I’ve had extensive exposure to French culture and Art Nouveau since I was a freshman in high school taking AP French, so I jumped at the opportunity to use that knowledge in my design work. As an avid manga reader and collector, I’ve also always wanted a reason to create my own manga or oneshot. For this oneshot, however, I wanted to honor Lautrec’s style of illustration and create an “Art Nouveau” manga. The figures are pulled directly from Lautrec’s posters, save for the final spread, but aspects of manga art are scattered throughout the piece through shading and texture. You also have to read from right to left (as you would with traditional manga). Lastly, there are bits of French in the manga.
