Asheville Culinar y I nstitute Asheville's rapid growing biking community requires safe travel connectors to parks that are North and South of Downtown. The site creates a space for bikers and a Culinary Institute to interact. Patrons come to test food from the culinary institute , ride on the elevated bike path connection, or to enjoy the urban community space at the front of the site.

2.3 Si d e wa l ks Charleston's roads mostly have sidewalks, although the sidewalks are ver y narrow and are cut even closer to the stree t by the planter boxes and telephone poles. Widening the sidewalks would allow for a more accessible frontage to each house and provide more safet y on the sidewalks for pedestrians.
Urban Study By s t u dyin g t he works of Jan e Jac obs, I l ea r n ed ho w t he i n t er -w o r ki n g s of a c it y operat es an d apply it t o C ha r l est o n a n d f o c u sed o n t he import an c e of s idewalks , bike an d c a r r el a t i o n shi p s, a n d t he ex t r em e impo r t a n c e o f m i x ed u se d ev el o p m en t . 4t h y ea r Pro f . J a c o b Li n d sey Bike an d Car Relat ion s hip The second design opportunit y for Charleston's streets that needs at tention is the bike to car relationship. The peninsula thoroughfares are dangerous for bikers due to the lack of bike lanes. Creating safe bike lanes on roads such as the ones highlighted above would allow safe travel throughout the cit y and create a safer relationship for cars and bikers.
M i x ed U se The third inter vention uses cross streets that intersect the peninsula that could allow for mixed use development within the existing buildings. This would keep what Jane Jacobs calls "Eyes on the street"which explains that the more active a street is the safer the street.
