Hello! My name is Martha. I’m eleven years old and I live in England. Today is Wednesday and I’m so happy because yesterday was Shrove Tuesday. It was the school Pancake Race. I love pancake races. It is usually in February or March. It is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, about five weeks before Easter. It is usually called Pancake Day because children and adults get together to make and eat pancakes. The race is a lot of fun. We carry a frying-pan and a pancake. Then we have to toss the pancake into the air and catch it again in the frying-pan. We can’t drop the pancake. Yesterday my team won the second place. tem yesterday – on race – corrida ash – cinza ar toss – atirar ao r mio) catch – apanha ida, jogo ou pré rr co a m (u r a h n win – ga

s n o i t c u r t s n I Game This activity is meant to be a pancake race and a reading task too. It can be done with the whole school. Here is how it goes: • Divide the class into teams (3/4 members). • In a large room or outside, on one side, there are tables with the texts for the teams (one per team). • On the other side of the room there are tables with frying-pans and pancakes and worksheets. Here is the starting point. • A member of each team has to run with the frying-pan, tossing the pancake (3 times), until he/she gets to the table with the text. • He/She has to read the text and return, as quickly as possible, and try to answer the true/false exercise. • Then another member does the same. • Each worksheet is then corrected. • The team with more correct answers wins.
