The HHS Art Club visited the Arkansas Arts Center and the UALR Art Department on Friday, January 27. The students began their day with breakfast from the Community Bakery.

Hazen School Board honored by Student Council The Hazen School Board held their regular monthly meeting on January 23 in the Hazen High School Library. Members present were President David Strohl, David Williams, Freddie Rogers, Richie Ingle, Vicki Skarda,and Sandra Penn. Also in attendance were Superintendent Nanette Belford, High School Principal Roxanne Bradow, Elementary Principal Tiffany Glover , Elementary Vice Principal Clint Williams , PPC President Donna Felty, and Cindy Ciganek. Before the meeting began cake and refreshments were served to the school board by HHS Student Council members and sponsor Debbie Carlyle in honor of School Board Appreciation Month. The meeting was then opened with a prayer and the minutes from the December meeting were approved. District

Treasurer Warrants #23197-23307 and 4291643021 were approved. As well as Athletic Checks #76060-76118 and Cafeteria Warrants #81516-81521 and #84522-84524. There were no Action , CPPC, and PPC Items to report. Elementary Principal Tiffany Glover informed the board of the upcoming 100th day of school and the Elementary School’s plans to celebrate with a balloon release. She told board members about the upcoming Gifted and Talented trip for a competition, teachers visiting from Beebe to observe the kindergarden phonetics program, and the 2nd Nine Weeks award ceremony. Ms. Bradow updated the board on the upcoming art trip and spaghetti dinner, FFA competitions, and Lunch with the Principal on February 3rd. She also told the board members about the

HHS senior receives scholarship Patrick Hoover of Hazen High School has been selected to receive the Blue and Gold Scholarship from Southern Arkansas University. This scholarship includes $4500 per semester and has a four-year value of $3600. Hoover is the son of Barbara Hoover. SAU is fastest growing and most affordable university in Arkansas. Although SAU maintains low cost to students, quality and student success are still the top priorities. According to the U.S. Department of Education's 2015 data, SAU has the highest return on investment among all Arkansas universities. SAU has repeatedly surpassed enrollment records in part because of its comprehensive list of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, which

includes exciting new and growing offerings like the B.F.A. in Music Theatre, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Computer Game and Animation Design, Business Entrepreneurship, and Wildlife and Marine Biology.

Superintendent Nanette Belford informed the board that the last day of school is now January 30th due to the snowday and that last regular home game will be on January 31. The board voted unanimously to hire Allen Minton for the maintenance effective January 24.

The HHS Art Club hosted their 2nd Spaghetti Dinner to raise money to fund their trip Crystal Bridges in Bentonville. The students served homemade spaghetti and the fixings at the Hazen First United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 29.

4-H H meets at Community Center on January 23 The Grand Prairie 4-H Club met Monday, January 23 at 3:30 at the Hazen Community Center. Jesse Bocksnick, Arkansas 4-H Outdoor Skills Coordinator, was the guest speaker and taught gun safety rules, safe handling and care of guns, the four basic shooting positions, and shooting range procedures.
