Hazen Police seize drugs on I-40 Bralyn Wadlington is now in custody at the Prairie County Detention Center after a high speed chase on Interstate 40 that took place on Thursday, November 18, 2021. Wadlington, a 25 year old black male, was travelling eastbound on I-40 when Hazen Police Chief Bradley Taylor noticed that Wadlington’s Ford Crown Victoria was weaving in and out of traffic without using traffic signals and moving at a faster rate of speed than the other vehicles on the road around the 196 mile marker. Taylor attempted to make a traffic stop, but when he

turned on his lights and siren, Wadlington continued to travel east, reaching speeds of 107 miles per hour. Wadlington took the

Biscoe exit off Interstate 40, first traveling north on Highway 33, and then getting back on the interstate heading west. Assisted by Hazen

Police Officer Teddy Walker, Taylor performed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) which caused Wadlington to lose con-

trol of his vehicle, forcing him into the median. Wadlington then jumped out of his vehicle and ran into a cotton field where he was apprehended. After a search of Wadlington's vehicle the officers found two large bags of marijuana with a total gross weight of two pounds and nine ounces. Baggies and a scale were also found in the car. Wadlington was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and fleeing by vehicle, both Class D felonies, and fleeing on foot, a Class A misdemeanor, along with several traffic violations.

DeValls Bluff Council votes to reinstate police department The DeValls Bluff City Council met for a short special meeting on Tuesday, November 23, in the DeValls Bluff City Hall to consider three different matters: reinstating the city’s police department, voting to give city employees a bonus, and hiring a gas consultant. Present along with Mayor Brian Dodson and Recorder/Treasurer Darlene Connor were Councilmembers Richard Henry, Alice Metcalf, Raymond Watson, and Carol Griffin and Leah Woodall.

The council decided to hire an officer for the newly reinstated police department, and made plans to advertise the position. “This is really serious, and I don’t want us to take it (the choice of the officer) lightly,” Dodson said. Presently the Prairie County Sheriff’s Department is patrolling the city. The council also voted unanimously to give city employees a bonus that would be given out by Thanksgiving. The third order of business was the hiring of a gas consultant. The person who presently holds

this position is on a contract that pays him a set amount each month whether he does any work for the city or not. Dodson said that the new gas consultant, Michael Lindsay, would not have a contract with the city and would only charge the city when he did work for it. The mayor also said that he intends for two of the city utilities workers to get certified in natural gas. It will cost the city $1200 to get them certified. All members agreed with the plan except for Richard Henry, who voted no.
