Step 1 Start by tuning the guitar into standard tuning. Use any tuner but make sure each string is perfect Get used to doing this every time you pick up the guitar
Step 2 Learn an E chord - Just place your fingers on the dots It may hurt to keep holding down the strings but try and memorize the pattern and the sound
It may hurt your fingers, just feel the burn! Soon, you wont feel a thing. Once you’ve got it, try strumming in a natural motion.
Step 3 Learn the A chord - Again, place fingers on the dots If you’re a quick learner, try going back to the E chord and then to A again
When strumming the A, try not to hit the low E string (the lowest sounding string)
Step 4 Now the D chord This may be the most popular chord of all time!
So many songs start with it. Try not to strum the bottom 2 lowest strings.
Step 5 After you feel super comfortable with each chord, try switching between the 3 of them, naturally, while strumming.
If you can tap your foot to a song, then you can strum in time too! Just tap your feet and use them as your guide
Step 7 Keep at it! At first, you make find yourself fumbling alot. Stay with it and I promise these will feel more natural.
You need to be a ninja with these chords. With each practice session, let yourself get lost in the sound
Tips As you continue to play these, they will start to feel too easy! Only then, should you move on to other chords
Tips If a steel string acoustic is cutting into your fingers or its just too hard to push down the strings, then try switching to a classical guitar.
These use nylon strings, which are much easier to push down. Electric is even easier, but you dont want to start off learning guitar with too much volume! Learning songs can really help to keep you improving
