In 2022 Josh Berry with Berry Sanitation and Gail King, Des Arc City Councilperson started a project to enhance visual patriotism on Main Street in Des Arc.
The goal is to have American flags from 1st and Main Street to the West end of the city.
The flags will be flown during holidays and appropriate celebrations.
The City of Des Arc did not have flags to use for this project or a budget to provide items needed.
Jason Foster with WoodmenLife Insurance was contacted for a possible donation to begin the project. WoodmenLife Insurance
responded favorably by donating ten flag kits, which included a flag, a flag pole, and brackets.
Josh Berry installed the brackets from 1st and Main to 5th Street in front of the Prairie County Library.
Berry will put up the flags during times of celebration and holidays and will remove and store them at Des Arc City Hall during the times when they are not being used.
A sincere thank you to WoodmenLife Insurance for their help in beginning this project.
Donations are still being accepted to complete the project. Please contact Josh Berry or Gail King for more information.

The Des Arc Eagles
to 3-2 on the
with a 38-14 win over Class 2A No. 2 Marked Tree on Friday.
the win, Des Arc has now won three consecutive games after being shut out by Hazen and Carlisle to start the season.
Des Arc led the Indians 30-6 at halftime.
Jack Kearby led the Eagles with 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 30 carries.
Treyvion Reed had 153 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Cache Flanagan scored the Eagles' other touchdown in the victory.
"We're playing a little bit better," Des Arc coach Brandon Barbaree said. "We really came out and played well early against Marked Tree. We got up on them, and they didn't really respond. We got some turnovers on defense, which helped out. Everything went our way. The kids played really hard."
Barbaree said his team has made some changes, personnel-wise, after the 0-2 start.
"Things weren't working the way that I wanted them to," he said.
"We made some changes offensively and defensively, which kind of fit our kids better. They are more comfortable, so
they are playing better." Des Arc travels to Clarendon this Friday. The Lions are 4-2 on the season. They beat defending Class 2A state champion McCrory 20-6 last Friday.
"They've got speed," Barbaree said of Clarendon. "They've got two good running backs. The quarterback can throw the deep ball pretty well. They are fast all over the field. It will be a challenge for us all over the field to keep them contained. They've also got some big defensive linemen. We'll have to grind it out and hopefully, control the clock and put some pressure on them.
Cherie Hutchens, Pure International Classy Ms. Arkansas 2022 has coordinated a food drive to benefit Prairie County’s food pantries.
“Food insecurity is a real problem within our county and nation today. As one of the world’s leading nations in food production, this is a problem that we as Americans should meet head-on.” says Mrs. Hutchens. Twenty four million households including 11.6 million households with children under the age of 18 are food insecure, according to national statistics. The Arkansas Food Bank reports 1 in 5 Arkansans are experiencing food insecurity and 25% of
children in this state face hunger.
World Hunger Day is recognized on October 16, 2022, for that reason the food drive will be conducted throughout the county during the month of October. You may drop off your donation directly to the local food pantries in your area, First Baptist Church in DeValls Bluff, City Market in Hazen, Farmers and Merchants Bank in Hazen and the Lily Pad in Des Arc. Renee Stone, owner of Emerge in Conway has partnered with Mrs. Hutchens and will also be a collection site for donations.

If you think the game will end in a tie, write “tie” in the blank. For the 21st game, pick a winner and predict a total number of points scored in the game. Total point predictions will be used as a tie-breaker if two or more entries correctly guess the same number of winners. The entry with the most correct game winner predictions wins the $25 cash prize. If a tie still exists after the total point predictions are judged, the prize money will be divided.
4. Each entry must be filled out completely and legibly to be eligible.
5. Contestants who win will not be eligible for the following week’s contest.
6. Only the person whose name appears on the winning entry may claim the prize unless other arrangements have been made and agreed to by the Herald Publishing Company.

The Hazen Hornets continued their roll through their schedule with a 51-8 win over England on Friday night at Hornets Field.
With the win, Hazen is now 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the 2A-4 conference. Carlisle is second in the standings at 2-0.
Hazen led 24-0 after the first quarter and 440 at halftime. This season, the Hornets’ firstteam defense has not allowed a point.
Hazen’s Braylan
Anderson scored the first three touchdowns of the game. He scored on a four-yard and fiveyard passes from Luke King. He then scored on a 40-yard run.
Justin Schlenker scored on a one-yard run. Josh Dawson scored on passes of 22 and 33 yards.
Anderson then scored on a 66-yard run to end the scoring.
King completed all 11 of his passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns. Anderson rushed for 184 yards on eight carries. Dawson caught 3 passes for 79 yards.
King led the Hornets
with eight tackles.
Collin Kee had six tackles, including two sacks.
“I told them that they have to come out and take care of business,” Hazen coach Joe Besancon said. “We came out really fast. We started running the block a minute and a half into the second quarter when we were up 38-0. We only got really a full quarter of football in. That concerns me.”
Besancon said he’s concerned about his team not having played a full four-quarter game yet where his team is tested. “It’s great to go out and
take care of business,” he said. “But, eventually, we’re going to run into that four-quarter game. Our kids are coming out and doing what they are supposed to do. But, in the back of your mind, how are we going to handle it if we have to play four quarters.”
The Hornets are off this Friday before playing Little Rock
Episcopal on Oct. 21.
“I told them if we took care of business against England, that we’d just come in and lift weights on Monday,” Besancon said, adding that Hazen was out of school Monday. “We’ll try to go hard for about three days this week. If we have a good three days, I’ll give them Friday off.”
After winning only one game a year ago, the Carlisle Bison are poised to have a banner year this season.
Carlisle is 5-0 and ranked No. 3 in Class 2A by the Arkansas Sports Media. The Bison did not play last Friday as it was their built-in open week.
Last season, Carlisle started the year 0-9 before beating England in the final game of the regular season. The Bison then lost in the first round of the watered down Class 2A state playoffs.
Carlisle coach Caleb Shock said his team was not happy about not playing last Friday.
"We hated it," he said. "Holden Jones told me something this week, maybe Wednesday or Thursday, that everyday this week has felt like a Monday." Shock said his team did some different things in practice last week, including shortening them.
"We focused on some things that we needed to correct," he said. "We had a little bit of fun on Wednesday. We did kind of a reverse practice. The skill guys taught the linemen how to be skill guys. The linemen taught the skill guys how to be linemen. We let them scrimmage in reverse roles. That was
fun.
"The kids wanted to play a game on Friday. They were glad that the week was over and ready to get on to game week."
The Bison are averaging 49.4 points per game while giving up only 5.4 points per game.
Senior running back Jason Sullivan has rushed for 898 yards and 18 touchdowns in five games. Jones has passed for 226 yards and five touchdowns this season.
The Bison host Hampton this Friday. The Bulldogs are 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league play. They beat Baptist Prep 58-20 last week.
"They've got a firstyear head coach and he's doing a good job," Shock said. "They've had some good success this year. They had a big win over Baptist Prep. They are running the football really well. They've got some guys who are really explosive."
Shock said his team needs to be more balanced offensively against Hampton than it was against Little Rock Episcopal.
"On defense, it will be about assignments," he said. "They are running the flexbone like Des Arc runs. Any time you face a triple option offense, you've got to be real sound on all of your assignments."
