SEASONAL HEALTH CHANGES (cont)
Do not work when unwell. It is asking for more serious illness to show-up later. Rest must not be underestimated as a healing power, just watch what children do when unwell – they go to sleep. Take fresh air daily and exercise every day, we are moving machines after all and there is plenty of evidence of the immune boosting effect of exercise. Finally, reduce or remove your consumption of processed carbohydrates. That is breads, pasta, cereal, cakes, fizzy drinks etc. They are vitality sapping and bring little nutritional value to us. Many are simply poison except it takes 30 or 40 years to really see the effects with heart disease and arthritis which will then be blamed on your age rather than your diet. I wish you all good health as the year progresses.

Flu Clinics
NHS flu vaccines are available for patients aged 50 and over and for those aged 6 months to 50 years who are in a clinical risk group. This includes those who have diabetes, are pregnant, have a long-term condition affecting the lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, brain or nervous system, the immune system or the spleen. NHS vaccines are also available for anyone who is the main carer of an older or disabled person whose welfare would be at risk if the Carer falls ill, those in longstay residential care homes, close contacts of immunocompromised individuals and frontline health and social care staff. Children aged two or three years on 31st August 2021 – so born between 1st September 2017 and 31st August 2019 - are also eligible for a free flu vaccine with us. All children will receive a nasal spray. All school aged children up to the age of 15 who do not have a long-term condition will be offered nasal flu vaccination via their school nurse. We are unable to offer vaccination via the surgery for this category. If you or your child are eligible for a flu vaccine, please contact the surgery to arrange an appointment. Once again there will be two different vaccines available. One for patients under the age of 65 (via Red Reception) and one for patients aged 65 and over (via Blue Reception). We will have specific clinics running throughout the Autumn/Winter months.
