Quote of the Week: — “Be the change you want to see in the world.” —Mahatma Ghandi Letters to the Editor

Hats Off to Sabrina Gardner!

In one of his many speeches, the great pacifist Mahatma Ghandi said: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” This week, predicating on Ghandi’s wisdom and consistent with our objective—highlighting the positive—we take our “hats off” to Sabrina Gardner for her initiative in living Ghandi’s recommendation to humanity. Sabrina is doing something about a problem rather than complaining about it, waiting for others to do it. Sabrina is a change agent. A case in point is that Ms. Gardner’s daughter, now in college, was diagnosed with a Type 1 Diabetes since infancy. Furthermore, Ms. Gardner admits that her mother and 12 other family members are living with diabetes. Determined to heighten the awareness and possibly a cure to this debilitating disease, Sabrina Gardner founded Diabetes Health & Wellness Academy of New York City in March 2012. She has been working since, partnering with schools and other organizations to bring awareness of the disease. On Friday, March 14, Sabrina will hold her first gala to raise much-needed funds to help her in her fight against the disease. The event will honor a few people, mainly health professionals with whom Sabrina consults regularly as she continues her push to heighten diabetes awareness in New York City. “As the parent of a child with diabetes, one of my greatest daily worries is whether she’ll survive outside of my direct care. We need a continuum of innovative health and educational services blended with support systems where students spend the vast majority of their day,” says Sabrina. To this end, we say “hooray” to Ms. Sabrina Gardner!

Looking for a relative Dear Editor: My name is Arne K. Larsen, living in Norway. I am retired, after many years working in a Company as a Manager in Communication and Public Affairs. For 11 years I have tried to locate a lost relative. Just a few days ago, I managed to obtain some information that related to Uniondale, New York On Internet I found your newspaper, I now have the audacity to approach you. The story that might emerge from my research related to my relative, could be a “human touch” one. It starts with a young woman, my aunt Gerda Larsen, leaving Norway in 1919, not knowing she was pregnant, arriving in New York and giving birth to a son. Gerda died shortly after giving birth, and my grandfather’s sister Josephine Lee, nee Larsen, adopted the baby. The last place I believe Josephine lived was somewhere in Uniondale in the late fifties. Josephine was born in Norway 30th December 1875, and was married to William H Lee. I presume they are both buried in the same grave/ place/cemetery. Is it possible to have someone from your staff help me? Would there be an obituary in your paper related to her death? Yours in anticipation Arne K. Larsen *********************** To the Editor, During the Super Bowl something extraordinary happen. No, not the rout of the Broncos by the Seahawks. We witnessed something far more rare -- an act of charity by a multi-billion dollar corporation. Bank of America partnered with the rock band U2 to raise BIG money for the Global Fund. BofA promised to donate $1 for every person who dowloaded U2's new track, 'Invisible' for free. In 36 hours, over 3 million people downloaded the track. (The song is no longer free but if you purchase it on iTunes, the proceeds will go to the Global Fund.)

With this money the Global Fund provides anti-retroviral drugs to those who would not otherwise be able to get them. And because they do so, we may see the first AIDS-free generation by 2015. That's right, no child born with AIDS by 2015, anywhere.

For those who ask why we should help others when we have problems here, you should know that thanks to effective programs like the Global Fund over 7.5 million people living in Africa today have access to lifesaving AIDS medications, up from a mere 50,000 in 2002.

If we keep it up, we can see the beginning of the end of AIDS. And that is thanks to all of us Americans who care, and believe it or not, to bipartisan members Congress who have continually done the right thing in this regard by funding life-saving programs like the Global Fund and PEPFAR. Just another reason that I'm proud of my extraordinary country. Sincerely, Lenore Pringle ONE member ————————————————————

Teens and Marijuana: Is it harmless? Q. Many of my high school students smoke marijuana. I keep telling them that they are damaging their brains but they don’t believe me. Some say they smoke along with their parents. Can you inform parents about the dangers of marijuana? A.

Yes, many teens and some parents believe marijuana is harmless or at least less dangerous than cocaine or heroin. They are so wrong! Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant. All forms of marijuana are mind-altering. In other words, they change how the brain works. They all contain THC (delta-9tetrahydrocannabinol), the main active chemical in marijuana. They also contain more than 400 other chemicals. Marijuana's effects on the user depend on the strength or potency of the THC it contains. The potency of marijuana has increased since the 1970s but has been about the same since the mid-1980s.

How many teens are using marijuana? Some people mistakenly believe that “everybody Is doing it” and use that as an excuse to start using marijuana themselves. Well, they need to check the facts, because that's just not true. According to NIDA's 2012 Monitoring the Future study, about 6.5 percent of 8th graders, 17.0 percent of 10th graders, and 22.9 percent of 12th graders had used marijuana in the month before the survey. In fact, marijuana use declined from the late 1990s through about 2007. Unfortunately, this trend appears to be reversing. Since 2007, annual, monthly, and daily marijuana use increased among 10th and 12th graders while daily use increased among 8th graders. In 2012, 6.5 percent of 12th graders reported using marijuana daily, compared to 5.1 percent in 2007. Teachers and parents can inform their teens that not everyone is doing marijuana! What are the effects of marijuana? According to a survey of adolescents, ages 12 to 17, taken by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, teens who admitted to using marijuana in the past year self-reported the following behaviors: * Teens who use marijuana weekly are 9 times more likely than non-users to experiment with illegal drugs or alcohol. * Adolescents who use marijuana weekly are 6 times more likely than non-users to run away from home. * Adolescents who use marijuana weekly are 5 times more likely than non-users to steal. * Adolescents who use marijuana weekly are nearly 4 times more likely than non-users to engage in violence. * Adolescents who use marijuana weekly are 3 times more likely to have thoughts about committing suicide.

* Adolescents who use marijuana are more prone than non-users to be involved in the destruction of property. * Adolescents who use marijuana are more prone than non-users to physically attack other teens. * Adolescents who use marijuana also reported more social withdrawal, physical complaints, anxiety and depression and attention problems. With all of these side effects, it is easily understandable that teens who smoke marijuana do not do well in school! Teens who use marijuana are more likely to engage in unplanned sex, also. Medically, THC is rapidly absorbed after smoking pot. Within minutes, THC and the other substances in marijuana smoke cause short-term medical effects. Signs of using marijuana include: • Rapid heart rate • Increased blood pressure • Increased rate of breathing • Red eyes • Dry mouth • Increased appetite, or "the munchies" • Slowed reaction time **These effects are reduced after three or four hours. However, marijuana hangs around in your system for as long as a month after smoking. The lingering effects mean you're impaired for several days to weeks after the high wears off. Psychological Effects of Marijuana According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the main effects of marijuana on mood vary and may include euphoria, calmness, anxiety, or paranoia. Getting high or "stoned" is the reason most pot smokers use marijuana. Other short-term psychological effects of pot include: Distorted sense of time • Paranoia • Magical or "random" thinking

What Are Parents To Do? 1. Parents of teens should be aware of the warning signs of teen drug use. 2. Parents are the biggest reason teens chose not to get involved with marijuana. They don’t want to lose their respect. 3. Parents should know the terms teens use to talk about marijuana. Parents should also know that 420 is a popular drug term for smoking marijuana. 4. Marijuana is the most widely used illegal drug among youth today according to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. 5. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, studies of high school students and their patterns of drug use show that very few young people use other drugs without first trying marijuana. 6. Teens who use drugs are five times more likely to have sex than teens who do not use drugs, according to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. 7. Poorer grades are linked to the use of marijuana. A teen with a "D" average is four times more likely to have used marijuana than a teen with an "A" average based on data from the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse. 8. A British study shows that using marijuana can in fact worsen depression and lead to more serious mental health disorders, such as schizophrenia, anxiety and even suicide. 9. According to a report from the NSDUH, first use of marijuana among recent new users was highest during June (11%) and July (11%) and lowest during November (7%) and December (6%). Warning Signs Include:

• • •

loss of interest in family activities disrespect for family rules withdrawal from responsibilities verbally or physically abusive

• • • • • • • •

sudden increase or decrease in appetite disappearance of valuable items or money not coming home on time not telling you where they are going constant excuses for behavior spending a lot of time in their rooms lies about activities finding the following: cigarette rolling papers, pipes, roach clips, small glass vials, plastic baggies, remnants of drugs (seeds, etc.)

Are Black Teens at a Higher Risk? No! In May, 2012, The Partnership at Drugfree.org and MetLife Foundation released results of a National Study and found that marijuana use – particularly heavy use – has increased significantly among U.S. high school students since 2008. According to the new data, half of Hispanic teens (50 percent) report that they have used marijuana in the past year (versus 40 percent for African Americans and 35 percent for Caucasians). This means Hispanic teens are nearly twice as likely (43 percent) as Caucasian teens to have smoked marijuana in the past year (50 percent vs. 35 percent) and 25 percent more likely than African-American teens. Duke Medicine News and Communications 2011 reports a new analysis of teenage drug abuse finds widespread problems among Whites, Native Americans, Hispanics, and youngsters of multiple races, with less severe abuse among Asian and African American teens. Beware of the Synthetic Marijuana, also. It’s just as dangerous! Some information gathered from http:// teens.drugabuse.gov/drug-facts/marijuana, Teenswithproblems.com, About.com, WebMD.com and http:// www.dukehealth.org/health_library/news ———Lisa-Anne Ray-Byers is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist who has worked in education for over two decades. Celebrity Interview . Book/Movie Reviews age. In some ways it did parallel the journey of to fill. I can only take that as a compliment. ultimate appreciation that we see in the movie Thanks, Bernadette. That gives me something of me towards my son and my son towards me. to live towards, because it’s a lot.

Kam Williams Forest Whitaker “The Butler” Interview with Kam Williams

KW: How did you prepare for the role of Cecil Gaines? Forest: I trained with a butler coach for quite some time. And I studied the history and, of course, tried to make that a part of my own emotional understanding of the time period and the presidency. In terms of the aging process, I particularly had to work on movement and mannerisms. I also tried to understand the dialect and speech patterns. And I worked on how I could communicate my thoughts more clearly without words. I wanted to fill myself up enough so that you would be able to feel my thoughts, even in scenes where I would say nothing.

Kam Williams: Hi Forest, I’m honored to have this opportunity. Forest Whitaker: Oh, no, it’s a pleasure just to talk to you, Kam. KW: What interested you in The Butler? Forest: It’s an amazing story. And the script was beautiful in the way it followed this man who served eight presidents and portrayed his love for his family, as well as the love between him and his son. So, I saw it as offering a great challenge and opportunity. And I thought that Lee [director Lee Daniels] would do a wonderful job with the script as a filmmaker, so that was an attraction as well. And I had wanted to work with Oprah, so all of that came together to afford me this tremendous opportunity. KW: Did the film’s father-son relationship resonate with you when you reflected upon your relationship with your own dad? Forest: Yes, it’s hard to always understand and appreciate your father when you’re coming up, especially since my dad had three jobs when we moved to L.A. So, he was always working. Plus, coming from the South, from Texas, he had a certain way of disciplining that made it hard for me to appreciate, at the time. You don’t fully appreciate the reasons why or the sacrifices that were being made until a later

KW: Editor/Legist Patricia Turnier says: You are a great director, in addition to of course being an excellent actor. Personally, I love biopics, like where you played Charlie Parker in Bird. Is there a story about an icon that you would like to direct and star in? Forest: Yes, there’s a film I’ve been developing about Louie Armstrong that I’d like to direct and star in. I wrote the script and really believe in it. I think it’s something I’ll probably do next year, although I haven’t made a final decision about whether I should direct it or not. It’s a really special story.

KW: The Gabby Douglas question: If you had to choose another profession, what would that be? Forest: I’d either be a natural healer or a teacher.

KW: The Judyth Piazza question: What key quality do you believe all successful people share? Forest: Passion! KW: Harriet also asks: With so many classic films being redone, is there a remake you'd like to star in? Forest: The Audrey Hepburn-Albert Finney film, Two for the Road.

KW: That hard work paid off. I cried about a half-dozen times during the film. Forest: It’s very moving because it deals with so many primal issues: loss, degradation, even joy. Lee painted a picture that allows you to get in touch with many different emotions. KW: True. Attorney Bernadette Beekman asks: What was it like acting opposite Oprah? Forest: Oprah just really committed completely to the movie. She was startling, at times, in how deeply she was into the authenticity of the scenes. For instance, there was a big emotional moment that wasn’t shown completely in the film where she screamed and fell to the ground, letting out a piercing wail that went through my bones. It had me trying to figure out how to comfort her, because it’s hard to find the proper emotion to respond to pain that overwhelms.

you choose? Forest: I’d be a spreader of love.

KW: The bookworm Troy Johnson question: What was the last book you read? Forest: Solutions Focus. http:// www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ ASIN/1904838065/ref=nosim/thslfofire-20

This Forest’s on Fire! Forest Whitaker is a distinguished artist and humanist. He is the founder of PeaceEarth Foundation, co-founder and chair of the International Institute for Peace, and the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation. A versatile talent, Forest is one of Hollywood’s most accomplished performers, receiving such prestigious honors as a Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in The Last King of Scotland, as well as a Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival for Bird. Over the past decade, he has dedicated most of his time to extensive humanitarian work, feeling compelled by his social awareness to seek ways of using the film medium as a means of raising peoples’ consciousness. To that end, he produced the awardwinning documentary Kassim the Dream, which tells the touching story of a Ugandan child soldier turned world champion boxer; Rising from Ashes, which profiles Rwandan genocide survivors’ attempt to qualify for the Olympics riding wooden bicycles; Serving Life, which focuses on hospice care for prisoners at Louisiana’s Angola Prison; and the Peabody Award-winning Brick City, which offers an unvarnished peek at inner-city life in Newark, New Jersey. Whitaker was the 2007 recipient of the Cinema for Peace Award, and he currently sits on the board of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. In addition, he serves as a Senior Research Scholar at Rutgers University, and as a Visiting Professor at Ringling College of Art and Design, too. Besides the aforementioned films, Forest’s impressive resume’ includes The Great Debaters, The Crying Game, Panic Room, Platoon, Ghost Dog, Mr. Holland’s Opus and Good Morning Vietnam. Here, he talks about his latest outing as the title character in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, a decades-spanning sage chronicling the life and career of an AfricanAmerican who served eight presidents in the White House.

Page 7

KW: What advice do you have for anyone who wants to follow in your footsteps? Forest: Always tell yourself that you want to continue to grow, and you’ll be more connected to growth. KW: Director Rel Dowdell, who has made two low-budget films, including Changing the Game last year, would like to know how he can pitch you about a project. Forest: I have my company, Significant Productions, in Los Angeles. And I also have a company called JuntoBox Films Select, a crowd-sourcing film site which we produce movies out of. We just finished one with a first -time filmmaker, called Sacrifice. And we’re about to do another one in a month or so. Rel can reach out to either one of those companies. KW: Is there any question no one ever asks you, that you wish someone would? Forest: [Chuckles] I can’t think of one.

KW: The Jamie Foxx question: If you only had 24 hours to live, how would you spend that time? Forest: With my family. KW: Thanks again for the time, Forest, and best of luck with The Butler, and I hope to talk to you about your upcoming independent project. Forest: Sure, Kam, and thanks again for supporting Rising from Ashes. KW: The Sanaa Lathan question: What excites you? Forest: Two things: The success of my children, and the work for social justice that I do with my foundation.

KW: When you look in the mirror, what do you see? KW: Leah Fletcher asks: How did it feel, when Forest: I see someone who is continuing to try to build his connection with the rest of the you were just breaking into the industry, to receive such a glowing acknowledgment from world. a seasoned and respected actor such as Sean KW: If you could have one wish instantly Connery for your work in The Crying Game? 5 Reasons to Go Green This month we will be celebrating the greenest of American holidays, St. Patrick’s Day! To get in the holiday spirit we will be all about GREEN...green vegetables that is. Need another reason to reach for your green produce? Check out these body boosts you get from adding in more dark leafy greens: Healthy Cells and Blood Leafy greens are an excellent source of the B -Vitamin, folate, necessary for growth of healthy cells and blood. Glowing Skin and Healthy Hair Everyone wants glowing, smooth skin and healthy hair and eating greens can help you achieve that. Vitamin C, an antioxidant found in dark leafy greens can help prevent free radical damage that could lead to wrinkles and fine lines. It also helps the body produce collagen, a protein which aids the growth of cells and blood vessels giving skin its firmness. Greens like spinach, Swiss chard, and collards, are an excellent source of vitamin A in the form of beta carotene. This antioxidant helps with the growth and repair of your cells. It can even help protect the body from sun damage! Better Vision Luetin and zeaxanthine are important antioxidants that protect the cells in our eyes from age related damage. Dark leafy greens are one of the best sources of these compounds. Strong Bones and Teeth Think the only way to keep your bones strong is by drinking dairy? Think again! Greens like collards, turnip greens, and spinach contain calcium, vitamin K, potassium, and magnesium; all nutrients needed to keep bones and teeth strong and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Fiber Up We all know we need to eat more fiber but do you know why? Fiber helps promote a healthy GI system and keeps things moving along, if you know what I mean! Fiber provides us with a fullness factor which can help maintain weight and it reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. It also works to control blood sugar and

3. Create a great communicator. Your successor needs top-of-the-line communication skills to influence clients, vendors, employees and others. If you don’t build this skill it’s like the “substitute-teacher” phenomenon: the kids will act up, not listen and accomplish little until either the sub builds confidence, or the “permanent teacher” — you — return to clean up the mess. at least, sell a stake to someone who might eventually buy you out. If you’re thinking about leaving your business behind, or stepping back to work on the strategic rather then tactical side, some careful planning up front can make it a smooth transition that ensures your company thrives after you’re gone. Here are five tips on how to make a graceful exit. 1. Work on a succession plan. What do you want to happen after you leave? Write up a plan that spells out your wishes. If you’re considering passing on or selling the business to a family member or employee, notify them of your intentions. Ensure that your plan answers questions about who will be in charge, how much of a stake they will acquire and at Jack Signorelli what cost. It should also offer a timeline for the transfer of power. 2. Groom a successor. The world of family business is full of sad stories about owners who suddenly decide to retire and drop the business into the lap of a brother or daughter with little training or notice. By Phil Andrews Financial management for AfricanAmericans must be centered around goals. What gets measured in life gets done. a goal is not a goal until it is set and a plan gets underway for its achievement. Time is one of our greatest allies along with faith in God. Now is the best time to start your financial goals. The first goal should be to become financially literate. Knowledge is power. The old saying reinforces this concept, “a fool and his money are soon parted.” The first ritual of wealth is to set a goal of pay yourself first, no matter how small the amount. Financial success is as much about discipline, character, and integrity as it is about large sums of money. In the financial world, small advantages have a way of adding up. How much value would you put on a sound financial education? In the book Rich Dad Poor Dad, it is taught that we much acquire education , experience, and then we will acquire excessive cash.

. Hempstead/Uniondale Times . www.hutimes.com

Each of us has different goals, and our financial plan should cater to those goals. We should develop a healthy passion for financial goal we set which should be reinforced by our daily actions. Tithing, saving, and investing can be a ritual in our lives. A sense of stewardship over our resources is the highest way of dealing our God-given blessings. Financial goal-setting requires that we give a good accounting of our cash flow. The age -old adage that “As a man thinketh so shall he be” all that he achieves or fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thinking. The cry of all humanity should be higher yet. How many individuals in our community know the power of compound interest, but does that number equate to that number that follow its principles? Financial goal setting requires that we develop a philosophy of success and achievement. A millionaire once said that “Everyday that I find a penny, it is one day that I do not have to work for it”. Do you value the pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars that flow through your hands? The rich gets richer because respect of the money attracts more money. If you need verification of this fact, just analyze the mentality of a spender verses an investor. The investor say don't spend your last dollar until you know where your next one is coming from, the spender spends everything and then looks around for money. The richest man in “Babylon goal” was to keep a part of all the money he made. Saving a part of all the money you make is said to be a secret because so few people follow its principles but profess to know its premise. Knowing and doing are opposite sides of the coin, but real financial power is gained through action. Remember it's not what you make, it's what you keep. It's not what you know, it's what you do. It is not what you are, it is what you become, what you become

will determine what you make. Winners are not born, they are made. The top 3% of all financially successful people are goal-setters. a financial plan and goal are the roadmap for an upwardly mobile African-American community. Remember, time is one of your greatest allies. A journey of a thousand mile begins with one step. May you reach all of your

Franchising—an expert advice by Neva Alexander Franchisor’s sell their businesses with the concept that you are in business for yourself but not by yourself. Sounds great right? Well I bought it. In 2005, I bought a decorating franchise. It was an exciting moment. I was my own boss at least that was what I believed. I found myself so frustrated. The franchisor required the franchisees to call in every week giving detail of their progress. They did not allow the franchisees to use inexpensive outside suppliers. I was forced to purchase goods even if it was not used at the time of purchase. It was required that $25,000 be made within the first three months of operation. This made me extremely stressed out by the franchisor. Many times, I felt as if I failed, I was incompetent. Efforts were made to promote my business and please the franchisor, but at the end of the day, they were not pleased. At one point, I tried to hire an independent contractor, but the franchisor informed me that I could not hire anyone. The reason they gave for their decision was that I only purchased one unit and I would be violating my contract with them. The franchisor decided to buy back my franchise. They informed me that this would be in my best interest since it was going to get more difficult for me. I sold my unit to the franchisor

at a loss. The non-competitive clause was enforced. I was back to square one with no idea what will be my next move. I wrote this article not to discourage you from buying a franchise but to give another prospective of what can happen. I have a friend that owns a Golden Crust franchise, and he is very happy with his decision. If you are going to purchase a franchises do your research diligently: •

• •

Speak with other franchisee (not the ones recommended by the franchisor) Request a copy of UFCO when you request information about the franchise. Hire an Attorney to review your documents. Call previous franchise owners; ask them why they no longer own the franchise. Franchises have rules make sure you can adhere to them.

If you have creative ideas that you want to implement, I suggest you go into your own business. If you want to use someone else’s model, then a franchise is for you.

It's Performance, Not Position that Counts'

The FBI had an opening for an assassin. After all the background checks, interviews, and testing were done, there were three finalists; two men and one woman. For the final test, the FBI agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. "We must know that you will follow your instructions no matter what the circumstances. Inside the room you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill her! The man said, "You can't be serious, I could never shoot my wife." The agent said, "Then you're not the right man for this job. Take your wife and go home." The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet about 5 minutes. The man came out with tears in his eyes, “I tried, but I can't kill my wife." The agent said, "You don I have what it takes. Take your wife and go home." Finally, it was the woman's turn. She was given the same instructions, to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few VI minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow. "This gun is loaded with blanks" she said. "I had to beat him to death with the chair."

A Priest dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him is a guy who's dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket and jeans. Saint Peter addresses him, "Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit you into the Kingdom of Heaven ?"The guy replies, "I'm Joe Cohen, taxi driver, from New York ." Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the taxi driver, "Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven ." Now it's the priest's turn. He stands erect and booms out, "I am the Right Reverend Joseph Snow, pastor of Saint Mary's for the last forty-three years." Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the priest, "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven." "Just a minute," says the priest. "That man was a taxi driver. Why does he get a silken robe and golden staff?" "Results," shrugged Saint Peter........... "While you preached, people slept. When he drove, people prayed."

Poetic Expression This is why I always say I love You.... In memory of all those who perished this morning; the passengers and the pilots on the United Air and AA flights, the workers in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and all the innocent bystanders Our prayers go out to the friends and families of the deceased. IF I KNEW If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep. If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise, I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day. If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute to stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming you would KNOW I do. If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day, Well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away. For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything just right. There will l always be another day to say "I love you," And certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do?" But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I'd like to say how much I love you and I hope we never forget. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight. So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today? For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day, That you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss and you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish. So hold your loved ones close today, and whisper in their ear, Tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear Take time to say "I'm sorry," "Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay." And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.
