At our last meeting a cheque was presented to the Royal Oak for £200 to help purchase a new defibrillator. £300 has been provided to the Baby Beat Appeal at Preston Hospital to assist in the monitoring of the development of babies in pregnancy and delivery. A sum of £200 has been given towards the substantial fundraising efforts of a local scout to enable him to go to Malawi joining to assist in the building a much needed education centre for the community of Mangani. The club have also agreed to give £300 towards the cost of the Christmas lunch organised by the Royal Voluntary Service. Club members also have agreed to provide a sum of £200 for providing Christmas gifts for distribution to Fylde Women’s Aid. Once again we have approached B and S supplies who have always been most generous in their support with providing cosmetics, toys etc. Fylde Women’s Aid has a continued need for new clothing items (babies, small children or ladies), new toys, new cosmetic or new toiletries. This appeal is ongoing and the collection point is at the Resources Centre (old Liberal Club on Bridge Street).

Our annual community bonfire and fireworks display went ahead. A large number people attended and enjoyed the spectacular display. This reflects both the success and popularity of this event. Our thanks go to all of the organisations who donated wood and to the mayor of Garstang and the youth mayor for their attendance to light the bonfire Our members supported the road closure

and traffic management to facilitate the local Remembrance Day Service arrangements on Sun 14th Nov. One of our longest serving members, Alan Townsend took part in the parade and laid a wreath on the club’s behalf. The club will be assisting in parking the cars of all entrants and officials at Myerscough College on Sun 5th Dec to allow their annual ten mile run to take place. On the same day a few members will be helping with the road closures for the annual Garstang Santa dash. Covid has meant that we have had to cancel the annual Christmas community lunch for vulnerable adults and their carers. However we will be arranging a Santa visit to local care homes on Sun 19th Dec which is something that we successfully did last year .

General

Our club continues to grow but if you are interested in joining then you are most welcome. Further information is available on the website. You can also speak to any member about what we do or come along to our regular meetings held on the third Tues of the month in the Royal Oak at 8.00pm.

Memory Café

This is organised separately by Lion, Sandra Perkins but with the full support of the club and with several other members acting as either trustees or helpers. I am pleased to report that this is running once again. This is for those experiencing dementia in any form and their carers with a wide variety of highly social and entertaining activities being provided. The group will return to having their regular meetings on the first Monday (2:00pm to 4:00pm ) and third Wednesday (10:00am to noon) of each month.
