Free fishing weekend in Lonoke LITTLE ROCK – Not only will the fishing in Arkansas be free on the weekend of June 10-12, but the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will provide plenty of free opportunities around the state for kids and adults to fish on Saturday, June 11. The AGFC’s Joe Hogan Hatchery in Lonoke will be open to the public for the traditional fishing derbies on the Saturday of Free Fishing Weekend. The hatchery will have a pond stocked with catfish, and all ages are welcome from 8 a.m. until noon. Some bait will be provided at the sites, but all participants will need to bring their own fishing equipment (rod and reels, hooks, bobbers and so

forth). New this year at the hatchery will be a Fishing 101 class at the four participating hatcheries, to be held from 4:30-6 p.m. on Friday, June 10. “For the Saturday derbies, we’re scaling those back to be more hands-on, basically teaching participants who need a few tips such as the way to tie a knot, bait a hook, and teaching them the proper techniques.” All anyone has to do is register. The Fishing 101 classes will be capped at 50 participants, but the Saturday derbies will have no limit for participants. To register for Fishing 101 or the next-day hatchery derbies, visit https://www.agfc.com/en/e

Taking a walk on the Des Arc trail... The future and what it might hold is on my mind today and my spirits were lifted on a recent fine morning when I noticed the Des Arc School Pre-School class and three instructors on the Walking Trail near the Des Arc Courthouse. One child asked me if I was a cop, and one wanted to know if I would take her picture! They were having a great outing. I did not get a good shot of the group, they are not still for very long! Grand Prairie Quilt Club has retreat By Marsha Heien The Grand Prairie Quilt Society held their annual quilt retreat 6/25/2022 at the Cross Heirs Retreat Center in Humphrey...we had 7 attendees who enjoyed 3 days of sewing, EATING, visiting, and just hanging out and sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds. Chef Ashley presented delicious meals and scrumptious desserts. We waddled from table to table, checking out each other's works in progress....Laurie processed men's ties to make a remembrance pillow, Betty cut out pieces for a Xmas quilt, Natalie designed her Snow Leopard quilt hanging, Pat sewed her half-square triangle blocks, Maeola put together her Crown Royale quilt blocks, Nola worked on her

"Black and White" sampler quilt top, and Marsha crocheted on her Retreat afghan. We all had a great time but

the best in their future retirement adventures. All too soon it was time to say good-bye and head home. But we will

Natalie's appliqued/thread painted Eagle tote bag. will miss Moe and Jeff when they retire as managers of Cross Heirs. We wish them

take with us fond memories of a lovely retreat with congenial companions.
