Golden Syrup Dumplings

Ingredients
Dumplings • ¼ cup margarine • 1 ½ cups of self-raising flour • ¾ cup of milk • 2 tablespoons of golden syrup Syrup • 2 cups of water • ¼ cup margarine • 1/3 cup of brown sugar Makes 12 dumplings

Method
Put the flour in a large mixing bowl. Using the tips of clean fingers, rub margarine through the flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the milk and golden syrup and stir to form a thick paste. Place the syrup ingredients into a large saucepan (that has a lid) and stir. Bring it to the boil on a high heat, stir and reduce the heat to simmer (gently bubbling). Place large tablespoons of the dumpling mixture into the liquid. Put the saucepan lid on and leave to cook for 15-20 minutes. You can be sure the dumplings are cooked through if you put a fork or skewer through the middle of one and it comes out with no mixture stuck to it.
