United States : New York, September 11th, 10 years after Bertrand RIEGER / hemis.fr

10 years ! 10 years have already passed since the Twin Towers collapsed and everyone rememembers exactly where and when it happened. It was such a powerful shock that no New Yorker has forgotten the acrid smell of the cloud of dust that invaded the city ; everyone has lost someone dear to him, even if it was only a friend’s friend. However life has gone on even if no one has forgotten. On Ground Zero, two ponds mark the spot and the One World Trade Centre which is in the process of construction, known as Freedom Tower, will take their place in two or three years time. It will be even more beautiful and higher than the original, for the greatest pleasure of the thousands of lookers-on who continue to come to the spot in a mixture of curiosity and reverence. Two streets away, the project to build an Islamic Centre, Park 51, has been in the headlines for the past few months. In the meantime, further away in the Upper East Side, is the Islamic Cultural Center that remains the heart of the Muslim New York. Our photographer takes us to this huge city composed essentially of new items : when a district develops, it replaces another and old addresses are forgotten when new restaurants or bars are opened and take their place. Yesterday’s news is swept away by up to date events… A Feature from Bertrand RIEGER for Hemis Text on request
