point conversion to give Hazen the victory. Bearden scored the first points of the game. Hazen tied it at 6-6 on a nineyard run by Pinkney.

“We definitely needed that, for sure,” Hazen coach Joe Besancon said. “We came out with a win. There are still a lot of things we’ve got to get better at. I think we’re playing pretty good defense. That is what is keeping us in games. Offensively, we can’t figure out what we’re doing. We’ve made so many mistakes here and there that it’s a process of elimination. Maybe we didn’t block something right or fumbled a snap. All those

types of little things are what is killing us offensively.”

Landon Adkins led Hazen with 63 yards rushing. Pinkney had 58. Landon Adkins led the Hornets with 17 tackles. Phoenix Ervin had 13. Noah Adkins had 11. Hazen plays at England on Friday night. The Lions are 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play following a 20-16 loss to league newcomer Poyen last Friday.

“They’ve got some speed and a little bit of size,” Besancon said. “Their quarterback is a good hand. They’ve got some guys who can run.”

Eagles bounce back to rout Earle

The Des Arc Eagles bounced back from their tough loss to Carlisle by beating Earle 44-8 in the 2A-2 conference opener Friday night at Earle. With the win, the Eagles are 3-1 on the season.

Hunter Goodman scored three rushing touchdowns on only five carries. Walker Harris and Brayden English each scored a two-point conversion.

Des Arc coach Brandon Barbaree said his team played well against Earle.

“After a tough loss the week before, our young men came out focused with a lot of energy in some pretty nasty conditions and just played lights out,” Barbaree said.

“I’m proud of all of them for playing tough.” Des Arc plays at Marianna this Friday. The Trojans are 0-3 following a 22-0 loss to Marked Tree last Friday. “We will focus on us and trying to get better,” Barbaree said. “We are still looking for that killer instinct and finishing game.”
