Bentley Vilnius building

Exceptional luxury, power and comfort – these are the aspects that unite Bentley car models and are reflected in the interior elements of „Bentley Vilnius“ building. GEZE company‘s transformable glass partition walls are a part of this design, helping to create the „Bentley Vilnius“ expositions full of light, modernism and elegance, so that the visitors could feel exclusive - just like driving a Bentley car.

GEZE MSW Sliding Wall System

Spacious and modern design with transformable glass partition walls The representative office of the legendary British “Bentley“ cars in Lithuania is located in the modern business complex “Quadrum“. The spacious area with different car models undoubtedly impress customers, while on the other hand it also raises challenges for the designers to plan the interior solutions and space sharing. One of these challenges was the separation of showrooms for “Bentley“ and “Maserati“ cars. Ways were sought to maintain the commonality of the exhibition, while creating separate spaces that do not compromise the dynamics offered by the large open hall. GEZE offered this exact solution using their transformable glass partition. The purpose of the GEZE MSW transformable partition walls used in the “Bentley Vilnius“ showroom is to temporarily separate the indoor spaces. That way one large open space is divided into several smaller spaces where different exhibitions can take place. The modular structure of the partitions allows to adapt them to the functional requirements of the project.“The main advantage of the MSW system is that the separable spaces can be formed flexibly, meaning not only in straight lines, but also various curved angles, forming corners, arcs, curves etc. When the partition is not needed, all its segments are easily pushed into the parking mechanism manually”- says GEZE representative Laimonas Lukoševičius. Two 7-meter-long GEZE MSW Classic line design partitions were installed in the “Bentley Vilnius“ building, each consisting of 7 sliding and 1 opening segments. ”White laminated glass was used for the segments, therefore the closed partition not only encloses the space, but also protects it from unwanted glances,” L. Lukoševičius adds. The GEZE MSW transformable partition system is widely used in various projects around the world. The most commonly used are the safety glass sheets, that can be

made transparent, frosted or painted, while all the segments can also be made of a variety of materials, including wood, metal, etc. This makes the MSW system universal and easily adaptable to customer needs.

Bentley representative Ieva Navikaitė says: The most exciting thing is the mobility of the product. Our exhibits are constantly changing, events take place four times a year, so it’s especially important that we have the ability to expand the space when needed. Also, when stacked on the side glass partition blends into our interior space completely and becomes invisible.

The EGER Department store

High standards of style and design are expected in Oslo’s exclusive EGER department store. Once Jømna Brug had designed an attractive new door for the arched portal, the challenge was to find an automatic door system that was up to the job. They contacted GEZE and, despite the time pressures of the project, the arched swing doors now open up as soon as a customer approaches the entrance.

GEZE Powerturn IS

No compromising on quality With an extensive portfolio of properties in the shopping area, housing a wide range of high-end brands, the Promenaden Management aims to create the most exciting retail experience in Norway. Nina Buzzi, who is responsible for the EGER department store, explains that the entrance was particularly important to them when they launched the project to upgrade the entire building. They were keen to replace the modern sliding doors with a classic door in the style of the original architecture, creating an exclusive look in keeping with both the product lines inside and the newly renovated façade. “Digital screens had previously been added to the entrance and they took up a lot of space. We chose to remove the features that made the entrance feel smal ler and instead take inspiration from the original form of the building. We are proud of the new entrance and feel that it has given a lift to the façade and indeed the whole area,” she explains.

Traditional craftsmanship and first class functionality in one Jømna Brug produces specialist doors in unique designs, for example where there are requirements from the local authorities or the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage to preserve the original appearance. Vidar Brænden at Jømna Brug was challenged to find someone who could deliver a solution that met all the aesthetic and practical criteria. He was looking for a combination of traditional craftsmanship and first class functionality, but there was also another major issue for everyone involved – an extremely tight deadline. Alongside the shortage of time, another challenge lay in combining the old solutions with modern demands for comfort and performance, while still taking account of the aesthetics. But none of this fazed GEZE, who accepted the challenge and threw themselves into the

planning process, working closely with Jømna Brug and the others involved. To have a chance of being ready in time, all the subcontractors needed to engage with the project, take responsibility and work in parallel. While we were producing the doors, others were working on the window frames, glass and threshold.

Vidar Brænden has the following to say about the collaboration, delivery and result: “GEZE’s involvement from an early stage was crucial for the outcome, and they are now our first choice as suppliers.”

Mall of Scandinavia

When the Mall of Scandinavia opened in Solna, Sweden in November 2015, it could pride itself on being the largest shopping mall in the Nordic Region. It has 224 stores and 20 restaurants across three floors, with an area of more than 100,000 m2 and the largest cinema complex in the Nordic Region.

GEZE ECdrive

150 glass door solutions from GEZE in Scandinavia’s largest shopping center The suppliers for the construction work were told that they had to contribute to a design that reflected sober elegance and a focus on sustainability, which resulted in the mall receiving the first environmental classification in Sweden in accordance with the BREEAM system for shopping malls.

GEZE is extremely responsible, as well as being helpful and solution-driven. GEZE was also present for the construction phase, making sure that everything was right. They are very knowledgeable, concludes Diana Jurukov.

GEZE Sweden supplies a large range of door solutions and has delivered door automatics for no less than 150 doors for this project.

Stylish entrances to the cinema complex The icing on the cake for GEZE is the two door sections that lead into the 11 cinemas and the VIP restaurant in Filmstaden Scandinavia on level 2. The entrance sections with automatic sliding doors supplied by GEZE and AB Fasadglas bear the round logo of SF-film in screen print, filling the entire door. “This is a complicated entrance”, says Fasadglas’ Project Manager Diana Jurukov.“The automatic doors are connected to each other and to the film projectors, so that when they open, they send a signal to the projectors that they can start. Nothing can go wrong with the locks and the automatic door systems as this would stop the film projectors.”

Copenhagen Markets

The new horticultural market in Høje Taastrup, called Copenhagen Markets, opened in April 2016. This is where fruit, vegetables, flowers and related products are distributed and traded wholesale to retailers in Denmark and southern Sweden. It is the largest and most modern distribution centre and wholesale marketplace in the Nordic region, with a total of 67,000 m² of warehouse space in an area of 220,000 m².

GEZE Powerturn F

Attractive entrance areas for refrigerated rooms with glass façades In the large warehouses of the new horticultural market in Høje Taastrup, the stands of four of the major flower wholesalers are made up of large refrigerated rooms with automatic glass sliding doors and glass walls. Keeping a low temperature in the rooms means that the flowers can stay fresh for longer, and that is key for the business.

“GEZE’s products have no problem operating in a cold environment. It generally offers more opportunities to create aesthetically pleasing solutions,” says Poul Torndahl, Sales Engineer at GEZE Denmark. He often finds that architects have reservations about the visibility of large door drives in attractive entrance ways.

A refrigeration installation company set up the cooling system, while GEZE has been responsible for creating entrances with large automatic sliding glass doors. Each refrigerated room is about 120 m² in size, and each has two entrances. It has been essential to the project to ensure that staff can access the rooms without allowing too much cold air to escape. It has proved to be both an aesthetically pleasing and a well-functioning solution. GEZE’s automatic sliding-door solution is mounted on the inside of the wall of the refrigerated room, placed almostly visuably hidden in the entrance. It only took GEZE’s technicians a couple of days to build the glass walls and install the glass sliding doors for each room. The walls are built of sections that are fitted with specially adapted glass. GEZE’s own door profiles and sliding-door systems were used. This sliding-door automation solution, hidden on the back of a glass wall or in a refrigerated room, is also suitable for other types of commercial properties, such as hotels, food production premises and warehouses, where a design-neutral solution with the equipment hidden is desirable.

Østbanehallen

The stores line at Østbanehallen food court, also known just as Ø, at Oslo Central Station. The staff boast about how quick and easy it is to open up the entire front of the store. The glass panels are heavy, but no effort is required to slide several metres of storefront to the side at opening time. With their streamlined design, the doors from GEZE’s MSW system form part of the decor and the store profile.

GEZE MSW Sliding Wall System

Functional design in a modern retail environment Oslo’s Østbanen rail line opened in 1854. Having undergone many changes over the years, the rail station’s large hall has once again been renovated. Now it reflects the modern surroundings of Bjørvika, Oslo’s new commercial centre. All the stores in the hall have a long glass façade with a functional sliding glass wall that opens up the full width of the store. As many as 12 glass panels slip easily behind each other when the store opens up in the morning.

“The glass panels can be easily moved to the side, like at Ø, or operate as a single or double door, combined with standard or floormounted door closers if required. The system is suitable for both 10 and 12 mm toughened safety glass and toughened laminated glass up to 12.76 mm, and can be combined with GEZE’s unique IGG insulation glass system,” adds Hallvard Banken, Country Manager of GEZE Norway. He emphasises that design, flexibility and functionality are what set the MSW manual sliding wall systems apart.

Design, flexibility and functionality The aim of the new store concept is to encourage people to spend more time in the hall, and that makes the interior design critical. The MSW façade system, with its wide glass panels, delivers a light, airy and elegant look. Mellbye Arkitektur Interiør is behind the interior design and AF Bygg Oslo was the main contractor, while Sagstuen delivered the doors from GEZE. Housing a total of 15 restaurants and stores, the hall has a high ceiling that creates a sense of being both inside and out door.

Planning and installation As a subcontractor, Sagstuen supplied not just the glass panels but also the glass ceiling that floats gently above the storefronts. Project manager Håkon Lysen from Sagstuen says that GEZE is now their first choice, largely because of how well the process ran from start to finish. “It’s important to us that previous experiences have been good. We know that GEZE has a firm grip on both project planning and installation. They know their products inside out and all their suggestions and solutions are well thought through,” states Lysen.

The Åhléns Building

At the intersection of Kungsängsgatan and Drottninggatan, the square Stora Torget has been at the heart of Uppsala’s commercial centre for centuries. In 2014, a complete redesign of the Åhléns building was initiated. Today only its concrete skeleton remains, now extended and incorporated behind a long glass façade with a soft, undulating character, enclosing 11,500 m² of retail and office space.

GEZE Slimdrive SC

Unique GEZE doors in a remarkable development on Stora Torget in Uppsala The controversial Åhléns building, with its patterned façade resembling a doily, was built in the 1960s. The softly undulating nature of the façade was crucial in determining the selection of the doors. The three main entrances to the department store are concave and mounted into the façade, and GEZE’s Slimdrive SC semicircular sliding doors perfectly match the architect’s vision.

“GEZE was the only manufacturer that could supply curved sliding doors in the design we wanted,” reports Mårten Nettelbladt of Tham & Videgård in Stockholm, the architectural firm that designed the entire redevelopment of Lejonet.

The same model also suits the convex entrances in two of the building’s rounded corners.

GEZE: The only supplier that could meet the architect’s wishes GEZE has also supplied the four other doors in the façade, of which two are the GEZE IGG, which fulfils the architect’s vision of the greatest possible glass surface without visible interruptions from frames, hinges, locks, etc. Three GEZE glass doors inside the building’s office area complement the external doors. All the doors were custom-made at GEZE’s German factory and are uniquely designed. This required technical precision during the design phase as well as during manufacturing and installation.

Expert collaboration GEZE was responsible for the design and installation of the doors. GEZE’s involvement in the Lejonet development is now continuing with a five-year service agreement that is included in turnkey contractor Arcona’s fiveyear contract with the property owner AxFast, explains Magnus Gupefjäll, who is responsible for all of GEZE’s work in the redevelopment of the building.

Sixty new grocery, interior design and fashion shops, as well as restaurants, cafés and recreational areas all gathered under one roof. KRONEN in Vanløse breaks new ground with its open, bright and Nordic style architecture.

GEZE Powerturn F

GEZE takes the lead GEZE has supplied the five interior and exterior sliding doors for the glazing on the shopping centre’s ground and first floors. The design and quality standards were stringent and were required to match the sleek and stylish look. The center has two large glass façades reaching twelve metres in height, where the sliding glass doors had to fit without any visible projections or supporting elements.

We have put great emphasis on creating a living organism that can thrive around the clock. The center is very welcoming with its bright surfaces, abundance of light sources and multiple entrance areas. These entrances open up making the shopping center feel like a small town in the city, says Marianne Dampe Raun, architect MAA (Danish Association of Architects) at H+ARKITEKTER in Denmark.

“The simple style is delivered in full. GEZE has developed an integrated full glass system that provides a ‘structural glazing’ experience, i.e. an exclusively glass façade from top to bottom. GEZE has succeeded in incorporating the expression we were looking for into the door solutions and with the functionality we wanted. Working with GEZE has been seamless, and we are among the first in Denmark to install this glass system. We drew inspiration from London, where GEZE has implemented the same solution in a railway station building,” says Marianne Dampe Raun, architect MAA (Danish Association of Architects) at H+ARKITEKTER in Denmark. In addition to the five sliding door sections, GEZE has delivered sliding door automation for three heavy-duty fire doors in the basement, as well as automatic door openers for four hinged double doors for goods reception and dispatch.

Elgiganten

Thanks to annual inspections and ongoing servicing on all automatic doors and entrances in the 29 stores, Elgiganten has no costly shutdowns.

GEZE ECdrive

Elgiganten has a nationwide cooperation agreement with GEZE, which provides annual inspections and ongoing servicing on all automatic doors and entrances in the chain’s 29 Danish stores. GEZE also supplies ready-to-use total solutions, such as new porches, when the electrical retailer needs to renovate or build new stores, as the latest project in Næstved demonstrates.

“We understand each other, and we’ve found a good way to work cooperate,” says Thomas Bredbjerg Nielsen.“GEZE asks me whenever there is a cost involved, and that’s very important in our business. It works really well and efficiently.”

Thomas Bredbjerg Nielsen, who is responsible for the operation of Elgiganten’s buildings and for new stores and renovations, reports: “I have a good working relationship with GEZE. If there is a problem with an entrance door, they come quickly. And that’s important, because it costs us a lot of money if we have to stay closed.”.

A good deal “I started working with GEZE two years ago because they offered the best deal, and because one of my colleagues had heard good things about the company,” recounts Nielsen. The collaboration started with repairs and servicing, but now GEZE is also involved in setting up new stores and working on renovations. GEZE can thus provide a total solution for a porch, including dismantling the old construction and installing the new one, as long as they are provided with a sketch. New solutions for Elgiganten are based on GEZE’s own products, which are known for their wide range and high quality. However, GEZE also holds stocks of the most commonly needed spare parts for other manufacturers’ solutions, and can therefore provide rapid troubleshooting and repairs for all systems. By means of subcontractors, GEZE also maintains doors, entrances and hydraulic loading ramps in the warehouse area, and can also replace windows. No matter what the problem is, Thomas from Elgiganten calls his regular contact person at GEZE for quick support.

Fast and good service During the annual service visits, checks are made to ensure that the mechanical parts and switches are working on all the various types of doors, entrances and hydraulic loading ramps to minimise the risk of downtime.

Kvæsthusmolen

Aesthetics and intelligence working in perfect harmony in state-of-the-art car park facility. GEZE Denmark has designed and delivered intelligent ventilation automation for Jeudan’s underground car park facility at Kvaesthusmolen in central Copenhagen. The ventilation automation guarantees the supply of replacement air in connection with general ventilation, as well as in case of fire and smoke extraction.

GEZE RWA K600 T

Intelligent bespoke solutions Copenhagen’s old Kvaesthusmole, which was once a port of anchorage for passenger ships, and before that the site of a hospital for wounded marines, has been renovated and transformed into a new, open urban space known as Ofelia Plads. Under the pier lies an underground car park facility which conceals up to 500 cars from the cityscape in the heart of Copenhagen. GEZE Denmark has delivered two specially developed solutions for the car park facility. One consists of window drives for the rust-red colored buildings which are situated on top of the car park facility. The slim black window drives are mounted vertically to ensure correct opening in relation to the geometric area. The solution has been designed in cooperation with GEZE’s product managers at the head quarter in Leonberg, Germany. The second solution features a specially designed entrance section with a covering and six hinged double glazed doors. The glazed doors screen the entrance to the escalator from rain and snow, and open automatically in the event of fire and smoke. The generously sized door section is capable of quickly supplying sufficient quantities of replacement air all the way down to the lower floor. “The six double doors open just a few seconds after a fire or smoke alarm sounds, and remain open until the fire alarm has been manually reset. An interactive process between the door automation and the built-in turbines on the lower floors ensures that any smoke is quickly dissipated,” says Martin Steen, project manager at Jeudan.

Meeting the high standards set by the showpiece project GEZE was awarded the project in collaboration with Lundgaard and Tranberg Arkitekter. After just a few meetings Martin Steen was convinced that GEZE’s ventilation solutions would meet the high standards set for safety and aesthetic detail in the car park facility.

GEZE has provided extremely qualified advice and has been quick to develop solutions featuring ventilation automation that match the design and colour of the building. In addition, the solutions meet the stringent safety requirements and standards that are set for smoke and fire ventilation in a new construction in every way. GEZE has contributed to ensuring optimised processes and shown great flexibility in a project that has placed great demands on design and functionality, says Martin Steen
