Corrections

Portions of the Herald article reporting on the November 21st Hazzen City Council meeting were incorrect. The report on the bonus calculations was incorrect. These are not raises but bonuses. The mayor explained how he intends to allocate funds for employee Christmas bonuses. Using 3% of the regular payroll for the 19 full-time employees (not including overtime), those with less than 12 years of service would receive $1,500.00, those with 12+ years of service would receive $1,750.00, and department managers with the most employees to supervise would receive up to about $2,000.00.

Part-time employees would receive a lesser amount. The total projected cost is approximately $37,000.00. The $976,332.40 mentioned is the 2024 city payroll expense prior to benefits and overtime. Mayor Hardke then shared with the council a comparison of the amounts of money that were spent to help fund the gas department through October 2023 and through October 2024 (after the rate increase). In 2023, the city transferred $137,504.00, and in 2024 the city has transferred $44,300, which is down $93,000+. Apologies to Mayor Hardke and the council.

Apply now for Arkansas trophy alligator gar permit

By

AR Game and Fish Commission

LITTLE ROCK –Anglers interested in hooking into an epicsized trophy fish can apply for a 2025

Alligator Gar Trophy tag from now until the end of 2024.

Many Arkansas anglers travel all the way to the Gulf of Mexico each year in search of trophy fish like tarpon and sailfish.

Most don’t know they are passing up a similar opportunity right here in The Natural State. While not truly a dinosaur, the alligator gar was alive during the Cretaceous Period , and individual gar take decades to reach 6 feet long. They are the second largest species of freshwater fish in North America, only topped by the white sturgeon. They frequently grow longer than 7 feet and weigh more than 200

pounds. The largest fish ever caught in Arkansas was an alligator gar in the Red River that weighed 241 pounds, more than 100 pounds heavier than the state’s next largest Arkansas catch, a 116-pound blue catfish that once held a world record. Alligator gar can take years to reach the 36inch mark, and females aren’t able to reproduce until they are 14 years old. Their slow maturity rate combined with

habitat loss due to dams and channellization of the large rivers in their traditional range and a misconception as a trash fish or predator of other game species have hindered populations to the point where extra caution is required for harvest.

Anyone may fish for alligator gar on a catchand-release basis with an Alligator Gar Permit (AGP), but a trophy tag (AGT) is required to keep an Alligator Gar

longer than 36 inches. Interested anglers can enter the free online drawing from Dec. 1-31 for one of 200 Alligator Gar Trophy tags for the 2025 season. Applications are available under the “Fishing License” section of the AGFC’s online license system at https://arweb.s3licensing.com. The drawing will occur Jan. 2, 2025. Applicants will be notified of the results by email.

Carlisle children take to the track for their own parade

- A letter to our customers -

I would like to thank so many of you for all the years you have traded with and supported us and our pharmacy at Medsker’s. Many of you are very dedicated and loyal customers whom I’ve grown to know, love and care about over the years our pharmacy has been in business here in Carlisle. But due to

unfortunate circumstances our pharmacy will be closing its doors at the year of the year. We will continue to be here for you to help guide you through this process. Take some time to think about what pharmacy you would like to use and let us know. We would like to fill your prescriptions

once more if possible before the end of the year and then transfer them to your pharmacy of choice. We will fill your prescription and run a prescription report for 2024 for your records and taxes next year. We can also print you a current drug list. If there is something else you need, let us

know. Please pray for each of us through this transformation as well. These next few weeks are going to be stressful for us all.

I thank each of you for your dedication, loyalty and friendship.

Your hometown pharmacist and friend, Connie Medsker

Some of the children of Carlisle decided to hold their own special Christmas parade last Saturday afternoon at four in the Carlisle City Park. Here are some pictures of the event.
