TWELVE DAYS –COUNTLESS MEMORIES
Deep into the fjords and far out to sea.
Experience everyday life along the coast and celebrate festive occasions in Norwegian nature.
More than 1,000 fjords and 200,000 islands make up the world’s second-longest coastline. The coastal round-trip route from Bergen to Kirkenes and back will provide many new experiences. The mountains are immutable, but the weather and the light change constantly, transforming the colours and appearance of the landscape. Here you will encounter soft grey mists, crackling green Northern Lights or the soft, golden midnight sun. Along the coast, tiny fishing villages shelter from the fierce Atlantic breakers, while larger coastal towns nestle in the narrow spaces between the wild mountains and the rolling sea. Sometimes, the most memorable experiences come from the people who live there. See the quayside embraces when locals return from their voyages. At other times, memories are made by the sight of mighty mountainous massifs, the expanse of the sea, or the salt-laden tang of the bracing sea air.
Experiences await too in the ports, coastal towns and their surrounding areas. How about an eagle safari? Fancy dog sledging under the Northern Lights? And you’ll never forget the taste of the sweet, delicate white meat from the king crab that you hauled up from the depths.

NORTHBOUND COASTAL VOYAGE
Whether you’re going on the entire round trip or enjoying just part of it, new adventures await you every day.
DAY 1
PORT: BERGEN
Our voyage starts in Bergen, the capital of western Norway. Here you can see the colourful, UNESCO-listed warehouses in Bryggen, the historic harbour district. Take the funicular railway, Fløibanen, up to one of the lookout points, sample the seafood at the fish market or take a stroll through the narrow streets and along the quays of the lively harbour. Bergen is the gateway to the Norwegian fjords and the start of your coastal adventure.
After the first night on board, you can start your day by waving to the Havila Voyages headquarters just off Torvik. Ålesund’s architecture is an art nouveau delight with beautiful brick houses and warehouses, rebuilt after the fire of 1904. In the summer, you can continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the majestic Geiranger Fjord, with its steepling mountainsides and dramatic waterfalls.
DAY 3
PORTS: KRISTIANSUND–TRONDHEIM–RØRVIK
It is morning when we dock in the historic city of Trondheim, with its colourful cobbled pedestrian streets. Founded more than 1,000 years ago, the city is home to Nidaros Cathedral, Norway's national shrine and one of the largest cathedrals in northern Europe. Check out the 18th century wooden wharves lined up along the Nidelva river. After our visit here, the voyage continues out into the fjord towards northern Norway.
On this stretch, we mark crossing the Arctic Circle with a ceremony and continue into the Arctic regions. That means midnight sun in the summer, or darker winter days and nights, with the possibility of Northern Lights in the evenings. The power of nature is everywhere. You’ll see northern Scandinavia's largest glacier, the world's strongest tidal current and the home of the majestic sea eagle. In the evening, Lofoten fishing villages, steep mountains and Vikings in helmets await.
The voyage continues through narrow fjords and past wild mountains to Tromsø, a city associated with hunting and fishing, polar expeditions and raw courage. It’s an area steeped in history. People have lived in this uncompromising climate since the end of the Ice Age. We have also reached the land of the Sami, Norway's indigenous people. Meeting the Sami and their reindeer and learning about Sami culture is a unique and memorable experience.
This is as far north as you can get — by land or sea. For many, the visit to the North Cape is a high point and a goal for voyages along the Norwegian coast. Up here in the polar landscape, nature is at its harshest and most desolate. But between bare plains and rugged cliffs people cling on and reap nature's bounty. You can also have a taste of the catch. Anybody fancy some king crab? You’ll never taste fresher.
DAY 7
PORTS: BÅTSFJORD–VARDØ–VADSØ - KIRKENES
You are now as far east on your voyage as you can go. The border with Russia is only a few kilometres away, and the road signs in Kirkenes are in Norwegian and Russian. You can venture right up to the border on one of our excursions, or how about a visit to the Snowhotel where everything is made of ice and snow?
We turn the ship around, and the polar landscape changes as we sail west and south again. The great expanses are replaced by steep peaks, and in the evening we sail into Tromsø. You can go to a midnight concert in the Arctic Cathedral, or take a stroll in the midnight sun or under the Northern Lights and explore the nightlife of the city dubbed The Paris of the North.
We return to the wild, idyllic Lofoten Islands. Beneath the jagged mountains lie chalk-white beaches and villages with a vibrant fishing industry. The locals use the coastal ships for everyday trips and transportation. If the weather permits, we will enter the narrow Trollfjord, home to the Sea Eagle. These majestic birds of prey are a common sight, and easily spotted with their eight-foot wingspan.
DAY 10
PORTS: BODØ–ØRNES–SANDNESSJØEN–BRØNNØYSUND–RØRVIK
At this point, we will have come so far south that we will be crossing the Arctic Circle and sailing away from the polar night and the sunlit nights. But you can still see the Northern Lights in the winter, and it is never completely dark during the summer. Here you sail past a myriad of small islands, islets and skerries and past the legendary mountain, Torghatten, which has a hole in the middle. If you wish, you can also join us for a walk on the mountain and enter the cavern.
DAY 11
PORTS: TRONDHEIM–KRISTIANSUND–MOLDE–ÅLESUND
We sail through the wide Trondheim fjord bounded by rolling farmland on both sides and return to the coast and the open sea. You can disembark in Kristiansund and travel along the Atlantic Ocean Road, perhaps the world's most beautiful drive. The road meanders along islets and skerries, and afterwards you can re-embark in Molde.
DAY 12
PORTS: TORVIK–MÅLØY–FLORØ–BERGEN
The last day of the tour takes you through a diverse coastal landscape of bare rocky mountains and a maze of sounds and waterways between numerous islands. The great fjords and glaciers are situated inland. Bergen awaits at the end of the voyage. We hope you leave with many good memories of your time on the Norwegian coast with Havila Voyages, and we look forward to welcoming you back on board again.

BIG IMPRESSIONS WITH A SMALLER CARBON FOOTPRINT
The origins of Havila Voyages grew from the land and people of Norway, and a respect for the environment.
It begins with a young boy called Per Sævik. His family lived at the far end of the coast of Sunmør, and he was one of nine children. His father was a fisherman, skipper and shipowner. At the age of twelve, Per earned his first wages through fishing. He worked hard and bought his first boat just a few years later. This was the start of the Havila Group, which currently employs several thousand workers. The name Havila comes from the Biblical Havilah, a place associated with the Garden of Eden, and endowed with gold.
The landscape of Norway shapes its people. Out by the coast, you are as close to nature as possible. There are windswept knolls, fierce storms and unpredictable fishing. This makes its people strong and independent – and they learn to see new opportunities.
GOOD PEOPLE AND GOOD SHIPS
For Per, it has always been about ships and crews and about life on and by the sea. Havila’s home port is the small coastal town of Fosnavåg, where the Group has its head office and Havila Voyages is based.
A FANTASTIC JOURNEY FOR EVERYONE
Havila harvests natural resources. That’s why sustainability and the environment are important. Havila Voyages has invested several hundred million Norwegian kroner in the most eco-friendly passenger ships on the voyage between Bergen and Kirkenes. The aim is to ensure that Havila Voyages and its passengers have the least possible impact on the environment.
Per Sævik puts it like this: “Our voyages bring us through a world heritage area as well as vulnerable natural areas. Those who come after us should be able to enjoy this natural heritage in the same way.”
