Hamilton selected for Riceland Board of Directors Riceland members from the North Grand Prairie District recently selected John Hamilton to be their representative on the Riceland Foods Board of Directors. Hamilton farms rice and soybeans on an Arkansas Century Farm near Griffithville, Ark. “I am truly honored and humbled for this opportunity to serve the Riceland membership,” Hamilton said. “My family has farmed rice since the 1950’s, and I look forward to being part of the team to take Riceland into the future.” Hamilton will replace Keith Watkins, who is retiring from the board after 31 years of service. Watkins was first elected to the board in 1990 as the representative from the North Grand Prairie District. Riceland’s Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Rich Hillman said it has been a pleasure to serve with Watkins. “Keith’s great insights and turn row common sense were a great addition to our team, and Riceland Foods is a stronger cooperative because of his service,” Hillman said. Hamilton is a 1997 graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a degree in Agricultural Business and a minor in Agronomy. He is also active with White County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, AgHeritage Farm Credit Nominating Committee and the Arkansas Wheat Promotion Board. John, his wife Mikki and their sons John David and Jim live in Searcy. His service with the board of directors will begin at the May 2022 meeting.

TRUTH I am a Republican who supports the idea that government that is closer to the people has a better understanding of its problems. Some say we should not concern ourselves with the National issues on the local level. Our answer is that if we do not voice our concerns at the local level, then Big Government gets the idea that they have the only answer and forget about the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Our answer is “Our God Given Rights.” I have been a leader in the Arkansas Republican Party for over 20 years, as a Prairie County Chairman and as a member of the Arkansas Republican State & District committee. One of the greatest joys of my political career was being selected President Donald Trump County Coordinator for the 2016 and 2020 Campaign. I need your vote and support on May 24, 2022!!!!! By Mark Buffalo Sports Editor The Carlisle Bison weightlifting team won the Class 2A state championship during the Arkansas State Weightlifting Meet on 7 at Lake Hamilton High School. The Bison finished with a total of 4,320 pounds lifted, edging out defending champion Fordyce by 40 pounds. Junction City was third. Carlisle’s Cory Linz finished third overall in the 124-132 pound weight class with a bench press of 215 pounds and clean of 185 pounds. Each athlete gets three attempts at the bench press and three attempts at the clean. Team members include: Luke Petrus, Ben Smith, Brice Isbell, Jason Sullivan, Ethan Foster, Kayleb Elliott, Devin
Cooney, Gavin Richter, Linz and Lawson Petrust. “We really performed well in the clean, which is something we stress quite a bit,” Carlisle coach Caleb Shock said. In the clean, Lawson Petrus placed seventh out of 23 lifters and first among 2A schools. Linz was fourth and first among 2A schools. Sullivan was third and first in 2A. Isbell was 10th overall and second in 2A. Smith was 7th and first in 2A. Both Petruses, Smith, Sullivan, Foster, Elliott, Cooney, Richter and Linz are members of the conference champion track team. The Bison also had football players like Holden Jones, Gabe Boyle, Davis Haws, Drake Burks, David Faucett and Hayden Ingle who played on the
Bison baseball team that finished runner-up in the regular season and district tournament. “I’ve been very proud of the hard work our kids have put in this offseason,” Shock said. “Our core group of guys we know we have to count on have consistently shown up and competed any way they have been asked to do. We have also been able to add a few more players, and we hope they stick with it and will make a difference this fall. “It has really been enjoyable to watch these guys willingly work and then get to celebrate success, both in track and in the weight meet. But after each one, they’ve told me it sure is nice, but they really want to be winning a championship this fall.”
