The WatchKeeper+ System Net-Logic is proud to be able to offer the world’s first Type Approved wireless BNWAS. WatchKeeper+ allows the ship operator to avoid extensive new cabling associated with traditional wired BNWAS by making use of a highly fault tolerant radio frequency mesh network controlling information flow around the vessel. Cabling is minimised and vessel disruption & downtime is drastically reduced.

What makes the system uniquely flexible is that it can also be combined with our WatchKeeper standard wired modules. We call this our “hybrid” or “WatchKeeper+” system. A hybrid system makes sense where it is relatively simple to run cables in certain areas of the vessel but not others. For longer cable runs, it is generally more cost effective to use the wireless modules while for shorter runs on the bridge (in a console, for example), it may make more sense to employ a standard wired module. The result is an approved BNWAS that allows complete system installation and operation within a matter of hours. No other system can offer this.

Compliance

WatchKeeper fully complies to IEC60945, IEC61162, IEC62288 And IEC62616 Performance Standard and is approved by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency [MCA]

What is BNWAS? A Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm system (BNWAS) is a mandated safety device that ensures the officer on watch is alert and competent to carry out their duties. The system is a timing device located in the wheelhouse or navigation position, at regular intervals the unit must be reset, if this procedure is not carried out an alert to ships staff in specific officer areas and crew is triggered after a period of 15 seconds via an audible alarm.

The Net Logic BNWAS complies fully with IEC62616 and carries approval from the MCA, CCA, RS and NK. All requirements given in IMO res A.694(17) and associated with IEC 60945 are fulfilled with the Net-Logic BNWAS system

Do I need it?

BNWAS is now required as part of SOLAS Chapter V

The IMO SOLAS regulation now requires the majority of sea going vessels to carry Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm Systems (BNWAS) as part of their safety systems. This includes vessels of 150GT, Commercial, Passenger and Yachts**. The MCA requires that all vessels over 150GT (including yachts complying with LY2 or CYC) must meet the mandatory SOLAS requirements for a vessel of that type. So starting 1st July 2012** most “in service vessels must comply.

Simple Cost Effective Installation The cost of the parts associated with any BNWAS system pales in comparison to the cost of work involved on-board to investigate, dismantle and rebuild the interior to install a new cabling infrastructure, this in itself becomes a medium sized project that needs to be managed and will require a fair amount of down time. The WatchKeeper+ system removes the majority of this additional expense and drastically reduces down time with the simplest survey and installation process currently available.
