Because of the 117 year history as a family and community newspaper, The Grand Prairie Herald is happy to publish a picture and the first 400 words of an obituary for free as a service and as a courtesy to the families of our community. Unfortunately, with the ever increasing cost of printing and other business expenses the paper cannot provide longer obits for free. Beginning with the 301st word, the rate will be 10 cents per word to publish. Due to the fact that a majority of obituaries are received from funeral homes, the paper reserves the right to edit unpaid obituaries down to 300 words. The entire obituary will only be published if the paper is contacted directly either by email or by phone. The cost of the obituary will be billed to those with accounts or will need to be paid for in advance. Phone: 870-255-4538 Email:heraldpublishing@gmail.com

Hazen City Council considers website The Hazen City Council watched a demonstration of a community website that is being considered for Hazen at their regular November meeting held on November 16 in Hazen City Hall. The website the city is considering would be hosted by Municipalimpact.com, and it would provide the city a needed online presence. The website features customizable drop down boxes and would allow the city to send out alerts to subscribers to the site. It can also be linked to other sites such as the school or other local organizations and businesses. After a $349 setup fee, the city would be charged $39.95 a month or $459.45 a year with no contract and no cancellation fee. Security and support would be included in the fee. The council decided to consult with someone familiar with technology and decide what to do at the next meeting. Members Tim Juola, Clevella Mosby, Barbara Rogers, Rick Wiggins were in attendance along with Mayor David Duch and Recorder-Treasurer David Hardke. During the departmental reports, Police Chief Bradley Taylor reminded the council that the holi-
days are often a time of home and business breakins. Utility Manager Phillip Foot reported that his department has finished the sewer work in preparation for winter. He also stated that the track under the caboose beside depot is collapsing. He estimated that it would cost $3000 to hire a crew to move the caboose onto a regular track, but that he would do some more research on the matter. Mayor Duch showed the council a picture of the new lights that will be installed along the walking trail in Hazen. The lights will cost $24,000 to $30,000, and the city will be responsible for the trench and conduit. The council had expressed concern about the drainability of the creek that runs from West Front Street through the city to behind Bob Juola’s home. A bid to clean out the creak had been received from Chris Carroll, who said that the work would cost the city $7000. The council voted to have the work done. Mayor Duch told the council that the Union Missionary Baptist Church had picked up trash in the town and expressed his thankfulness for their community service.

Turkey Week declared LITTLE ROCK, AR During a ceremony Monday, November 20, at the State Capitol, Governor Hutchinson joined agriculture leaders, industry partners, and students from Arkansas 4H and FFA as he declared the week of November 19-26 as Turkey Week in Arkansas. The Turkey Week proclamation highlights Arkansas's turkey industry and its value to Arkansas's economy and agriculture industry. Arkansas Agriculture Secretary Wes Ward said, "Agriculture is our state's largest industry with an economic impact of over $20 billion each year. The poultry industry, which includes turkey, chicken and eggs, provides 48.5% of that total, and we are thankful for the farmers and ranchers who provide this protein every year." Recognizing the importance of future generations to the sustainability of Arkansas's agriculture industry, the ceremony featured participants from the 4H Turkey Project of Conway County who brought a live turkey they raised as part of the proj-
ect. "Arkansas ranks third in the nation for turkey production and what better time to recognize their hard work than the week of Thanksgiving. Thank you to our dedicated farmers who raise 26 million turkeys per year, and industry leaders like Cargill and Butterball for their impact on our state," said Poultry Federation
President, Marvin Childers. Turkey continues to be a top protein choice for American consumers with average annual consumption being 16.7 pounds per person in 2016. Hornets come back to win 20-1 1 4 over Panthers by Ross Harper The Hazen Hornets pulled off a comeback win Friday night against the Magnet Cove Panthers. Although they struggled through the first half, the Hornets turned it around in the second half and
on their second offensive play of the night. The Panthers recovered on the Hornet 32-yard line, but did eventually turn it over on downs. Like the first, Hazen's next drive ended in another fumble. Magnet Cove managed to

Busted plays, few defensive stops, and a limited number of possessions put the Hornets in a situation not seen all season: a scoreless half. score on this drive, and after the extra-point, the Hornets were down 0-7. Troubles continued for Hazen, who only got two more possessions for the rest of the half. The Panthers scored their second touchdown between those two, again with a good extra-point for a score of 0-14. In the second half, the Hornets played like an entirely different team. After getting a quick stop in the
third quarter, Hazen got the ball on the Panther 47-yard line. They got their first touchdown of the night on a short run by Tarrell Penn. The conversion was good, and the Hornets were on the board 8-14. He then scored Hazen's second touchdown after another defensive stop. The conversion was no-good, but the game was tied up 1414. The Hornets stopped the Panthers once again, but fumbled the ball back to Magnet Cove for the third time. This next drive was put to an end by Jacob Weems, who intercepted the Panthers' ball. Hazen proceeded to drive all the way down the field, scoring their last touchdown on a keep by Blayne Toll. The conversion failed, but they took the lead 20-14. After one more stop, the Hornets lined up in victory formation and secured their win. Although frightening at times, Friday's game turned out well for Hazen.. For round three, the Hornets will travel to Camden Harmony Grove. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
