The Hazen HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) November Group Meeting was at the Hazen Community Center Monday, November, 14th 2016. Katelynn Carrell welcomed the families to the group meeting. Each child received Turkey sticker page and a I am thankful for turkey after signing in. After signing in Home based educators Linda Strohl and Katelynn Carrell Gathered the children to do a turkey walk. The Children Fallowed home based educators around the community center flapping wings and gobbling like turkeys. Then everyone gathered around Mrs. Jennie Gates for

story time. The story that was read was “10 Fat Turkeys” by Tony Johnston. After reading about the 10 turkeys the children then got to make a turkey of their own using their hand print as the turkey’s body. When the children had finished with the hand print turkey they then went to a pinecone turkey center. Here the children make a turkey using pinecones and they choose of feathers ribbons and eyes. When everyone was finished with their turkeys we then had a HIPPY thanksgiving. Which consisted of a turkey sandwich, chips, and a Capri sun. While the family were eating Coordinator Jennie

Gates drew one ticket form each home based educator that would determine the winner of the door prize. This month’s door prize was a butter ball turkey. The winner of the Turkey from Mrs. Linda’s class was Christina Duncan. The winner of Mrs. Katelynn’s Class was Selah Lee. Then as the children got ready to leave each child received the book “10 Fat Turkeys” by Tony Johnston and a turkey pencil. The HIPPY office Would Like to Wish Everyone a Safe and Happy thanksgiving. Public Notice The Hazen School District will destroy Special Education records of graduated students dated prior to December, 1, 2010. The records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district by December 1, 2016, to pick up the records. Hazen City Council Passes New Fowl Ordinance The Hazen City Council held their monthly meeting on November 17 at City Hall. The meeting began with a prayer and roll call. The following members were present: Mayor David Duch, Recorder David Hardke, Council Members Steve Chlapecka, Tim Juola, Clevella Mosby, Barbara Rogers, and Rick Wiggins. The minutes from the October meeting were approved before committee reports and department head reports were given. Fire Chief Ashley Loudermilk reported there had been 11 first responder calls, 4 grass fires, 1 big truck fire, and 1 controlled fire. He also told the Council that the fire trucks had been serviced for the winter.Police Chief Bradley Taylor reported 176 misdemeanors concerning marijuana, 161 drug paraphernalia misdemeanors, and 47 counts of possession/controlled substances. Philip Foot was not present at the meet-

ing to discuss utilities. New Business was given after hearing from the department heads. Mayor Duch told the Council that the Legislative Audit Report has been submitted to the State for review. The matter of Judge Rogers retirement balance was discussed. Mayor Duch suggested paying off Judge Rogers remaining balance to save the city money in the long run. It was then moved and seconded before being approved by all members, Ordinance No. 475 was discussed due to the issue of chickens around town roaming and damaging property. The ordinance will call for all fowl to be penned up within city limits from now on. The ordinance was moved by Council member Wiggins and seconded by Council member Juola before being approved by all. It was then moved, seconded, and agreed that the meeting would then be dismissed.
