements with perception. These nine works seek to explore the impressive breadth of styles and approaches she employed during her celebrated 70-year career.
