smart hub

secondary school critic: kazimirski V., gnezdilova O., kozlova y. fall 2013

The design rejects a traditional planning solution (of double loaded classroom block with a shared central corridor), in favor of a single loaded configuration to maximize natural light, entering each classroom on two sides. At the same time the big atrium separates an optimal front yard and playground. The design has created new opportunities for economic development and social integration by the provision of covered external space and activation of the school’s public domain and ground plane. This creates places with special atmospheres in between the regular and rational architecture with conventional geometries that respond to internal and external requirements. The project was designed with and optimal solar and heating control system to minimize the use of support systems. The comfort level is high enough to avoid having cooling or healing sustainers.

power in action

fitness centre critic: lopatyuk M. fall 2014

This building is more than a sport centre; it is an idea about social space and multi-functionality. It features an entry sequence whic creates a loose threshold between outside and inside worlds. There is a measure of both transparency and opacity provided by the facade cladding system. This system is comprised of a screen created from thousands of square openings which grow or shrin k depending on their location on the facade. These create an ebb and flow to the facade which exists as a sort of ‘energetic tranquility’.

hotel, archivision competition in collaboration with: levadna a., kovrigin o. fall 2014

At the beginning of the 4rd year I took part in "Archivision". It is an annual Ukrainian competition. Our team consisted with three persons so everyone could show their best. Organizers asked us to design a hotel, which should be built with small modules. Because this parts are relatively small, they can be made in a factory and transported directly to the hotel location as a pre-fabricated, ready-to-use product. We decided to take an octahedron and transform it so that the unit became more ergonomic and suitable for living. Because of the modular system of building, it is easier to react to the economic situation. The hotel can adapt to any landscape conditions.

We decided on the utilization of the Voronoi schematic design to separate the tree patterns into formally defined areas, which form a recognizable pattern to help with placement of the pods, corridors and the larger, circular constructions offering social interaction like eating and entertainment, reading rooms, galleries etc.

The final result of which can be seen in the sketch beside of the actual design as we imagine it with the connections and the spatial separation of the elements.

suspended pods

hotel, inspiration hotel competition in collaboration with: levadna a., kovrigin o. fall 2014

Suspended in a pine forest not only for privacy but also to lend a feeling of 'belonging' to the natural environment under the protection of the canopy of the trees. The peace and comfort offered by the light, filtering through the pines, will add an inspirational dimension to the rest experienced by our guests, who will have a feeling that they are in harmony with their surroundings. That the pods are floating motionless above the ground, imparts a sensation of lightness, of defying gravity, which lifts their spirits, too.

26 | 27

The pods are positioned with their spacious window areas looking out into the direction of the forest, away from the other elements of the hotel, offering a depth of perspective in the comforting, repetitive vertical pattern of the trees.giving a feeling of one-ness with nature and a sense of privacy in the apparent separation from the other the units, without being in total isolation. The corridors connect the pods in a criss-cross pattern, giving a web-like construction, further emphasizing the feeling of safety and closeness to the wonder of nature. The choice of the location in the forest is a natural one, offering protection and closeness to nature, the integration and shape of the structural elements will be designed to impact minimally on the environment and to offer a pleasing solution which is ecologically sound. The idea is simple: Minimal impact on the environment with the maximum use of the forest for structural integrity and definition of the elements and their positioning in nature.

As can be seen from the drawings, the shape of the pods are designed for maximal thermal efficiency and minimal wind and weather buffering and noise. The vanes on the topsides of the pods are placed so as to facilitate and direct the melting of the snow in winter, as well as, of course, breaking up the surface into simpler constructional and visual design elements.

rewheat

lamp

object design, professional work kar architects spring 2013

ReWheat is a based on origami principals project of lamp. Our aim was to create something really unusual by using minimum resources and human labor. The lampshade can be easily assembled, without any tools or glue, by simply folding one ready-cut sheet of polypropylene. As the result we receive self-supporting surface with the unique design. After lots of experiments we agreed that this product should be made from polypropylene with thickness 0.5- 0.8mm. Cutting implemented into the laser cutting system using dash line. Easily transformed sheet of polypropylene can assimilate loadings and presents modern impresive parametric design.

parametric light system

The design was inspired by natural form of wheat ear. The lamp is formed by plain lines but combines elegance and complicated forms. You can see different lighting effects on lampshade that emanates from folded parts. It’s a really interesting design that may be easily combined with any variety of interior decoration.
