SHOPPING When there's a cold snap in the air, thoughts turn to holiday shopping. Central Illinois merchants pride themselves on offering an enjoyable, first-class shopping experience for visitors and residents every day of the year, but special attention is given during the fall and winter seasons. Starting in the northern part of the area, the village of Forsyth provides a variety of options, no matter what you might be looking for. The comfortable surroundings and festive holiday decorations naturally draw shoppers to the Hickory Point Mall. The indoor mall houses popular department stores such as Bergner's, Kohl's,
Von Maur and Sears. But for something specific, shoppers also can search specialty shops for shoes, soaps, sporting goods and home furnishings. Near Hickory Point Mall, shoppers can continue their hunt for the perfect gift at Best Buy, Pier One Imports or Coziahr Harley-Davidson. More shopping centers can be found throughout Decatur and Mount Zion, such as Brettwood Village, Fairview Park Plaza and two Wal-mart shopping centers. These centers house a variety of specialty shops. Visitors can continue their shopping excursions in Decatur's downtown. Anchored by the city's
SHOP
popular Merchant Street, more than 20 blocks are filled with shops, restaurants and entertainment meant to charm and delight, especially during the holiday season. While downtown, don't forget to visit Santa Claus in Central Park. Activities and programs meant for children as well as their adults often surround the Jolly Old Elf's visits. No matter the reason or the season, shoppers can find what they are looking for in the Decatur area. The search can lead them down departments store isles or leaning over a counter in a small shop. The hunt can be half the fun.
