The Student Life and Technology Center: Where Every Hendrix Odyssey Begins Hendrix students are eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Student Life and Technology Center (SLTC).

The $26 million facility is the largest capital project in the history of Hendrix. It is the final capital component in a $100 million comprehensive campaign A Commitment to National Leadership: The Hendrix Campaign. During this journey, Hendrix has raised $91 million and transformed the lives of students. The College has significantly increased student financial assistance; designed innovative academic, co-curricular, and student life programs; and developed critical campus facilities to support those programs.

THE FEATURES Student Life The Student Life and Technology Center will be the center of life on campus, providing programs that enhance the experience of every student at Hendrix. The 78,000-square-foot SLTC will feature a magnificent main dining hall with a beautiful two-story cathedral ceiling. There will also be a more casual cafĂŠ and performance space for student events and national touring acts, office and work space for student organizations (including Student Senate, Social Committee, and many others) and student media (including KHDX, The Profile, and Troubadour).

The Home of Your Hendrix Odyssey Offices for Your Hendrix Odyssey: Engaging in Active Learning will be located inside the Student Life and Technology Center. Students will enjoy convenient

access to staff members who coordinate internships, international study, and volunteer service projects.

A new resource library will enable students to investigate internships, study abroad programs, and other engaged learning opportunities. Because students must complete at least three Odyssey experiences, the SLTC will support the academic and personal journey of every Hendrix student. From the Arkansas Delta to Africa, every Hendrix Odyssey will begin in the SLTC.

Educational Technology Center One of the SLTC’s most innovative features will be an Educational Technology Center that will weave state-of-the-art teaching, learning, and social technology into the fabric of student life. Students can work collaboratively with their classmates on course assignments using the technology located throughout this facility, while faculty members can incorporate the latest technology into their lectures and assignments. Students and faculty will be able to prepare multimedia presentations of their original research for academic conferences and professional meetings. The Educational Technology Center will better enable Hendrix students and faculty members to connect with their peers around the world, including students at Heilongjiang University, our sister institution in Harbin, China, for classes and other projects.

Additional programs Offices for the Chaplain and Religious Life Programs, the Crain-Maling Center of Jewish Culture and the Miller Center for Vocation, Ethics, and Calling will be located inside the SLTC. The Office of the Chaplain,

The main dining hall will accommodate the growing Hendrix community and continue the Hendrix tradition of students, faculty, alumni and others dining together.

along with the Religious Life Council, provides opportunities for spiritual growth, theological exploration, moral development, and the growing expression of one’s religious faith through weekly activities such as chapel and communion service, Bible studies, retreats, and lectures. The Crain-Maling Center of Jewish Culture serves as a resource for students, faculty and members of the general public, Jews and non-Jews alike, who wish to engage in the study, discussion or teaching of Jewish culture. The Miller Center assists students through challenging life and career decisions and sponsors service-based internships, personal growth retreats, mission trips and other programs that offer students an academic exploration of faith and vocation.

With the assistance of a challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hendrix has crossed the $20 million mark in gifts and pledges to support the construction of the Student Life and Technology Center.

This spring, Hendrix was one of four higher education institutions in the country to receive a challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation of Troy, Michigan, to help reach the $26 million goal to support this project.

Kresge is one of the country’s largest philanthropic foundations. Its support of this project is an endorsement of the important role the SLTC will play in changing the lives of those who will change the world.

To successfully meet the Kresge Challenge, Hendrix must now raise the remaining $4.8 million in gifts and pledges for the SLTC by June 2010.

As we enter the final and most important phase of this historic effort, our success depends on the support of Hendrix alumni. The Kresge Challenge provides an extraordinary opportunity to complete the fundraising for the SLTC. Every gift brings us closer to our goal of completing the SLTC. Naming opportunities still exist for gifts from $25,000 to $1 million. Every gift, regardless of the amount, will help Hendrix complete the Kresge Challenge.
