4 The site is in the west part of the Westend, Munich and a passage-like block, where only people who know the area are passing by. According to this information, we wanted to keep and improve this atmosphere while creating a high-quality living space and a place of communication. With passages through our buildings we allowed a motion between west, east and nord, south, so beside being a meeting point, the site also allows to connect different blocks to ours. This is equally important, because a connection between blocks, improve the communication. Two buildings across from each other creates naturally a courtyard and meeting area in the middle. People sitting in the steps of the cafe are simultaneously interact with the resident on the terraces. The terraces create a massive open air space for meeting. But this meeting point is not planned specially or only for this function. It is not a forced situation for people to meet up only on the terraces, like common rooms etc. While serving the function of the vertical movement trough the building, they create semi-private open-air area: We tried to create floor plans of different sizes for families, students, singles or couples. In the east building the planed apartments are mezzanines, made for single people or couples, who will have their personal space in their own apartment, but still have the opportunity to communicate with their neighbours in the communal used rooms, which are located on every floor. On the other side, in our west building the apartments demonstrate a different kind of communal behaviour. One special feature is the folding translucent screens, that the inhabitants can open or close individually and build a new feeling of Mittendrin, by attach their own flat with the communal terrace and create a open-living situation.

„AT HOME IN THE CITY“ Chair of Urbanism and Housing Studio Krucker Bates 4. Semester/ Group project

1/200 Modell Pasing, München

8 Height level of our three building decreases from five to three and they all fit very well with the atmosphere. And on the other hand our block is in green area of Pasing, Munich , so we wanted to create a courtyard, in which staircase is located in according to connect three buildings and create an circulation zone, which allows the easy access from building to building with a nice view. Meanwhile we changed the form of square to increase green views of the apartments, which adds an interesting external impression. All of the buildings have two apartments in each floor. Apartment sizes are mixed in according to wide variety of family types . The main idea in the apartment is bringing living room and the kitchen together and creating a spacios room. Entry to the buildings is provided from the courtyard into the connection bridge, which has one staircase. It is an open space but can be partly closed in according to weather issues with timber battens and the elevators is in the building, which has 5 floors. As external expression of the building we combined brick facade and concrete flat slab, which surrounds the surface of the building in each floor horizantally. And we used timber sunshades, which are partly vertical partly horizontal . The building has a strong horizontal emphasis and vertical block 10 sunshades brings a contrast to the expression of the building and supports the interesting idea which we had in the form of the buildings. and on the other hand the use of brick with smooth colors also supports the atmospehere of the block .

VISITOR CENTER Individual project of a visitor center for Göbekli Tepe( „Potbelly Hill“) Göbeklitepe in Sanli Urfa, Turkey Summer 2015

12 The concept was born out of this question; What played an important role in the history of Göbeklitepe? And there are two major factors. The first oneis the religion system, which formed the social structure on the first hand and caused the need of a temple. And water. Not only was it used during the religious rituals at the temple, but it also had significant role in the first civilization in Mesapotamia. Still today people in Şanlı Urfa value water, as it is the source of life in the region. The design is a conceptural interpretation of water, which is historically in association with Şanlı Urfa and Göbeklitepe. However, not only historically but also metaphorically water is the answer of how a visitor center for an achaeological site should be. The architecst of the visitor centre of Stonehenge says: ‘’ If, once back at home, a visitor can remember their visit to the Stones but can’t remember the visitor centre they passed through on the way, we will be happy.’’ A visitor centre should be like water. Pure, oderless but also essential fort the site’s self being.

Mimicing water is really difficult , especially for a solid, massive and giant building. only placing water in the building would be such a kitsch ,so the building should act like a water to avoid it. İt should be moving and fluid. To provide this curtains are hanged in front of the each facades, creating a moving scene fort he visitors in the patio. Meanwhile curtains will be collecting sun power. Architect Sheila Kennedy has designed the Soft House, a structure that harvests eenergy through solarenergycollecting textiles hung in the home like curtains. These thin-film photovoltaic textiles can create close to 16,000 watt-hours of electicity, providing about half ofthe home’s power.

16 How the univeresity and city are connected? The theme grows out of this question. We are on the Sterre Campus of University of Ghent in Belgium and discover the potentials of the campus. Following problems came in view during the research phase; -No transformation or extension for the faculties -No attention to importance of Krigslaan (main street) into the campus -No relation between public space and faculties -New roads, paths were not fullfilling the needs of the students In order to relate public space and the faculty buildings, tunnels were created in the new faculty buildings, through which one can reach public space. These tunnels may be also used for meeting points for everyone. People enter to the campus and before they reach to public space they want ( kid park, exhibiton zone, leisure lawn, concert zone), they are interacted with campus buildings and with the students in these building tunnels.

Site plan of Sterre Campus Gent/ Belgium

As a reference I was inspired by the Genom Center of MIT, which has the similar strategy in their campus. Campus in interaction with public so people , who has nothing to the in the campus are going into the campus to see Genom activities. The Campus attracts people by showing their experiments. Although Campus Sterre is a big campus, it is lack of student activities, which make people go to the city center for any kind of activities. The strategy is densifying the campus while creating this missing zones for the public and the students and opening the campus to everyone.

„DOLL`S HOUSE“ „Master Studio of Dirk Somers“ Universität Gent Studio Dirk Somers / Johannes Robbrecht 5. Semester/ WS14/ Individual project

1/20 Model

The Studio was based on presenting 1/20 and 1/50 models each week. While designing the doll‘s house I was inspired by the old mansions in Istanbul, which reflect the domestic life and have elegant culture in itself. I integrated the most traditional character of the turkish domesticity ‚‘lace‘‘ in to the facade of the doll‘s house, which also provides the shadow plays.
