What is the need for a resolution? It comes every year like clock-work. The year 2016 has come and gone with its array of colorful events. Highlights stem from the exhilarating start of the Olympic games to the pandemonium surrounding the race for our new President and all the in-betweens of tragedies, triumphs, and new discoveries. However, we are entering into the year 2017. Some see the new year as a pure, untouched canvas ready to be painted with new colors, unique strokes and brimming with the hope of new opportunities. Others view it as another year to hop in and continue to live on repeat in the circular rut their life has taken. The idea of resolutions have a dark-cloud tied to them like a ball and chain. Based on countless stories, the very notion of entering into the dreaded process of developing resolutions provokes feelings of failure, inconsistency, and with it the thought that it all in all was a "good effort." Maybe its not the aspiration of having a new year's resolution that we need or desire to achieve, but an aim to live, to find purpose in the moments of each day. Sure, the goals and the ambitions we set certainly layout a guideline of what we would like to do and accomplish. Yet, whether we strive to change our bodies by diet and exercise, to educate

our minds and bolster our standing in the knowledge-breeding community, or to learn more about God by disciplining ourselves to dive deeper into His word such thoughts fall prey to lofty daydreams and unmet expectations. Does it have to be this way? Is there another pro and con list being drafted to help alleviate the pressure found within the waves of debate to pen or not to pen resolutions? What if our aims, our goals were rooted in what man's chief end is? Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever. Free-floating anxieties rapidly rise in the hearts of the believer, the skeptic, the atheist and the antagonist at the mention of anything that competes with the glory of us, the success of us. To reason in our minds that there is someone perfect, sovereign and worthy of our adoration, respect, and service terrorizes us. We rationalize by grasping for resolutions, goals and aims that are grafted into what we think we can mange and obtain. What can glorify and serve us. Finding that after a few months, a few weeks, a few days that the theory, that the aspiration disappears like the dew that dries in light of the morning sun. This life is not about us. The successes that have been gained are at the allowance of the Almighty Maker's hand. With or without you the

glory will be given to God. The target of this post isn't to advocate for those wasting their time questioning whether or not to immerse yourself into the poorly practiced resolution list. It is to enlighten the eyes of those who are sick and tired of the crumbling foundation that we have set our resolutions on or those who grapple with the lack of control they perceive they have. My intention is to encourage you that as you craft and design your resolution/goal calendar for the year 2017, or if you decide not to, to ponder and reflect on what your aim is in each and every moment that is tied to your day. Believer, until the mindset of glorifying self is silenced by the overwhelming, magnificent, captivating grandeur of God you will not be able to attain the chief end of man or find fulfillment. Root your resolutions to sprout seeds that bloom full of His glory. Model the same attitude of Jesus. "If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood." John 7:17–19 For the unbeliever, I tell

you that the Gospel is very simple. You may know the stories, you may have presumptions based on the actions of Christ-followers, you may have walked once according to the light of God's Word and have turned to walk in the desires of your flesh because of tragedy or by the pull of your glory-hunger but you will never find fulfillment, contentment in what the world's promised, in what you believe you can achieve. "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord," Acts 3:19 New Years Resolutions don't need to be ridden with failure stories. Let's revolutionize resolutions with a greater dedication and devotion to place the fuel of our desires into what is true and sure. You still may feel failure and experience inconsistency because as a human you are always the flawed factor of the equation, but with God there will always be consistency, sureness and faithfulness. Set your goals and ambitions with the purpose, the desire, the longing to glorify God this New Year and for the rest to come until one day he returns. Happy New Year! 1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. 2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. 3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. 4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: 5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the

faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. 12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom

I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. 1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. 2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. 4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication

with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. 10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ

which strengtheneth me. 14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. 15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. 16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. 17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. 18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 21 Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you. 22 All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household. 23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (To the Philippians written from Rome, by Epaphroditus.)

Attorney General announces mobile office locations LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has announced the mobile office locations for January. Attorney General Rutledge created the mobile office initiative during her first year in office to make the office accessible to everyone, particularly to those who live outside the capital city. In both 2015 and 2016, office hours were held in all 75 counties assisting nearly 1,300 Arkansans. The Attorney General Mobile Offices assist constituents with consumer related issues in filing consumer complaints against scam artists. Staff will also be available to answer questions about the office and the other services it offers to constituents. Rutledge believes there is no issue too small for her staff to have a face-to-face conversation. The mobile office will be

in Prairie County on Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Project Mountain Senior Center, 1103 E Main St. in Des Arc. Rutledge will also continue her partnership that began in 2016 with local law enforcement across the State to offer prescription drug take back boxes. Law enforcement will be at all mobile offices to handle a secure box and properly dispose of the prescriptions collected. Rutledge encourages Arkansans to bring their old, unused or expired prescription medications to an upcoming mobile office. For more information about services provided by the Attorney General’s office, visit ArkansasAG.gov or call (501) 682-2007. Rutledge can also be found on Facebook at facebook.com/AGLeslieRu tledge and on Twitter at twitter.com/AGRutledge.
