CARTER’S CHARITY NEWS (cont)

to name but a few. Great for pupils to have a go at something they wouldn’t normally do! Plans are being made for classes to get a hands on experience in learning; trips to Hoghton Tower and Bolton Museum are already in the planning; pupils get so much from visiting places such as these enriching their learning of topics and have long lasting memories for years to come. We are always proud of how well behaved and polite our children are, they are fabulous ambassadors for our school. We are also excited to be part of Young Voices for their 25th Anniversary – Yrs 5 and 6 will be heading to Manchester Arena in February 2022. What a fantastic opportunity and memory to have to perform in such a large venue.

SEASONAL HEALTH CHANGES

Once again we have charged through the summer and a winter season approaches with all its sniffles and coughs. Sadly we have now been programmed to jump in fear at what not that long ago was deemed a normal event. A temperature is a protective mechanism as your body harnesses your immune system to heal you. A cough is more often than not your body cleansing you, removing dead cells from your own defences having killed an invader. A runny nose and streaming eyes are similar, a natural cleansing of your body but we are now told to live in fear of such things. To expect impending doom. These symptoms are common when the seasons change as your body prepares itself for the next phase of the year. Most disheartening to me is the unpleasant and deeply divisive idea that we must view our fellow humans as bringers of disease until proven otherwise. I find such an antihumanity and anti-community idea totally abhorrent. We find strength in being close to one another not pushing people away to arms length or more. I was speaking with a Doctor friend of mine recently who expressed his frustration at what a missed opportunity the last 18 months have been. If all the resources and time used to instil fear and isolation in us, both of which suppress our immune system leaving us more vulnerable to illness, had been used to promote good health what a difference we could have made to ourselves and our communities. With my cynical (I get more cynical with each year that passes these days) head on I suggested that a healthy population is not a profitable one for certain sectors. So once again I shall drop in my own nuggets of good health advice for what they are worth!

Please laugh and hug each other, these simple exchanges create a bond and without a doubt strengthen your immune system. To live in fear of hugging – what does that mean we have become? Now is the time to begin taking 5000iu of Vitamin D every day. Beta glucans are useful too. For children use the wonderful sambucol syrup. It is a natural immune booster and can be used daily, they also do an adult version too. Echinacea is also excellent at creating an efficient immune system. Some take it when symptoms start, others use it as a preventative and take it every day. If you get any symptoms of a cold or other such virus then take 1000mg of vitamin C every hour for a day or two. Use zinc and/ or quercetin too. But do reassure yourself, the symptoms of a cold are cleansing signs so rest, stay hydrated and allow your body to do its job. Do not work when unwell, this is not bravery, it is asking for more serious illness to show up later. Rest must not be underestimated as a healing power, just watch what children do when unwell – they go to sleep. Take fresh air daily and exercise every day, we are moving machines after all and there is plenty of evidence of the immune boosting effect of exercise. Finally, reduce or remove your consumption of processed carbohydrates. That is breads, pasta, cereal, cakes, biscuits, sugars, fizzy drinks et al. They are vitality sapping and bring little nutritional value to us. Many are quite simply food poison except it takes 30 or 40 years to really see the effects of the poisoning with heart disease and arthritis which will then be blamed on your age rather than your diet. I wish you all good health as the year progresses.
