“ Every small detail that accumulates in a frame or space has its own significance and becomes substantial enough to affect the environment it is situated in. As of its presence, each minuscule design seed will eventually find its way into the habitat to anchor its influence.” Objective : Seeking an internship as a passionate design student, who is looking forward to challenging and practical work. I’m hoping to be of assistance and inspiration, as well as to improve my creative skills, knowledge, and exposure.

METANOIA

Reimagining Agraharam Houses of Puthen Street - Thiruvananathapuram, Kerala. Adapting the 300-year-old housing stock surrounding the Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple to suit the needs of the current generation and context as it evolves, while conserving the character and architectural notions of the building typology in the area, concurrently maintaining material sensitivity and identity . THE ALOIS RIEGL METHOD to arrive at the heritage values of the stuctures around the temple was incorporated as part of the study .

Adaptive Reuse

10 PRESENT SCENARIO Lack of awareness of the historic importance of the structures and the unique construction techniques has resulted in the use of incompatible modern building materials. The modern interventions follow an architectural trend that is alien to the heritage charm of the place. Owing to rich architectural and cultural values associated with the historic fort area, design that focuses on the structure’s timeless existence and how life evolved along these closely knit living quarters helps us understand the socio-cultural influence that has dominated this area for generations.

Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala has a layered history As a temple town with the famed Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple as its core. The various housing typologies have evolved over a while from the eighteenth to the twentieth century , and its design and position within the settlement was a reflection of the social norms and traditions of its inhabitants. The agraharam housing stock: The traditional agraharam housing linked with the fort area has a special significance in defining the architectural character of the historic settlement of Thiruvananthapuram. The plan is being repurposed to suit a contemporary home stay space and also can be adapted to suit any residential house. Location Map : Second Puthen Street, Manacaud, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

COCO B

The thought of fostering into the coffee society , perhaps just a little more than a cup every day , inspired and created the Coffee Consortium Brewery (CO CO B) The design focuses on accommodating a varied level of activities and user groups into smaller capsules along a street, that runs longitudinal to the site. The spatial planning integrates a hierarchy of various such capsules that range from closed formal to open informal seating, including multiple types of semi-open zones, all set to the east. Capsules house activities like a small business counter promoting indigenous coffee goods, spaces for kids, parents, couples, and a focused quiet corner with greens for freelancers.

The business hotel is designed to respond to the Embassy Teck Park’s setting and cater to its user group. The hotel features a business centre, interactive zones, event rooms, fine dining, and guest rooms. With the meticulous utilisation of sky decks, gardens, and outdoor lounges as an extension of the recreational areas, the hotel is aimed to provide an overall sense of having a transparent natural connect with the visual environment induced around it. As components traversing across the hotel, walkways and pods provide vistas for the guest rooms.

RESPENDENCE

The project was intended to familiarise ourselves to the rural reality , especially to the rural habitat, its status and multiple challenges of survival, character retention and development in the modern day context of changes in the structure of the economy and urbanization trends. The goal was to produce a design identifying, understanding, analysing, documenting and presenting the various elements of the social production process, through which over generations the rural habitat has been created and using them creatively in a design the process to give the rural settlements a modern idiom and form, while retaining its people/community context.

34 Sketches left : Depicting the socio production activities of the village and its scenario today The Village, once self sustainable suffered deprimental effects of modernity and lost its character as a result of indirect effects. The entire rural landscape declined considerably despite investment in infrastructure. Farming

Rich land lead to mining affecting the water table further eliminating the perennial source of water .

In the name of development, the mines and industries affected the village which led to their identity being lost, livelihoods being destroyed and their traditions being eroded. Old ways have come undone and their lifestyles have changed.

DE LTA C RE AT E D BY F E RT ILE LAN D

Since farming is the most essential form of production, the village’s crown has plummeted due to its incapacity to produce. This affected the development of all other social production factors, and neighboring communities relied on it as well. They do not use any mechanical tools and instead rely on traditional farming methods.
