LEADERSHIP CORNER

Jonathon “J.P.” Penn

Cluster Lead Leisure and Public Services

As we reflect on the past year and our celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Henry County Parks and Recreation, I am filled with pride for the incredible accomplishments of our team. Over the last twelve months, we have hosted more events than ever before, organized two signature events with a combined attendance of 20,000 people, completed the first Comprehensive Parks Master Plan in fifty years, published articles in national publications, and presented on local, state, and national stages. These efforts have significantly enhanced the services we provide, improving the quality of life for the people of Henry County in ways that will resonate for years to come.

While our 50th year has ended, it is only the beginning. As we embark on year 51, we are ready to take Henry County Parks and Recreation to new heights. We will launch new programs, host exciting events, and open innovative facilities. The North Mt. Carmel Recreation Center, our state-of-the-art addition, will offer cutting-edge amenities, including HCPRD’s first e-gaming room—opening doors to competitive play and the growing world of esports. Additionally, we will continue developing Henry County’s first aquatic center and water park, a facility designed to bring both fun and athletic opportunities to our residents.

As we strive to achieve our ambitious goals, your needs and aspirations remain at the heart of everything we do. Your concerns and desires serve as our guiding compass, shaping the path ahead. We are committed to addressing those concerns while turning your vision into reality. The road ahead will require dedication and hard work, but together, we will continue to make Henry County an even better place to live, work, and play.

Thank you for your passion for our community. Together, we are accomplishing extraordinary things.

PARKS & REC MASTER PLAN

The Master Plan serves to create a vision for the next ten years of progress, growth, and adaptation within Henry County’s Department of Parks and Recreation.

Parks have a unique, multi-faceted power to serve their community. By providing spaces for people to gather and play, protecting and enhancing the local ecology, and representing the area’s social and cultural character, parks weave together nature, public health, and culture in ways that benefit everyone.
