New Bethel News By Donna Kelly We had a nice service Sunday morning and Sunday evening. We spent more time singing as we have some new books, and want to learn some of the new songs. There was fellowship after. We missed Tommy Martin and Jennifer Jones as they were not feeling well. We were glad to see Dale and Evelyn Greenwalt as they have had some bad days this year. Dale celebrated a Birthday this week. Linda Loundermilk, Sandy Kelly, Cody

McElroy and Kylee and Cooper enjoyed singing at Walters Chapel Saturday evening. We went to the eye doctor where he was fitted with glasses, however they are not working well. John and I went to the Ingle reunion Saturday in DesArc. Was a very nice get together and we had a nice dinner. It’s October now and I can’t believe how fast they year has gone. We have been so busy going and coming to the doctors. We wish everyone a nice ending of the year and

would like to see everyone back in church. Johnny came over and mowed our yard. He has been quite busy lately, going to his work, and has helped Josh and others getting in their crop out by driving truck’s for them late in the evening. He also keeps up mowing 3 yards. It is about time to go back to church so until another week, wishing all well. We enjoyed being with Charles and Vicki and Bruce as we don’t do that often.

Bob J. Nash with the HistoryMakers Organization visited Hazen High School on Friday, September 30. Nash is a native of Texarkana, Arkansas and has held numerous positions serving the public throughout his life. He began working in a cotton field as a young boy, and later worked in the White House along side the Clintons. Nash dedicated his life to public service at a young age, and continues to serve the public today through the HistoryMakers Organization. HistoryMakers is a nonprofit that recognizes

African Americans who have accomplished significant things in their lives, whether it be in the private or public sector. The HistoryMakers record information on their life and share their stories to help motivate young people to do better in life. Nash talked to assorted 9-12 grade history classes about his personal experiences in serving the public and the many jobs that service has brought him. Nash has worked at the Arkansas State Capitol, The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, the city of Fairfax, Virginia, Washington D.C. city hall, and in the White House among other

things. Each of his jobs gave back to the community he was in, a fact that was eagerly discussed with the students. Nash focused on the importance of education no matter your financial status. He discussed the importance of dedication and persiverance in your education, and about being diligent in looking for scholarships. He also focused on how your education will later effect you in life. He also answered questions from the students, one being about how he overcame hardships and struggles in his life. Nash answered questions and joked with the students throughout each period. Only one question was off limits for the students, who he would be voting for this November. Nash diplomatically delegated the question, and gave no answer, moving on to the roles of the History Maker organization. Nash is a member of the HistoryMakers organization alongside his wife Janis Kearney, the former diarist of President Bill Clinton. Kearney has visited the school district before through the HistoryMakers organization. Nash currently lives in Little Rock and enjoys playing golf and spending time with their two children, and three grandchildren.

Chapter 14 As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3 Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. 4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master[a] that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and

none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess[b] to God.” 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Do Not Cause Another to Stumble 13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. 14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean

for anyone who thinks it unclean. 15 For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. 16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. 20 Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats. 21 It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.[c] 22 The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. 23 But whoev-

er has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin. Chapter 15 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2 Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. 3 For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”[a] 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Accept one another,

then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. 8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews[b] on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed 9 and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing the praises of your name.”[c] 10 Again, it says, “Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people.”[d] 11 And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; let all the peoples extol him.”[e] 12 And again, Isaiah says, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope.”[f] 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Senior High Hornets Secure First Win of the Season and Junior High Hornets Remain Undefeated

Senior High The Hazen Hornets were able to secure their first win for this season Friday as they traveled to Brinkley to play the Tigers. After the disheartening homecoming loss the week before, the Hornets were able the share this with Brinkley for their homecoming game. Hazen began the game Friday with a quick touchdown by Bonds on its first drive. After a good conversion, the Hornets had established an 8-0 lead. Seconds into the second quarter, VanHouten and the Hazen offense was able to push 1 yard into the endzone, and with yet anoth-

er good 2-point conversion, the Hornets were up 16-0. A short run by Duck scored the final Hornet touchdown, and after one more conversion the lead was extended 240. With seconds left in the half, the Tigers finally scored a touchdown of their own, and the failed conversion put them on the board 24-6. With no scores in the third quarter, Hazen still held quite a lead at the start of the fourth. A fumble recovered by Brinkley, however, soon gave them leverage to put points on the board. A touchdown and conversion set the score at 24-14, with the Hornets still in the lead. The Tigers were then

able to recover their own kick, giving them yet another great opportunity to score. They did just that, this time with a failed 2-point try, and Hazen's lead was put into a one-score jeopardy. The Hornets, however, were able to keep the ball for the remainder of the game, securing their victory. This win for Hazen establishes their first for the season. Hopefully, the Hornets can use this momentum to better their current record from 1-4. They will try to do just that as the play the Carlisle Bison in Hazen this Friday.

Junior High The Hazen Junior Hornets beat the Brinkley Tigers Thursday in a battle on the home field. Once again, this 380 victory prolongs Hazen's undefeated status. As the Hornets enter the latter half of their season, it is looking quite hopeful that they will keep this title. Hazen started off great as always Thursday beginning with Keshawn Gray recovering a Brinkley fumble early in the first quarter. With possession of the ball, the Hornets allowed Green to quickly run 15 yards into the endzone, and with the conversion, Hazen was up 80. The Tigers again fum-

ble in the first, this time recovered by Terrell Penn, who soon ran for a 20yard touchdown. After the good conversion, Brinkley was down 16-0. Penn recovered yet another fumble in the quarter, making 3 recoveries so far by the Hornets. This drive, Toll passed the ball to Gray for the touchdown, and with two extra points, Hazen was up 240. In the second quarter, eighth-grader Donovan Harris ran into the endzone for the Hornets, and after the conversion the Hornets increased their lead to 32-0. Seventhgrader Austin Duck scored the final touchdown of the game, and a failed 2-point try set the

score at 38-0 for Hazen. In the second half, many of the seventh-graders once again got playing opportunities. Although the Hornets did not score for the rest of the game, they continued to prevent the Tigers from doing so for a shut-out. With this win, the Hornets' record for this season goes to 5-0. With four games left, all conference, they hope to gain the title of back-to-back undefeated conference champions. We will see how this goes as they challenge the Carlisle Bison at their field Thursday.
