MEETING THE BODY
(The Clergy meets the body at the entrance of the Church) Priest:
With faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the body of our brother, SAMUEL UDUANGELE let us pray with confidence in God, the Giver of life, who has promised to raise the faithful to perfection in the company of the saints.
Silence may be kept, after which the Minister says: Heavenly Father, You have power over death and You have given us victory through the resurrection of Your Son Jesus Christ; may Your Holy Spirit remind us daily of our inheritance in Your Heavenly Kingdom, so that we may not be overcome by the world and miss our fellowship with You in Heaven, but keep our faith constant in Your Son, who is the resurrection and life, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen. Priest:
I have set God always before me; for He is my right hand, therefore I shall not fall.
People: Wherefore my heart was glad, and my soul rejoiced; my flesh also shall rest in hope. Priest:
You shall not leave my soul in hell: nor shall You allow Your holy one to see corruption.
People: You shall show me the path of life, in your presence is the fullness of joy: and at your right hand are pleasures for evermore. All:
Amen
(The body is taken to the choir steps during which time the following sentences will be read). 2.
SENTENCES
I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord, he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall be live; and whosoever lives, and believes in me shall never die. St. John 11: 25, 26
4
The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more, neither shall the sun light on them nor any heat. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord, and whether we die, we die unto the Lord, whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. Romans 14: 8. 9. Let not your hearts be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in me, in my Father's house are many mansions. I know that my Redeemer lives and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth, and though this body be destroyed, yet shall I see God, whom I shall see for myself and not as a stranger. Job 19: 25-27 For I am sure that neither death, nor life nor angels, nor principalities, or things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 38-39 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; even so says the Spirit, for they rest from their labours. Rev. 14: 13 We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we carry nothing out. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. I Timothy 6: 7; Job 1: 21 Blessed are those who mourn, God will comfort them. Matt. 5: 4

3. HYMN AMR 284: “TEN THOUSAND TIMES TEN THOUSAND (Tune: Alford) 1. Ten thousand times ten thousand, in sparkling raiment bright, the armies of the ransomed saints throng up the steeps of light: 'tis finished! all is finished, their fight with death and sin; fling open wide the golden gates, and let the victors in. 2. What rush of alleluias fills all the earth and sky, what ringing of a thousand harps bespeaks the triumph nigh! O day, for which creation and all its tribes were made! O joy, for all its former woes a thousand-fold repaid! 3. O then what raptured greetings on Canaan's happy shore, what knitting severed friendships up, where partings are no more! Then eyes with joy shall sparkle that brimmed with tears of late: orphans no longer fatherless, nor widows desolate.
6
4. Bring near thy great salvation, thou Lamb for sinners slain, fill up the roll of thine elect, then take thy power and reign: appear, Desire of Nations; thine exiles long for home; show in the heavens thy promised sign; thou Prince and Saviour, come. 4.
PSALM 90
1.
Lord you have been our refuge: from one generation to another
2.
Before the mountains were born or the earth and the world were brought to be: from eternity to eternity you are God.
3.
You turn man back into dust: saying 'Return to dust you sons of Adam'
4.
For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday passing: or like one watch of the night.
5.
You cut them short like a dream: like the fresh grass of the morning
6.
In the morning it is green and flourishes: at evening it is withered and dried up
7.
And we are consumed by your anger: because of your indignation we cease to be.
8.
You have brought out iniquities before you: and our secret sins to the light of your countenance.
9.
Our days decline beneath your wrath: and our years pass away like a sigh.
10.
The days of our life are three score years and ten or if we have strength four score: the pride of our labours is but toil and sorrow for it passes quickly away and we are gone.
11.
Who can know the power of your wrath: who can know your indignation like those that fear you?
12.
Teach us so to number our days: that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.
13.
Relent O Lord how long will you be angry?: take pity on your servants.
14.
O satisfy us early with your mercy: that all our days we may rejoice and sing.
7
15.
Give us joy for all the days you have afflicted us for the years we have suffered adversity.
16.
Show your servants your work: and let their children see your glory.
17.
May the gracious favour of the Lord our God be upon us: prosper the work of our hands O prosper the work of our hands!
Gloria:
5.
PRAYERS
Priest: Thou, O God are praised in Zion, and unto thee shall the vow be performed in Jerusalem: Thou that hearest the prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come. KYRIE Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy Christ, have mercy Christ, have mercy Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy Priest: We come before your divine majesty, dear Father who is both Lord and Master of all. We thank you that for each of us you have set times and seasons, times to be born and times to report back to you. We thank you for our brother, SAMUEL UDUANGELE with whom we had the privilege of interacting on this earth for many decades. As you have recalled him, give us who remain, the grace to so order our lives that when it comes to our turn, you will receive us into your Kingdom. Thank you Father as we ask these through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HYMN AMR 285: “THERE IS A LAND OF PURE DELIGHT( Tune: Liyod)
1. There is a land of pure delight, where saints immortal reign; infinite day excludes the night, and pleasures banish pain. 2. There everlasting spring abides, and never-withering flowers; death, like a narrow sea, divides that heavenly land from ours 3. Sweet fields beyond the swelling flood stand dressed in living green; so to the Jews old Canaan stood, while Jordan rolled between 4. But timorous mortals start and shrink to cross the narrow sea, and linger shivering on the brink, and fear to launch away. 5. O could we make our doubts remove, those gloomy doubts that rise, and see the Canaan that we love with unbeclouded eyes; 6. could we but climb where Moses stood, and view the landscape o'er, not Jordan's stream, nor death's cold flood, should fright us from the shore.

LESSON 1 – 1ST ECCLESIASTES 3: 1- 14
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance; a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil – this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him. This is the word of the Lord Response: Thanks be to God

HYMN AMR 346: “FOREVER WITH THE LORD (Tune: Nearer Home)
1.
'For ever with the Lord! Amen; so let it be: Life from the dead is in that word, 'Tis immortality. Here in the body pent, Absent from him I roam, Yet nightly pitch my moving tent A day's march nearer home.
2.
A Father's house on high, Home of my soul, how near At times to faith's foreseeing eye Thy golden gates appear! Ah, then my spirit faints To reach the land I love, The bright inheritance of saints Jerusalem above.
3.
'For ever with the Lord!' Father, if 'tis thy will, The promise of that faithful word Even here to me fulfil. Be thou at my right hand, Then can I never fail; Uphold thou me, and I shall stand, Fight, and I must prevail.
11
4.
So when my latest breath Shall rend the veil in twain, By death I shall escape from death, And life eternal gain. Knowing as I am known, How shall I love that word, And oft repeat before the throne, 'For ever with the Lord!'
9.
LESSON 2 – 1 Thessalonians 4: 13- 18.
Our brothers, we want to know the truth about those who have died, so that you will not be sad, as those who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in Him. What we are teaching you now is the Lord's teaching; we who are alive on the day the Lord comes will not go ahead of those who have died. There will be the shout of command, the archangels voice, the sound of God's trumpet, and the Lord himself will come down from heaven. Those who will have died believing in Christ will rise to life first; Then we who are living at that time will be gathered up along with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. So then encourage one another with these words. This is the word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God

1.
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Chorus This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Saviour all the day long. 2.
Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight; Angels, descending, bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. Chorus

PRAYERS
Minister:
Let us pray. Lord, have mercy upon us.
All:
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Minister:
Lord have mercy upon us.
All:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth, as in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen
Minister:
Merciful Father and Lord of all life, we praise you that all people are made in your image and reflect your truth and light. We thank you for the life of your son, SAMUEL UDUANGELE for the love and mercy he received from you and showed among us. Above all we rejoice at your gracious promise to all your servants, living and departed: that we shall rise again at the coming of Christ. And we ask that in due time, we may share with our brother that clearer vision, when we shall see your face in the name of Christ our Lord. Amen O God, the maker and redeemer of all mankind, grant us, with your servant, SAMUEL UDUANGELE and all the faithful departed, the sure benefit of your Son's saving passion and glorious resurrection; that in the last day, when you gather all things in Christ, we may with them enjoy the fullness of your promises, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Almighty God, Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort; deal graciously, we pray, with those who mourn, that casting all their cares on you, they may know the consolation of your love, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
15
O Lord, be merciful to all travellers especially those who have travelled from far and near places to commiserate with the bereaved, and grant them a safe return, bless, guide and defend them, protect them from perils and dangers of the road, prosper them in their course, that they, beholding your mercy, and praising you for your goodness here may the more be quickened with a desire for the full enjoyment of their privileges as fellow-citizens with the saints in your heavenly household, though Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. 14.
COMMENDATION SAMUEL UDUANGELE, go forth upon your journey from this world. In the name of God the Father Almighty who created you; In the name of Jesus Christ who suffered for you. In the name of the Holy Spirit who sanctified you, And may your rest be in peace and your dwelling in the paradise of the people of God. Amen.

SENTENCES
Man that is born of a woman has but a short time to live and is full of misery. He comes up and is cut down like a flower, he flees as it were a shadow, and never continues in one stay. In the midst of life we are in death, of whom may we seek for succour, but of you O Lord? Yet, O Lord, God most holy, O Lord most mighty. O holy and most merciful Saviour, deliver us not into the bitter pains of eternal death. You know, Lord, the secrets of our hearts; close not your merciful ears to our prayer, but spare us, Lord most holy, O God most mighty, O holy and merciful Saviour, you most worthy Judge eternal, suffer us not at our last hour, for any pains of death, to fall from you. 3.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Minister:
All that the Father gives me shall come to me.
People:
And him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out.
Minister:
He that raised up Jesus from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies.
People:
By the Spirit that dwells in us.
Minister:
Wherefore my heart is glad and my spirit rejoices.
People:
My flesh also shall rest in hope.
Minister:
You shall show me the path of life in your presence is the fullness of joy.
People:
And at your right hand there are pleasures for ever more

4.

In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ; who will change our vile body that it may be like unto His glorious Body, according to the mighty working, whereby He is able to subdue all things to Himself. 5.

People:
And also with you.

HYMN AMR 27: “ABIDE WITH ME
1.
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide: The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide: When other helpers fail, and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2.
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see: O thou who changest not, abide with me.
3.
I need thy presence every passing hour; What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who like thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.
4.
I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me.
5.
Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies: Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; n life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
7.
BENEDICTION:
The God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in you that which is pleasing in His sight. And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be with you now and forever more. Amen.

HYMN AMR 745: “SLEEP ON, BELOVED, SLEEP AND TAKE THY REST” 1.
Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take thy rest; Lay down thy head upon thy Saviour's Breast; We love thee well, but JESUS loves thee best; Good night
2.
Calm is thy slumber as an infant's sleep; But thou shalt wake no more to toil and weep; Thine is a perfect rest, secure and deep: Good night
3.
Until the shadows from this earth are cast, Until He gathers in His sheaves at last Until the twilight gloom is over-passed, Good night
4.
Until the LORD's new glory floods the skies, Until the loved in JESUS shall arise And He shall come, but not in lowly guise, Good night!
5.
Until, made beautiful by Love Divine, Thou in the likeness of thy LORD shalt shine, And He shall bring that golden crown of thine, Good night!
6.
Only “Good night! beloved, not “Farewell!” A little while and all His Saints shall dwell In hallowed union, indivisible: Good night!
7.
Until we meet again before His Throne, Clothed in the spotless robe He gives His own, Until we know even as we are known, Good night! Amen.

A MAN OF INESTIMABLE GRACE
With so much Love, Warmth and Kindness – Mrs. Amenevbe F. R. Ihase Daughter
My daddy had a pure heart and very gentle, never held any grudge in his heart; had so much inner beauty and genuine concern for everyone around him. His life was characterized by selfless sacrificial services; his home was always a heaven for many who needed succor because my father was quite hospitable. A gentle disposition and strength of character, very humble and quite appreciative of people .He always had the joy of rendering service everywhere just to make people comfortable. Your warmth and hearty smile anytime I came visiting you was always reassuring. Daddy, you lived a practical Christian life even before we grew as children through your unreserved display of love, kindness and patience; you taught me unconditional love, calmness, forgiveness, kindness, compassion and humility. Certainly! I know at the time you left was God's perfect time and you have been received by God Almighty. Rest in perfect peace daddy, till we meet again on the resurrection Morning.

We pray together both morning and night even the last day together 19th Feb 2014.We prayed together at 11am having read the usual psalms we read before prayers. You did not give any complaint neither did you show any sign that you will be leaving us so soon before I went to bed. The sadness still comes along once in awhile, but the joy in the memories is so dear that it gently pushes aside the sadness. With me always are the wonderful memories and the way he helped to shape my character and morals. On the days when I am really missing him, I find that it helps me a lot to write down my thoughts and feelings It was 4:23am, the darkest hour of the darkest night of our life, February 20th 2014. Our father whom we always looked up as the strongest and the wisest, our hero gasping for his next breath. The sound of his labored breathing gradually subsided and became quite. We have no words to express the moment. It was unbearable with the passage of time his wonderful character seems to evolve in our eyes, especially as a caring father sensitive even to the tiniest of our needs and desire. To the world he was more than just a sincere and honest person, the integration of straightforwardness with his well meaning personality earned him the utmost regards in society. His soft and consistent counseling filed with affection has touched us deeply, molding and shaping the developmental years of our life without curbing our inherent inclination. “Thanks for the care love you have bestowed, the understanding and support you have extended for whatever best we could achieve.” Daddy, the beautiful memories of you will always remain with us. Losing you has been extremely painful. Mummy has show a lot of composure and I pray to almighty to grant her strength to remain strong. Almost 44 years you two remained united through thick and thin and we never realized that we could lose you. The only comfort we get is that you are in the best hands and pray that God Almighty will grant your soul eternal peace. We miss you a lot.

Tributes Brother, I will forever miss you so much! You played your role as a responsible elder brother to all your brothers and sisters, you attached so much importance to our education, you made me to see the four walls of a class – room. One of my fondest memory of you and the most important thing I will always remember you for will be the time and extra time you took with me to check my school work and ask for date when there was omission of not writing date. In fact! You will be greatly missed. I wish there is a reincarnation; I would have loved you to be my elder of the same womb again. May you rest in the bosom of the Lord. Amen.

Tributes Death, Where is your Sting? It was in the early hours of the morning of the 20 February 2014 hearing the news of your death. It was like the fall of an IROKO tree. Firstly, there was confusion, Reflection and finally, acceptance. I accepted when I remembered what psalmist said “what man is he that lives and shall not see death (psalm 89 vs 48). That was my Father! That was my Father!! That was my Father!!! Were my Mother’s words in tears when I broke the news to her on that fateful day. She said and I quote “He was like a Father to me” He’s always happy to see me whenever I go visiting the family. He was a caring, loving and humble father in law, so much more than any daughter in law could ever hope for.
Grandpa, you are a man with Silver on his hair and Gold in the heart. Even though I and my sister never had the opportunity to meet with you face to face, we believe that you will always be with us in spirit and that gives us some comfort. You are the best granddad any one could ask for. We love you so much. Rest in perfect peace. – OHIMAI & JOANNE ASIKHIA.

Late Chief Asikhia was an easygoing man with a high sense of humour, well adapted and supportive. Little wonders that he found it less challenging coping with the demands of the different departments he went through while in the council. He was a hardworking officer with a strong passion for excellence, he ensured that he made his impact felt wherever he was to duty, and left a legacy of transparency, integrity and accountability.

He was a lover of all, a seasoned administrator who appreciated the relevance of cordial relationship among colleagues and superior officers alike; this he maintained until his death. He was always available to contribute his quota to the growth and development of the Council even as a Retiree. He was familiar with the Council’s tradition and principles and was always willing to impart such to his younger colleagues. He was fearless and courageous, the attributes which stood him out in his career in the Council. Late Chief Samuel Uduangele Asikhia was a Community developer. Though he lived his life in Lagos, he never failed to fulfill his social responsibilities in his place of birth, UkhuseOke, Ogbagun, Iuleha, Edo State where he was awarded a Chieftaincy title in recognition of his contributions to his community. Here lies a man of integrity, role model, a team player, an achiever, a motivator, a mentor, a shining example of a dedicated and committed officer, a worthy ambassador of the Council who left a remarkable legacy on sands of time. On behalf of Management and the entire staff of The West African Examinations Council, we commiserate with the wife, children and family of our departed former colleague, on the transition to glory of a loving, caring and dependable husband, father, grandfather, and a worthy and illustrious son.
