A Matter of the Heart It’s the month of love and matters of the heart. Good heart health is about so much more than whether your heart is pumping well. Our emotions and support network play a huge role in how healthy we are, not just for the heart but our overall health. Recent studies have shown that the biggest contributor to long life is a person’s support network – how much and how well they connect with those who are closest to them. High blood pressure can be a warning sign that everything is not working right. If this is the case, it’s important to deal with it before things get worse. Don’t let issues pile up – deal with the little things before they become big things. Publisher’s Note

ily, though there are warning signs to be wary of. There are so many resources available to people nowadays – we’ve compiled articles in this issue that can help a person regardless of where they are in life. Even something simple as the lovely scent of roses can make one feel better – regardless of age or whether there is a partner. Make self-care part of your life – or reach out to others and give them something thoughtful. Rose essential oil, a hydrosol of roses, bath salts with roses can all go a long way to making yourself or a loved one feel better. Give it to a partner, mom, friend, aunt, grandmother. Even men enjoy something special. Try out the heart healthy black bean burger recipe with the sparkling raspberry drink. Enjoy February and heart month.

Don’t be one of those statistics – the guy who suddenly dropped dead of a heart attack at 42 because he ignored the warning signs and was pushing too hard. Women are susceptible too. Women tend to have a better support network with friends and fam-

The Power of

ROSES

Roses are amazing. With their intoxicating aroma and beautiful shape, they are the number one flower chosen by lovers to express their sentiments towards each other. An indulging milk bath with rose petals or petals strewn on the bed are appreciated by both men and women alike. Roses aren’t just for lovers, they are often given to women too on Mother’s Day. While red is the most popular color, shades of pink, yellow, and a deep velvety black are even appreciated.

Roses for Emotions Beyond the intoxicating scent, roses have the power to heal emotions, particularly heartbreak. So roses aren’t just for lovers, but lovers who have gone their separate ways. Rose is recommended for people who have experienced loss in their lives and or who suffer from digestive complaints that are often associated with grief. The scent of rose can be an intoxicating sensory experience which affects all the cells in the body and helps the body heal. But the experience is all the proof we need that love is like a red, red rose.

Lower Stress Not surprisingly, studies have shown that the scent of roses can help heal wounds as inhaling it inhibits water loss in the skin. It also lowers the concentration of cortisol (a stress hormone) in the body. The scent helps people heal 4

from emotional wounds or deepen the emotions of one in love. An attar of roses is a particularly lovely way to enjoy the scent. First discovered in Persia, this is the essential oil of rose which is often made into a perfume or fragrance oil. It takes many pounds of roses to produce one ounce of essential oil. Dot the perfume or fragrance oil lightly on pulse points on the arms, neck and chest for best benefit.

Roses for Skin The rose is an herb that contains a complex array of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which are particularly beneficial to people with sensitive skin. It can be used as an extract, a hydrosol, an essential oil, rose hip seed oil or a rose cream.

Rose Extracts Rose extracts possess excellent emollient properties for moisturizing dry skin. The extract also offers antiseptic and astringent properties to treat skin with acne, as well as possessing soothing properties that reduce redness and inflammation. Rose essential oil can also help refine skin textur e, improving skin conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis

Rose Hydrosol Rose hydrosol (also known as rosewater, rose floral water, or rose distillate) is derived from an intricate process from making the essential oil. Small

Hydrosols, Hips and more

batches of rose buds are steamed in copper distilleries and ultimately release the volatile therapeutic compounds into the water. The essential oil is drawn off and what’s left is rose water – which contains molecules of essential oil and constituents from the flower. This precious water is captured drop by drop. This hydrosol has anti-bacterial properties that help to maintain the skins natural ph balance, which can guard against various skin issues like eczema. As Rose hydrosol is also extremely hydrating it works great combined with a light dry oil.

Rosehip Seed Oil Rosehips are the small seeds that remain after the bloom of the rose has come and gone. The oil extracted from these seeds has brilliant anti-aging properties and acts as a powerful antioxidant due to its high concentration of vitamin C. The fatty acids in rosehip seed oil have been lauded by scientists for strengthening cellular membranes and regenerating skin tissue – especially in the sensitive area around the eyes. This helps fade minor scars, burns and stretch marks. Apply it liberally to quench dry, sun damaged skin and improve any imperfections.

Rose Cream Rose based creams are great for hydrating the skin. The natural sugars contained in rose petals soothe, soften and moisturize the skin. This type of moisture

is deep and abiding – it is best applied at night to reconstruct damaged cell structure. Rose cream is wonderfully protective in the winter months when the skin can experience more dryness.

Secrets to a

Healthy Heart Long before the ancient Greek surgeon Galen carried out meticulous dissections of the heart, the Egyptians wrote about health and disease in relation to how the heart "speaks in vessels" with the rest of the body. Today, physicians may not associate the heart with the soul (or soul mates), but many credit early Egyptian medical knowledge of the heart as a precursor to modern cardiology.

The Heart: Powerful, but Vulnerable

The Silent Killer

A key element of a healthy body is a healthy heart. The heart is the center of our cardiovascular system and beats an average of 100,000 times per day supplying oxygen rich blood to the whole body. Every day we make choices that have a profound affect on the health of this vital organ. Most heart disease (HD) is linked to risk factors such as lack of exercise, obesity, smoking, stress, and poor eating habits.

Blood pressure is the amount of pressure exerted on the inside of blood vessels as the heart pumps the blood through the body. When there is resistance in the vessels, the pressure rises and hypertension results. The longer hypertension goes undetected and/or uncontrolled, the greater the damage to blood vessels and other organs. Hypertension can lead to heart attack, stroke, ruptured blood vessels, kidney disease or failure, and heart failure.

One major condition that can develop with these risk factors is Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. Often called the 'silent killer', Hypertension can cause significant damage throughout the cardiovascular and other body systems and ultimately results in over 80 million deaths each year.

Warning signs for high blood pressure are rare but can include headaches, blurred vision, lightheadedness, shortness of breath and nosebleeds. However, there are typically no warning signs or symptoms for hypertension, which is why it is called the silent killer. Hypertension is diagnosed by looking at 2 numbers in your BP reading: Systolic pressure (the top number) is the pressure in your arteries when the heart beats (contracts). Diastolic pressure (bottom number) represents the pressure in your arteries between beats. • Normal blood pressure is below 120/80 • Prehypertension is 120 - 139 systolic or 80 - 89 diastolic. • Hypertension is 140/90 or higher

The Potassium Secret for a Healthy Heart You’ve no doubt heard that the best thing to do when you have hypertension is to reduce the amount of salt/sodium in your diet. Did you know the average adult needs 4,700 mg of potassium daily compared to only 200 mg of sodium. Unfortunately for most of us, our eating habits give us way too much sodium - 3,300 mg a day - and not nearly enough potassium. This imbalance can increase your risk of developing hypertension. What’s truly important for your heart, and a more accurate strategy to prevent high blood pressure, is to balance the relationship between potassium and sodium (salt) in your daily diet. Proper sodium-potassium balance is necessary for nerve transmission, muscle contraction, fluid balance, and the optimal health of all the cells in your body. In regard to the heart, potassium is particularly important for regulating heart rhythm and maintaining blood pressure. By reducing your sodium intake, you are often correcting the sodium-potassium imbalance without realizing it. To further support your heart health, eat more potassium-rich foods such as sweet potato, spinach, banana, peas, legumes, apricots, avocados, halibut and molasses.

More Healthy Heart Tips Heart-Healthy Diet Do's: Eat a variety of fresh fruits and dark green veggies daily. Use plant-based oils for cooking. Eat mindfully, not on-the-run. Reduce or eliminate packaged foods, sugar, and red meat. Walk, No Need to Run: 30 minutes of daily, brisk walking lowers your risk for hypertension. Be Calm: Learn to manage stress with healthy coping techniques, such as, deep breathing, yoga, meditation, gratitude journaling, and getting quality sleep.

Supplemental Support: Nutritional supplements shown to support heart health include Hawthorn, CoQ10, Essential Fatty Acids, Magnesium, Garlic and B-vitamins. Supplements you might have heard about—Natto-K (nattokinase), Guggul, or Niacin— should not be taken without the supervision of your health practitioner. Because some blood pressure medications affect the potassium level in the body, be sure and discuss the best strategy for making this adjustment with your Holistic Doctor. The Heart is a Second Brain By Colin Gillies

Far more than a simple pump, as was once believed, the heart is now recognized by scientists as a highly complex system with its own functional "brain". Research in the new discipline of neurocardiology shows that the heart is a sensory organ and a sophisticated center for sending, receiving and processing information. The nervous system within the heart (or "heart brain") enables it to learn, remember, and make functional decisions independent of the brain's cerebral cortex. Moreover, numerous experiments have demonstrated that the signals the heart continuously sends to the brain influence the function of higher brain centers involved in perception, cognition and emotional processing. In addition to the extensive neural communication network linking the heart with the brain and body, the heart also communicates information to the brain

and throughout the body (unseen but measurable) via electromagnetic field interactions. The heart generates the body's most powerful and most extensive rhythmic electromagnetic field (many times more powerful than the brain) that interacts within the body and with the world around it. It is believed that the heart's electromagnetic field acts as a carrier wave for information that provides a global synchronizing signal for the entire body (literally tells all our cells in the body what to do). This perspective requires an energetic concept of information, in which patterns of organization are enfolded into waves of system activity distributed throughout the system as a whole. HeartMath Basic research at the Institute of HeartMath shows that information pertaining to a person's emotional state is also communicated throughout the body via the heart's electromagnetic field. The rhythmic beating patterns of the heart change significantly as we experience different emotions. Negative emotions, such as anger or frustration, are associated with an erratic, disordered, incoherent pattern in the heart's rhythms while positive emotions are associated with smooth, ordered, coherent rhythmic activity. Creating sustained positive heart coherence (psychophysiological coherence) is known to positively impact one's own health and well being physically, mentally and emotionally, as well as positively impacting those around them. At a physiological level, this mode is characterized by increased efficiency and harmony in the activity and interactions of the body's systems including the heart. Psychologically this mode is linked with a notable reduction in internal mental dialogue, reduced perceptions of stress, increased emotional balance, and enhanced mental clarity, intuitive discernment, and cognitive performance. In homeopathy, when considering a course of treatment for a client, we take into consideration not only the physical symptoms that may be exhibited but also consider what mental and emotional states may be contributing to any disease. The body is looked at as a whole where all components are interacting with each other and symptoms are considered

to be the body's way of dealing with a disease. Homeopaths believe that the only thing that can stop a symptom is the body's immune system itself; the body is responsible for the symptom and it alone can stop it permanently. However, disease develops when the immune system due to some malfunction is unable to overcome a disturbance to the body. Cause Unknown In most cases of disease the cause is unknown but the derangement in an individual can be identified by the symptoms the body expresses in reaction to the derangement. Even viral or bacterial infections are not considered to be the cause of disease but a symptom of some derangement of the body system. As these symptoms are the body's attempt to heal itself they need to be supported rather than opposed. Most diseases are considered by homeopaths to be caused by derangements in the body's energy fields which provide information to cells for them to carry out their functions. A cell whose function is impeded or altered due to faulty energy field information will cause the cell to malfunction and potentially impact the body system giving rise to disease. Derangement to the body at an energy field level (preceding the biochemical level) needs to be treated at an energy level in order for the body to heal itself. Treatment with chemical based medicines will at best suppress symptoms but will not induce the body to heal itself. Homeopathic medicines function at an energy level (due to their preparation) and can aid the body in healing itself. Colin Gillies is a homeopath in Qualicum, B.C.

Hawthorne for Healing the Heart In spring I love watching the beautiful Hawthorne

trees, also known as Crataegus, come into bloom. Although the white flowers are delicate and lovely to look at, try to bring them into your house and you'll quickly be repelled by the smell of rotting flesh or other unsavoury whiffs as they dry. These flowers attract wasps and flies as pollinators. It is not a surprise to me, however, as the Hawthorne is specific for things that are bloody, in particular the heart, the veins and the flow of blood through our body. It makes sense that the flowers would follow suit. This tree is one of my favorite healing friends. It has long been viewed as a sacred tree, a doorway to other dimensions or ways of being. All parts of the plant, berries, leaves and flowers, can be ingested. A few drops of the tincture or flower essence are specific for a broken heart, while regular doses of it through tea or tincture will slowly and thoroughly heal all physical heart and vein conditions. Just look at the plant when it is bare in the winter. The branches look like the web of capillaries that lace through our bodies. When the berries come in they range from bright red to black-red, and there

are the thorns that poke us and make us bleed. The leaves were called “bread and butter” at one time, as the peasants could eat them quite easily when they had nothing else to eat during the day. Considered an important tree, energetically, there are many superstitions around this plant and older cultures considered it unlucky, even dangerous, to cut one down. However, I find a certain welcoming exudes from it and draws me into its circle of friendship. This tree has been a friend to me during difficult and lonely times. Crataegus has drawn me into its shade and yielded up its leaves, flowers and berries for me to use in my own healing journey. It has been a doorway to many things for me, most particularly the portal to learning just how very capable the plants around me are of speaking to my heart and healing me. Essential Oils

Rose Oil Good for Healing

More than a beautiful flower with a nice aroma, the rose has many benefits. It’s the essential oil that has the most benefits. Considered the most beautiful flower in the world, rose essential oil is an antidepressant, antiphlogistic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, anti-bacterial, cholagogic, cicatrizant, depurative, emmenagogue, hemostatic, hepatic, laxative, nervine, stomachic, and a uterine substance. That’s just for starters. And it’s good for the skin. The essential oil is taken from the Damascus Rose, considered the most fragrant with the highest oil content. Roses, particularly the Damascus variety, are composed of hundreds of components. The major ones are citronellol, citral, carvone, citronellyl acetate, eugenol, ethanol, farnesol, stearpoten, methyl eugenol, nerol, nonanol, nonanal, phenylacetaldehyde, phenylmethyl acetate, and phenyl geraniol.

Anti-spasmodic The essential oil relieves muscle spasms as well as alieviating spasms in the respiratory system and intestines. It’s good for convulsions, muscle pulls and cramps. Dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin.

Aphrodisiac The rose has long been considered an aphrodisiac with its intoxicating aroma. It boosts the libido and can guard against sexual dysfunction such as erectile dysfunction, frigidity and general disinterest. It provokes romantic interest for a successful sex life. Anxiety Rose essential oil is very calming to the nervous system and a tonic. It protects against shock and disorders that arise from age and injuries. It boosts confidence and fights depression.

Astringent The essential oil can help fade acne, stretch marks and other scars. The anti-oxidant activity helps spur 12

the healing process. The essential oil can be diluted in witch hazel, which is also a natural astringent.

Blood and Bleeding Rose essential oil purifies the blood as it helps remove and neutralize toxins. This protects the body from boils, rashes, ulcers, and skin diseases. It can also protect against serious conditions that free radicals can cause like cancer and heart diseases. The oil is also useful for people who suffer from hemorrhaging (bleeding, external or internal) after an injury or surgery. It helps speed up clotting and coagulation of blood and stops excessive bleeding.

Digestion Rose oil soothes the stomach and calms inflammation. Massage the diluted oil onto the stomach to help it function properly and protects it from infections. It may also protects against ulcers which often develop due to overproduction and release of acids into the stomach. Excessive acid can lead to heartburn, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, excess gas, impacted bowels, and bloating. It helps women by stimulating the hormone secretions which trigger menstruation as it is particularly effective for those suffering from obstructed and irregular menses. It also eases cramps, nausea, and fatigue while reducing the pain associated with menstruation and Post-menopausal Syndrome. The oil keeps the liver strong and functioning well as it protects against bile flow, acids and ulcers.

Benefits of Colloidal ‘Gold’ ANTI-Inflammatory and MORE While Colloidal Gold does not have the same germicidal/anti-bacterial action of Colloidal Silver, Colloidal gold is thought to have powers as an anti-inflammatory and has been reported to be a glandular activator with life extension, raised brain function and I.Q. and Pineal enhancing (Third Eye) possibilities, (see Frontier Perspectives Journal, Vol 7, No 2, Fall 1998). In former times crushed gold particles was used to quell the cravings for alcohol and as a remedy for digestive disorders, circulatory problems, depression, obesity, and burns. Gold is a catalyst for endorphinlike hormones as well as the antioxidant enzyme SuperOxideDesmutase. Colloidal Gold in elemental metal form is tasteless and non-toxic. In Homeopathy and traditional Alchemy, a mixture of Silver and Gold was called Electrum. Electrum: This is a combination of Gold and Silver which has been used for thousands of years by ancient alchemists. Electrum was believed to have unusual powerful metaphysical properties to benefit the human body and mind. Electrum was often referred to as white gold in ancient times. Usually we mix 10 parts of silver water to one part of gold for cosmetic and human ingestion. It is more convenient to make it by first making colloidal silver water for about 4 hours, then changing the electrodes to gold and continuing the process. In this way the electrical charges mix at a monoatomic level resulting in a more effective Electrum product, having rejuvenation and other healing benefits. We have found that using the magnetic stirrer and high frequencies adds further to the effectiveness. Colloidal Gold - If metallic gold is divided into fine particles (sizes ranging from less than 1 nanometer up to 10 nm) and the particles are permanently suspended in solution, the mineral becomes known as Colloidal Gold and exhibits new properties due to the larger amount of gold surface area available and the Zeta Potential carried by each particle. Colloidal Gold was first prepared in a pure state in 1857 by the distinguished English chemist, Michael Faraday. Many uses were found for the amazing solutions of “activated gold.” In the nineteenth century, Colloidal Gold was commonly used in the United States to

cure alcoholism (then called dipsomania, defined as the uncontrollable craving for alcoholic liquors), and today it is used to reduce dependency on alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and carbohydrates. In the United States, as far back as 1885, gold had been known for its healing capabilities for the heart and improved blood circulation. And gold has been used to treat arthritis continuously since 1927. Europeans have long been aware of the benefits of gold in the system and have been buying gold-coated pills and ‘Gold Water’ over the counter for well over 100 years. In July of 1935, Clinical, Medicine & Surgeryhad an article entitled “Colloidal Gold in Inoperable Cancer” written by Edward H. Ochsner, M.D., B.S., F.A.C.S. which stated, “When the condition is hopeless, Colloidal Gold helps prolong life and makes life much more bearable, both to the patient and to those about them, because it shortens the period of terminal cachexia (general physical wasting and malnutrition usually associated with chronic disease) and greatly reduces pain, discomfort and the need of opiates (narcotics) in a majority of instances.”

Manuka Honey ‘Fakes’ Found in Lab Tests New Independent Lab Tests Show Some Manuka Honey Brands Fall Well Short Of Marketing Claims About Antibacterial Potency & Fail To Meet Exacting New Zealand Standards CARPINTERIA, CA., JANUARY 31, 2018 – New independent lab tests, reveal that some prominent brands routinely mislead consumers about their potency and fail to meet New Zealand's exacting manufacturing standards. The tests were commissioned by Pacific Resources International (PRI), the first company to import Manuka Honey to America more than 30 years ago, and conducted on behalf of England's respected Fera Science Limited – a century-old international center for interdisciplinary investigation and problem solving spanning the realms of plant and bee health, crop protection, sustainable agriculture, food and chemical safety in the environment. Determined to shed light on misleading marketing and labeling practices in the Manuka Honey category as this prized natural wonder takes hold in the U.S. marketplace, PRI requested that Fera test various products for their levels of methylglyoxal (MG) - the naturally-occurring antibacterial-rich property that sets Manuka Honey apart from traditional honeys. Since only Manuka Honey contains higher levels of MG (with non-Manuka honeys falling in the 0-5mg/ kg range), the presence of high MG numbers along with such important designations as UMF (Unique Manuka Factor), among other recognized designations, ensures that a given product is in fact genuine, antibacterial-rich Manuka Honey.

which are not recognized or approved by New Zealand's oversight authorities. Manuka Doctor 20+ - Sold at Sprouts and elsewhere, this product was found to have MG levels so low they didn't even register – suggesting it may not contain actual Manuka at all. Positive News The Fera Science tests, however, found: PRI 10+ (Pacific Resources International), which should have an MG of 75, actually registered at 93, and many other PRI products independently tested also met or exceeded required MG levels. In addition, Melora Manuka Honey likewise exceeded required levels by a good margin. New Zealand Says "Enough Is Enough!"

Buyer BEE-Ware! The test results show some of the top Manuka Honey products currently sold by such major U.S. retailers as Costco and Sprouts (and available through numerous other markets and online sites) contain far lower MG levels than their labels would suggest. Among the findings: Wedderspoon KFactor 16 - Found to have very low levels of the chemicals which give Manuka its unique properties with an MG level of about 45. What's more, Wedderspoon – along with several other brands – attempts to validate the purity and effectiveness of their products by relying on pollen counts such as "KFactor" 14 Herbal Collective Feb’18

Given the growing proliferation of misleading and outright fake Manuka Honey products on the global market today (some not even from New Zealand!), the New Zealand government has advised that new Manuka Honey labeling requirements for export will be enforced beginning February 5 of this year. The new regulations stipulate that all Manuka will be tested for four chemical markers and one DNA marker to ensure purity. New Zealand Agriculture Minister Damien O'Connor says, "This is an important step in safeguarding the value Continued page 17

Ayurveda Tips for Winter According to Ayurveda philosophy, winter is the best season to strengthen and improve immunity. Infections and colds are the results of a weak immune system. Viruses are seeds that look for fertile land, such as a weakened body, to take root. This season, let us adopt a routine that allows you to relish rather than resent the darkness and the quiet. Winter season also brings low temperatures, freezing rain and snow, a significant drop in humidity and dry cold winds in most parts of the country. These are all qualities shared by Kapha dosha, which is why winter could be considered a Kapha season in our beautiful British Columbia, but in rest of Canada where the climate is exceptionally cold and dry, Vata will also be a strong component to take into account.

5 Tips to improve Immunity and stay healthy this winter 1. Digestion Winter is the best season for building immunity as the digestion is strongest in cold weather. The body requires more fuel to stay warm and healthy in the winter months and the cold weather ignites digestive fires deep into the core of the body. Our bodies therefore crave a more substantial, nutritive diet at this time of year. The cold weather can decrease digestive Agni (fires) so we need to use spices to improve the digestion. One important Ayurvedic digestive formula is Trikatu which literally means the three pungent. Trikatu Churna is a fine powder blend of three hot and pungent herbs, ginger, black pepper and long pepper 16

to support digestion. Trikatu awakens digestion, digests toxins, alleviates coughs, nasal congestions and asthma and improves breathing. It balances Kapha and Vata.

2. Massage Our skin, the organ that acts as a barrier between our bodies and the external environment, generally takes the brunt of the harsh weather. Winter is actually the best time of year to nourish the skin, because it is dryer and more receptive in winter. The skin is less absorbent in warmer weather as it is in detoxifying mode. Daily Abhayanga with Kapha Oil or Dhanvantara oil will keep our skin healthy and vibrant whole winter. Padmashri Kapha Oil is a classical oil called Karpooradi Tailam. It is prepared with Kapha reducing herbs like Ajwain, Arjuna, Cardamom and Camphor. Dhanvatara Oil is a potent earthy oil containing 28 herbs like Ashwagandha, Triphala, Bala and fenugreek. It rejuvenates the body and skin and increases immunity

3. Diet At the first sign of a cold or flu take extra measures. Get plenty of rest, slow down and listen to your body. Your recovery time will be shorter. Drink lots of warm water or herbal teas to help flush toxins from the lungs. Eat wholesome, nutritious, easily digestible foods such as cooked leafy green vegetables, fresh fruits and vegetable soups. Avoid heavy foods like meat, dairy, oils, nut butters and sweets. Ayurvedic medicine suggests Anu tailam for nasya therapy for congested nose and sinuses. Anu tailam

improves sense of smell, clears sinuses and strengthens muscles and joints of face and neck.

4. Lifestyle Immune boosting lifestyle with yoga and exercise: An invigorating and expansive yoga practice this winter can be surprisingly supportive of your overall wellbeing. Taking up a winter-specific activity might help replace the feelings of winter blues. We're often less active in winter time. Yet exercise is a known mood enhancer, raising the brain's levels of serotonin and endorphin. Sports such as skiing, snowboarding and ice skating provide that much-needed adrenaline rush that we can't get from couch surfing, with the added bonus of two of the greatest natural mood elevators: exercise and the great outdoors.

5. Herbal Support In keeping with the guidelines of Ayurvedic classical formulations, the pharmacological and phytochemists team at Sewanti Ayurvedic series has combined the healing properties of Holy Basil in synergy with other important Ayurvedic herbs to enhance bioavailability of Holy Basil and stimulate its activity in the formulation. These herbs include Ashwagandha, Karanja, Chitraka, Amalaki and Haridra. Holy Basil Plus helps to strengthen the digestive fire, balance the production of mucus and enhance the bioavailability and circulation of vital nutrients. â–ŞHoly Basil, or Tulsi, holds most supreme place among the various medicinal herbs in India perhaps next to Lotus. Its healing properties are so well established that most people in India grow it in courtyards and traditionally worshipped daily in a ritual for the well being of the family. Holy Basil has specified actions on the respiratory system. It effectively liquefies the phlegm due to its hot and sharp attributes. Holy basil is an effective panacea for cough due to allergic bronchitis asthma and eosinophilia. Since time immemorial Holy basil is used as a treatment for a nasal inflammation and bronchitis. Due to the anti allergic property of Holy basil, it provides protective effect against allergic diseases.

The Magic Of Manuka As Manuka Honey continues to gain in popularity throughout the Western world, savvy consumers are discovering what so many people in New Zealand and beyond have long known: Manuka honey adds life, purity and natural goodness to everything it touches. Rich in hydrogen peroxide and other antibiotic properties not found in any other honey in the world, Manuka Honey today is used to treat wounds, soothe throats, promote gastrointestinal health, minimize acne and prevent tooth decay. And if all that wasn't enough, it's also a deliciously nutritious ingredient when cooking or baking as well! Today, the company offers a wide range of Manuka Honey products, including Chocolates, Caramels and Nuggets, as well as pure Pacific Sea Salt from the still-pristine waters off New Zealand. Determined to remain on the cutting edge of Manuka purity and maintain its longstanding commitment to complete transparency, after February 5, PRI will also supply the new Government test along with a COA for every jar of Manuka Honey imported from New Zealand for consumer assurance.

Wellness Show in Vancouver Mid-February It's time to look to the future with fresh energy with the Wellness Show. For the past 26 years, The Wellness Show has been on the cutting edge of the latest health and wellness trends, bringing them to the residents of the Lower Mainland. This year's show takes place February 16 and 17, 2018, at the Vancouver Convention Centre. There are some pretty cool new exhibitors and speakers this year, Lori Joyce: you may remember her as half of the Cupcake Girls, but Lori has now started a line of traceable Ice Creams called BetterWith. She'll be speaking on a panel at the show entitled Women Empowering Women. Diane Bernard, "The Seaweed Lady:" this local has started the world's first line of organic seaweed skincare, harvested from our beaches right here in BC. Tammy Jacobsen: as a professional athlete, Tammy was no stranger to aches and pains, so after she retired from gymnastics, she created a line of wraps and pillows infused with lavender to help to ease aching joints and muscles. Table Tennis: all the kids are doing it! Sure, when we were growing up, we called it ping pong, but Table Tennis has really taken its place in the World spotlight over the last few years. This fun sport improves hand-eye coordination, develops your reflexes, and burns 272 calories per hour! We can 18
