Located on the main quad of Roger Williams University, the building bridges the gap between student movement and artistic creation. As a place for students to explore various mediums using multiple project rooms, two production studions, a wood shop, an electrical shop and media room. It features a 200 seat recital hall and an open gallery connecting to a lobby with a folding wall to allow for natural ventaliation and a maximized space for events. Using a “shoestring concrete columnar structure, it hold a series of unique concrete waffle slabs and extending to the exterior walls. The forms allow for a sense of movement between, through and around the building while tying together the Roger Williams University.

A residence hall designed for the Roger Williams University to accommodate students’ needs to live, study. Built into an existing hill which overlooks the Mt. Hope Bay, it preserves views of the bay pus by forming the slope to form three curved bars cutting into the hillside. This creates vie water for students while keeping the view for the rest of the university. By slicing into the hillside and staggering the levels, it allows for accessible terraces atop each bar. By slightly seperating the bars it creates green courtyard areas parallel to the length of the hallways, allowing for natural light and more study space.

The building aims to become a recognizable shuttle-bus hub for the growing student and faculty population of Roger Williams University by acting not just as a service from point A to point B, but as an experiential movement every time a rider uses the terminal. Using a rhythmic organization of expressed steel frames, it creates a sweeping movement. The movement of the frame is based off scale relative to the user and the shuttle bus, directing the user to face the outward facing side of the building. Using a wooden lattice system it diffuses light into both the the shuttle bus pass-thru and pick-up/drop-off area, lobby, service area and garage. It creates a unique experience by bringing the user into the structure. By using a simple bar organization it minimizes loss of preexisting parking spots, eases access for users and keeps the frames of the structure oriented to best orientate towards the sun to create a simple building, with a sense of movement and recognizable to the Roger Williams University community.

A 48-hour competition throught the design studio to create a stair case for a residence through the presentation of solely a model. The purpose of this design is show movement of the stairs through form and light. The stairs are set between two masses, a small landing pad (black) and the wall holding the second floor (white.) Between the contrasting ends are sculpted wooden stairs, each step having its own unique form based off of “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa by Hokusai. The steps are seperated by a thin semitranslucent light. These provide light for the central area of the room while highlighting the movement on the vertical portion of the formed stairs. The lighting continues onto the steps of the staircase which provide necessary lighting to walk safely at nighttime while illuminating the double-height space.
