WELCOME © LIEBING MAGDALENA

The Northern Lights Promise exists because we are so confident that you will see the lights with us, but also because we want to give any disappointed customers the chance to catch the aurora again. We are proud of the fact that such disappointment is rare. For last year's auroral season, fewer than 1% of our guests claimed a free voyage on the Northern Lights Promise, which means 99% of our 12-day voyages during that period were treated to displays of the aurora. That's a pretty impressive statistic, and as close as anyone can get to a guarantee.

A free voyage if the aurora borealis doesn't occur is a bold offer, one that only Hurtigruten can make because of our famous route; taking you along the Norwegian coast, under the Auroral Zone, and departing every day throughout the auroral season.

—125 years of new horizons

THE ORIGINAL PIONEERS

NORWAY'S NORTHERN LIGHTS 2019/20

H

urtigruten started life over 125 years ago, pioneering the original Norwegian coastal route, transporting people, freight and post from port to port and creating a lifeline for the communities it served – and still does today. Hurtigruten embodies the spirit of exploration, a love of the outdoors, and a deep respect for nature. Just as our founder Captain Richard With opened up new routes, we have ventured far beyond home.

Our fleet of 14 ships now brings our guests to some of the world’s most remote and untouched destinations including Svalbard, Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland and the Northwest Passage, offering experiences focused on nature, culture and authentic exploration. However far the horizons we explore though, our heritage, hearts, and home remain rooted along the Norwegian coast.

MAKING POSITIVE WAVES

O

ur desire to travel, explore and experience new things is as natural as the air we breathe. But we understand that doing so can have an impact. Our goal is to make ours a positive one, by travelling in the most ethical way possible. We have already banned polluting heavy fuel oil, even advocating an international ban. Now, we are the first company in the industry to tackle the problem of plastic.

A GREENER FLEET Millions are being invested in state-ofthe-art technology to ensure Hurtigruten has one of the greenest fleets in travel by 2021. We will be launching the world’s first battery hybrid-powered expedition ships MS Roald Amundsen in 2019 and MS Fridtjof Nansen in 2020. Our partnership with Rolls-Royce will also extend to retrofitting nine of our current ships, enabling them to run on dual LNG and battery power.

single use plastics

BAN ON SINGLE-USE PLASTIC Plastic pollution is the single biggest threat to our oceans. We are proud to be the first cruise operator in the world to ban all single-use plastic from our fleet. In July 2018, a fleet-wide initiative saw the removal of all unnecessary single-use plastic, replacing them with reusable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly alternatives.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY As Norway’s largest maritime apprenticeship, we are a major employer along the Norwegian coast. This builds strong relationships with local communities, which in turn enriches the guest experience. At times, passengers on board are invited to join beach cleanups together with local groups. © EDITH FLAKK

For the past 80 years, our Captains and crew have been gathering valuable scientific data on sea temperature and the migration patterns and seasonal habitats of wildlife in the Arctic. We also run similar studies in Antarctica.

© ANNE MARTE JOHNSEN; MAIN IMAGE LEFT: © HURTIGRUTEN

WORKING TOGETHER Resisting mass tourism in vulnerable areas is an important part of our philosophy. We are founding members of organisations like the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) and International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO). These collectives advocate for safe and environmentally responsible travel in the polar regions, creating guidelines that put these pristine habitats first.

© CHRISTIAN HOUGE

We are deeply committed to sustainable cuisine that supports local producers. Our Norway’s Coastal Kitchen concept supports over 70 small-scale local suppliers along the coast. This not only minimises food miles, but also reduces food packaging and food waste, and provides valuable jobs and income.

And our extensive range of optional seasonal excursions have been specially curated so you can interact more closely with Norway’s nature and culture.

YOUNG EXPLORER Children are not left out of the experience. A dedicated host on board MS Finnmarken, which also has a swimming pool, takes children between 7-13 years old through a daily schedule of free activities. They will learn all about local wildlife, customs, food, great explorers, and how to care for our environment.

On a Hurtigruten voyage, you won’t experience Norway at arm’s length. You will be sailing alongside Norwegians who also use our ships to travel along the coast. Hurtigruten’s unique connection with local communities immerses you in Norwegian life and culture as you call on the 34 ports between Bergen in the south and Kirkenes in the Arctic north. It opens up more first-hand encounters, and the chance to interact with your surroundings, as you discover the real Norwegian coast.

EXPEDITION TEAMS Our Expedition Teams are dedicated to enriching your travel experience. They bring the Norwegian coast to life by providing a personal perspective. All our ships have an Expedition Leader and team members who are specialists on nature, guiding, culture and history, many of whom grew up on the coast. They will be your hosts on board, and can be found around the ship presenting lectures, running Canon-certified photography programmes, guiding on deck or telling stories over a drink at evening gatherings. Passionate about their subjects, they relish answering your questions and sharing their knowledge with you in an informal and social setting.

NATURE AND CULTURE GUIDE

Growing up on a small farm facing the sea on Norway’s coast instilled in me a passion for adventure and exploring the outdoors. I hold a university degree in Friluftsliv (outdoor nature life, culture and nature guiding). My education and knowledge cover many diverse activities such as climbing, kayaking, canoeing, free skiing, glacier guiding and general outdoor activities in all seasons and all weather. I have been a part of the Hurtigruten Expedition Team since 2017 as a nature and culture guide.

ach one of our excursions is carefully chosen and curated to enhance your experience of ‘the world’s most beautiful voyage’. Optional and prebookable, these seasonal activities add a new dimension to your journey, bringing you off the ship and taking you closer to the charming culture, wildlife, and stunning landscapes Norway is famous for. Each time you come back on board after an excursion, you’ll have new special memories to share and cherish forever. There is a word of warning though: the most popular excursions tend to get snapped up quickly! Our advice: decide which ones you want to do and book early. That way, you can avoid any dreaded ‘excursion envy’ during your voyage.

CULTURE BUFFS Norway is a historical treasure trove and many of our excursions will help you unravel its rich tapestry. For example, we take you to meet a welcoming indigenous Sámi family in their lavvo tent where you’ll learn about the traditions being kept alive today, such as joik folk singing and reindeer herding. Experience how the Vikings once lived and feasted, or tour the hallowed halls of Nidaros, the medieval cathedral in

THE GREAT OUTDOORS If you’re someone who loves being out in nature, then you’ll feel right at home Norway, not least because of its stunning fjords and mountains. If a walking tour of Trondheim seems too pedestrian for you, kayak along the River Nid for a whole new perspective. Don’t wait for dinner to be served. Instead, catch your own king crab on an ice fishing safari. Forget the coach. Cross the snowy tundra by snowmobile, dog sled, or even snowshoe. Conquer mountains on hardy winter hikes, walking up for views made all the more spectacular by the Northern Lights.

DAY 5

DAY 6

Enjoy drinks at the Panorama Bar where you meet one of the Expedition Team members who introduces you to the Norwegian philosophy of friluftsliv: the love of the outdoors. You’ll fully appreciate this concept by the end of the voyage!

Join a brisk kayaking tour of Ålesund (2K). It’s great to get out onto the water. The houses lining the river are very charming. Back on the ship, take a soak in the hot tub, looking up at the stars.

Take the guided walking tour around the royal city of Trondheim and visit Nidaros Cathedral, a national icon (3B). Trondheim is one of Norway’s largest cities, and there are lots of lovely cafés and boutique shops to peruse.

You are officially in the Arctic! You feel up for a bracing Arctic coastal walk (4B). Take a moment to look down on Bodø and the surrounding fjords from high up in the mountains, breathing in the crisp, fresh air.

Spend the day relaxing, watching the stunning coastline out on deck. This evening, the Northern Lights make their appearance during a sailing aboard a vintage schooner (5K), one of Hurtigruten’s most romantic excursions.

A bus takes you to the North Cape at the edge of the European continent (6A). It’s a profound moment that gives you goosebumps. This evening, the Northern Lights appear twice. This really is the Auroral Zone.

You can’t come to the Arctic and not try dogsledding (7D)! Fall in love with the boisterous huskies. Mushers will lead, allowing you to just sit back and enjoy the ride. Now you understand what friluftsliv really means.

Wake up to beautiful views and walk around Hammerfest before an epic snowmobiling trip (8F). Feel the adrenalin rush as you drive across the tundra under the fifth Northern Lights display in four days.

Sailing through Lofoten is dreamy. Take it all in up on deck and listen to the Expedition Team give lectures. You could happily stay on board, but the prospect of seeing Lofoten on horseback is just too tempting. (9B)

You spend today chatting with other guests and swapping stories of different excursions. You’ve indulged because of the fantastic food, so it’s time to hit the onboard gym before a soothing sauna session.

DAY 11

Visit Bergtatt marble mines (11E). The boat ride into the mine is surreal but impressive. Lots of people gather at the Panorama Bar on this last night to look out on the views with new friends and share happy memories.

DAY 12 Explore a bit of Bergen before heading to the airport for your flight home. Many choose to take the funicular up to Mount Fløyen, but you decide to walk up. The view of the sunset beyond the snowy mountains is breathtaking.

Hjørundfjord – A Hidden Gem

Situated among the pristine nature of the majestic Sunnmøre Alps and populated with tiny hamlets and mountain farms, Hjørundfjord is widely regarded as a national treasure. This jewel of a fjord, however, is something of a secret, left out of many tourist routes. Romanesque Gothic Cathedral

Construction of the enormous sanctuary of the Nidaros Cathedral started as far back as the 1100s. Built over the burial place of St. Olav, the patron saint of Norway, it is the only church in Norway built in the Gothic style.

DAY 4 Brønnøysund–Svolvær

Welcome to the Arctic Crossing the Arctic Circle

Svolvær Stamsund

LOFOTEN

Today, we officially enter the Arctic as we pass the invisible border at 66 degrees 33 minutes north. To mark the occasion, we celebrate with a genuine Arctic Circle Crossing baptism, for those brave enough to take a bit of ice water down their back! The chances of Northern Lights occurrences are also higher above this line and, weather permitting, you can look forward to sightings of Norway’s Arctic aurora.

Safe Harbours

You find ‘rorbuer’ dotted at the water’s edge all along the coast, often built atop sturdy timber piles. These fisherman’s cabins are reminders of a time past, when exhausted fishermen hauled their boats up at the wharf, offloaded their

fishing gear, and spent the night in the cabin out from the cold. Many of these cabins now serve as cosy cafés and tiny restaurants, or are rented out for tranquil views of the fjords.

Scene for Sea Eagles

Bodø is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, with a lively music and arts and crafts scene. Situated south of the Børvasstindan mountain range and Bodømarka forest, this vibrant city also has the densest population of whitetailed sea eagles in the world, which are still active in the winter season. Head to nearby Mount Rønvik for views down across Bodø, the peninsula, and the outlying islands.

The Seven Sisters

The sisters are in fact seven beautiful mountain peaks along the Helgeland Coast, each between 900 and 1,100 metres high. According to legend, these mountains were created when seven troll sisters turned to stone because they forgot to hide from the sun. Whatever their origin, these sisters certainly make the Helgeland coastline one of the most beautiful in the world.

The name comes from the traditional practice of drying the cod outdoors, often on cliffs and other bare rock faces. These fish racks can be seen all along the coast during your voyage.

DAY 12 Ålesund–Bergen

Voyage Finale Journey's End

Glacial Nordfjord

Picturesque Nordfjord sits below mainland Europe's largest glacier, Jostedals glacier. Here, the rugged coastal areas make a striking contrast to the inner fjord areas. Fertile fruit gardens and the fingers of glaciers stretch towards glistening lakes and gushing rapids.

The world’s most beautiful voyage is drawing to a close, but before we dock back in Bergen, there are still a few nautical miles of dramatic scenery ahead.

It's sadly time to say goodbye to the Captain and crew as the ship returns to Bergen. Depending on your flight time home, you might want to take a last stroll around this city, sample some fish soup at the market, or pick up some souvenirs at Bryggen wharf.

practical Information Before you go CORRESPONDENCE If you make your booking through a travel agent, all communication between you and Hurtigruten will be via that agent. If you book your holiday directly with us, all correspondence will be sent to the Lead Passenger. When you or your agent first contact us, we will usually confirm your holiday at the earliest opportunity and advise current flight times and prices, including any applicable supplements or extras, etc. For high season dates, when demand is greater, or if you book within eight weeks of departure, we may have to request your cabin, flight or hotel space and it may take slightly longer to confirm your holiday. An invoice will be sent to confirm your arrangements. If you are travelling with friends but would each like to receive separate documents, please advise us at the time of booking. Travel documents are generally sent approximately 7–14 days prior to departure.

EXCURSIONS We recommend pre-booking excursions to avoid disappointment. You can prebook excursions up to four weeks prior to departure (2 weeks if paid by credit card) at the rates presented. Any remaining excursion places will be sold on board. All bookings on board will be charged in Norwegian Kroner at the ship’s exchange rate. The price in local currency may differ due to exchange rate fluctuations.

MOBILITY We happily welcome passengers who are not fully mobile, and all ships (except MS Lofoten) have at least one cabin equipped for travellers using a wheelchair. Our sales consultants will also try to book appropriate hotel rooms. Passengers who use a wheelchair must bring their own standard size, foldable chair. Guests who are able to navigate around the ship unaided in a wheelchair do not need to have a travel companion. Those who need assistance may need to be accompanied. Please discuss with your booking agent. When the ship stops at ports on the Norwegian coast, there is a ramp or gangway

for embarkation/ disembarkation. Excursions have not been adapted specifically for passengers with walking difficulties. Please contact us or the Tour Leader when you are on board and they will be able to advise which excursions are suitable. It is essential you advise us of special requirements at the time of booking to enable us to make the necessary arrangements for you.

MINIMUM NUMBERS Some of our packaged voyages are subject to a minimum number of participants to enable them to take place. Should the minimum not be reached, we will advise you at least 60 days prior to your departure, when we reserve the right to cancel the holiday. We reserve the right to cancel the holiday and to refund all monies paid to us. Alternatively, you may choose another holiday with us, but if the alternative arrangement is at an additional cost, the difference will be payable by you.

DIETARY REQUESTS/ FOOD INTOLERANCE Special diets, e.g. vegetarian can be catered for if requested in good time. Passengers on strict diets may find that there is a limited choice. We now offer a 3-course vegan menu option for the evening meal.

VACCINATIONS At the time of printing this brochure, there are no compulsory vaccinations or health requirements for travelling to Norway. It is however the responsibility of all passengers to ensure they comply with any health requirements at the time of travel. We suggest you consult your doctor or relevant health authorities about any precautions you should take with regard to Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

On your way PASSPORT All guests have to present a passport with a validity of six months to enter Norway.

CURRENCY We suggest that you take a small amount of local currency (Norwegian Kroner–

NOK) in cash. Major credit cards are widely accepted, except possibly at smaller businesses.

TOUR ARRANGEMENTS Most of the voyages in this brochure are based on independent travel; however, all ships and many of our featured hotels have staff who can advise you on excursions and offer general assistance. Some of our packaged voyages are part-escorted.

FLIGHT INFORMATION All non-charter flights booked with us to and from Norway are in Economy Class with one of our airline partners: KLM/Air France, Lufthansa, Norwegian Air Shuttle, SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) and Widerøe. Please note that direct flights are not always available and you might connect via Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm or Amsterdam. Depending on the flight operator, flight connection and booked class of carriage, there may be a surcharge for the connecting flight you require, even in Economy Class. Flight arrivals and departures can be early morning or late evening but they are always aligned with your travel arrangement. Depending on the flight operator, snacks and drinks may be included in your Economy Class booking or purchased for a fee. Generally, one piece of hand luggage weighing 6-8 kg is allowed on board the plane. Please check airline websites carefully for more information about the meals on board and the weight and size of your hand luggage. Usually your check-in luggage is restricted to one piece weighing up to 23 kg, although this may change depending on the air connection. You will receive any flight details you have booked through Hurtigruten together with your travel documents. Please note that rebooking or changing a flight ticket before your voyage may be possible for a charge of GBP 60. A rebooking or refund after the start of your journey is not possible.

TRANSFERS Transfers are included as shown and are usually unaccompanied. When embarking and disembarking in Bergen, Trondheim and Kirkenes, Hurtigruten offers bus transfers from the airport to the pier and some hotels, and from the airport to the city centre in Oslo and Tromsø. In Bergen and Trondheim, we offer bus transfers to

and from the railway station and dock. The transfers are operated via chartered buses (at fixed times) or the official Airport Express bus (official schedule). The fixed times comply with the daily ship arrival and departure times, so waiting times at the airport are possible. The airport transfer takes between 20 and 45 minutes, depending on the city. You will receive our arrival/departure handbook containing all transfer times with your travel documents. For our Platinum fare guests, we provide an exclusive private transfer in Bergen and Trondheim from the airport to the ship or hotel and vice versa. For guests who are not fully mobile, we can arrange wheelchair-accessible transfers in Bergen and Trondheim on request.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION The standard of the hotels we use is equivalent to 3 or 4-star, and centrally located. There is no official hotel rating system in Norway. All rooms have private facilities (except for the Snowhotel in Kirkenes). Single rooms may be smaller and less conveniently situated, may be double rooms for sole occupancy or purposebuilt single rooms. Hotels may charge for some facilities e.g. saunas. The price per night normally includes breakfast, unless otherwise stated on your confirmation.

NORWEGIAN NATIONAL RAILROAD (NSB) Hurtigruten offers pre- and post-voyage packages that include train rides between Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim. The train departures comply with your booked travel assignment. On the train ticket provided with your travel documents, you will find information about your booked train class and seat reservation. You can find timetable information at www.nsb.no

Coming aboard EMBARKATION In Bergen, Hurtigruten ships sail from the Hurtigruten Terminal, Nøstegaten 30, N-5010 Bergen. Taxi drivers will understand if you ask to be taken to the Hurtigruten Terminal and it is sign-posted

as such locally. There are restaurant facilities in the terminal and passengers are free to explore Bergen until embarkation time. Luggage lockers are available in the terminal at a charge. The terminal is staffed and open for luggage check-in from 13:00 hrs. Passenger check-in begins at 15:00 hrs and embarkation takes place from 16:00 hrs. Cabins are available from 18:00 hrs. The ship will depart Bergen at 22:30 hrs, except from 1 Jun – 31 Oct when it will depart at 20:00 hrs.

DISEMBARKING Whenever our ships stop at the 34 ports along the Norwegian coast, you are free to disembark the ship. However, please take care that you are back on board on time, especially if your ship arrives with a delay but departs on time to keep to the schedule. The departure time will always be clearly displayed at the gangway. Please note that ships cannot wait for late passengers. If you miss your ship, you will need to arrange transport by yourself and at your own expense to the next harbour. When checking out for final disembarkation in Bergen, luggage will be delivered to the baggage belt in the terminal. On the last day of your voyage, you will be asked to vacate your cabin a few hours before disembarkation. Information regarding luggage handling and disembarkation at other ports is available when on board.

When on board SAFETY It is a safety requirement that all Hurtigruten passengers attend a compulsory safety briefing in Bergen and Kirkenes before the ship leaves port. The briefing is compulsory for all passengers including those who have travelled with Hurtigruten before. The time of the safety briefing will be announced on the day. It will take place on the first floor of the terminal building where our crew will greet you and conduct the mandatory safety brief at intervals. This will last between 10-15 minutes. The briefing will include a demonstration of how to put on a life jacket and the instructions to be followed in the unlikely event of an evacuation or other emergency during the voyage. There will be an

opportunity to ask questions if you have any concerns. Please familiarise yourself with the emergency procedures as shown in the cabins (there is a diagram on the cabin door and in public areas), and ask at reception if in doubt. In many ports, there may be a good deal of activity on the quay with cars joining/leaving the ships and/or goods being loaded or unloaded. Please be alert to such traffic when embarking and disembarking. Take care during winter months when it is icy underfoot, particularly on the outside decks and when disembarking the ship or alighting from coaches.

CHANGES TO THE ITINERARY AND EXCURSIONS All routes and excursions are provisional and subject to change – weather and sea conditions may affect the itinerary. Excursions may also be subject to minimum/maximum numbers.

LANGUAGES Norwegian and English are the official onboard languages.

GRATUITY POLICY As we are a Norwegian company, it is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten ships on the coastal voyage, but if you feel that crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, tip boxes are placed in the restaurant together with envelopes.

CABINS For guests travelling on a Select or Platinum fare on a 12-day voyage, you will be able to choose a cabin grade and cabin number at no extra charge (subject to availability). The cabin number for guests travelling BergenKirkenes or Kirkenes-Bergen on a Select fare is available for a fee. For guests on a Basic fare, your cabin grade and number will be assigned to you at the on-board check-in. Please note that cabins on decks with passenger access to outside areas may sometimes have an obstructed view due to other passengers walking past. Our ships function as working ships calling at ports around the clock. You may experience some noise and vibration in

some cabins during docking and loading of goods. This varies depending on the location of your cabin and the type of ship. Please ask our reservations team for advice on the best cabin location for you.

MEALS Our voyages are full board, with meals made from locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast is usually served from 07:30 hrs (open seating) and consists of a good selection of cold meats, cheeses, eggs, cereals and fruit, with freshly baked bread, pastries and often ‘sveler’ and ‘waffles’ freshly cooked in the restaurant. Lunch consists of a mixture of buffets and set menus, usually served from 12.00 (open seating). Dinner is usually served from 18.00. A buffet dinner is served in the evening of departure from Bergen, with free seating. On evenings with fixed seatings, guests with a Select or Platinum fare can request their preferred dining time when booking, although this may be subject to availability. Guests on a Basic fare will be assigned their dining time at check-in on board. For those guests not on a Platinum fare but who wish to enjoy an enhanced dining experience, we offer Norway’s Coastal Kitchen’s à la carte menu available for a small additional charge on all ships except MS Lofoten, MS Vesterålen and MS Spitsbergen. In addition, the cafes and bakeries on board our ships offer hot and cold drinks and snacks (charged). Opening hours are advised on board.

ACTIVITIES ON BOARD/ EXPEDITION TEAMS All Hurtigruten ships (except MS Vesterålen and MS Lofoten) along the Norwegian coast, have an Expedition Team who undertake activities on board and out on deck like lectures and presentations and on-deck guiding, designed with relevance to the season we are sailing in. These are included in your voyage price and are optional for guests to attend. The Expedition Team also advises on and sells excursions, issues a daily programme and news bulletin, and makes announcements regarding places of interest, noteworthy ports etc. On board MS Vesterålen and MS Lofoten, this service will be carried out by the Tour Leader or by Reception.

ELECTRIC CURRENT The sockets used on board (and throughout Norway) are 220v AC, two-pin Continentaltypes for which an adapter is required for UK appliances. Guests are advised to bring their own adapters with them on the voyage.

INTERNET We have wireless internet available on board for a small charge, unless already included in your Select or Platinum fare. Please ask for more information at the onboard reception.

LAUNDRY Laundry rooms with washing machines, dryers and irons are available on all ships. Tokens can be purchased at reception.

ENVIRONMENT We have drastically reduced single-use plastic on board and encourage our guests to do the same. For example, instead of multiple disposable plastic bottles, just one refillable water bottle is all that is needed. Garbage sorting and recycling is standard practice aboard all ships. Guests are also kindly asked to turn off lights when leaving their cabin and unplug any electrical transformers when not in use. Whenever we are near wildlife, please heed the advice of your Tour Leader/Expedition Leader and excursion guides, and strive to act in a way that does not interfere with the wildlife’s natural behaviour.

or disembarking the ship at the Hurtigruten Terminal in Bergen, you will need to carry your own luggage on and off the ship at all other ports.

SHOP All our ships have a shop carrying a selection of high quality Norwegian products. There is also a small selection of toiletries available for purchase. On MS Lofoten, this service is handled by the cafeteria.

SMOKING Smoking is only permitted in designated areas on the outside decks. Smoking is strictly forbidden when the ships are in port and fuelling and the staff will advise when such times are.

STABILISERS With the exception of MS Lofoten, all of our vessels are equipped with stabilisers.

MOBILE PHONES Private mobile phones may be used on board although reception may vary. Check with your provider for costs when using your phone abroad.

POLAR NIGHTS The Polar Night occurs when the night lasts for more than 24 hours. This only occurs inside the polar circles. Dates for the Polar Night as below:

There is no doctor or pharmacy on board. However, officers are trained in first aid and can provide emergency medical assistance. The ships are also always never too far from land should urgent medical assistance be required.

You may however choose the law and jurisdiction of Scotland or Northern Ireland if you wish to do so. When you book an air package holiday or sailing with us the contract between us will exist as soon as you or your travel agent asks us to confirm your booking. We then become responsible to provide you with the voyage arrangements or air package holiday you have booked and you become responsible to pay for them, in each case subject to these terms and conditions. You will also become responsible to pay for any additional arrangements made by us on your behalf including International Flights not included in any air package, optional excur sions , travel insuranc e or other arrangements requested by you and booked. When you make a booking you guarantee you have the authority to accept and do accept on behalf of your party the terms of these booking conditions and accept responsibility for making all payments to us for all members of the party. Furthermore, you consent to our use of your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and you are authorised on behalf of all persons named on the booking to disclose their personal details to us, including where applicable, special categories of dat a (such as information on health conditions or disabilities and dietary requirements). We are unable to accept provisional or conditional bookings . We will send all documents and other information to you and you will be responsible for ensuring that all other members of the party are kept fully informed. A confirmation invoice which you should check as soon as you receive it will be sent on receipt of your deposit. If you wish to change or cancel any arrangements later you may have to pay an amendment or cancellation charge and additional costs (see below) which may be as much as the whole of the original price of your arrangements. Only one invoice and one set of documents will be issued. No verbal amendments may be made by either party to these written booking conditions; any change must be in writing signed by the Chief Executive of Hurtigruten AS. If your confirmed arrangements include a flight, we (or if you booked via an authorised agent of ours, that agent) will issue you with an ATOL Certificate and a confirmation. Upon receipt, if you believe that any details on the ATOL Certificate or confirmation or any other document are wrong you must advise us immediately. If you book your holiday through a travel agent all communication must be through that agent . Please quote your booking reference number in all communications.

an ATOL Certificate. This lists the flight, accommodation, car hire and/or other services that are financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong. In the unlikely event of our insolvency the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad if you have booked a package holiday from this brochure and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information visit the ATOL website at www. atol.org.uk. The price of our flight inclusive holidays includes the amount of £2.50 per person as part of the ATOL Protection Contribution (APC) we pay to the CAA. This charge is included in our advertised prices. Not all holiday or travel services offered and sold by us will be protected by the ATOL Scheme. ATOL protection extends primarily to customers who book and pay in the United Kingdom. We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL Scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme. If you book arrangements other than an air packaged holiday from this brochure your monies are protected by our bond held with ABTA, membership number V7545 of 30 Park Street, London SE1 9EQ, www.abta. com. If you book arrangements other than a package holiday from us, your monies will not be financially protected. Please ask us for further details.

NORWAY'S NORTHERN LIGHTS 2019/20

Such variations could include but are not limited to airline cost changes which are part of our contracts with airlines (and their agents), cruise ship operators and any other transport providers. You will be charged for the amount of any increase in accordance with this clause. However, if this means that you have to pay an increase of more than 8% of the price of your confirmed holiday (excluding any insurance premiums , amendment charges and/or additional ser vices or travel arrangements), you will have the option of accepting a change to another holiday if we are able to offer one (if this is of equivalent or higher quality you will not have to pay more but if it is of lower quality you will be refunded the difference in price), or cancel-ling and receiving a full refund of all monies paid to us, except for any insurance premiums and any amendment charges and/or additional ser vices or travel arrangements. Should you wish to cancel under these circumstances you must exercise your right to do so within 7 days from the date of the invoice we send you showing the increase. Should the price of your voyage or air package holiday go down due to changes above then any refund due will be paid to you less an administrative fee of £10. Please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual or other protection in place. There will be no change made to the price of your confirmed holiday within 20 days of your departure nor will refunds be paid during this period. 5.B VOYAGE AND AIR PACKAGE HOLIDAY Prices Do Not Include: . Travel Insurance . Luggage Handling . Int ernat ional Flight s exc ep t w h ere included in the Air Package Holiday Price . Optional Excursions . Gratuities Optional Excursions booked before you travel or local excursions or other activities that you may choose to book and pay for whilst on holiday are not part of your voyage or air package holiday arrangement s provided by us nor are we agents for the provider of the service. For any excursion or other activity you book before departure or with which you are assisted in arranging whilst on holiday, your contract will solely be with the supplier of the excursion or activity and not with Hurtigruten. We are not responsible for the provision of your excursion or activity or for anything that happens during the course of its provision by the supplier. 6. IF YOU CHANGE YOUR BOOKING OR WISH TO TRANSFER YOUR BOOKING If you wish to change your travel arrangements af ter they have been confirmed we will do our utmost to help but it may not always be possible. Any request for changes to be made must be in writing by the person who made the booking or your travel agent. You will be asked to pay an administration charge of £60 per person and any further cost we incur in making this alteration. NB: most airlines will charge a fee for ticket changes. Costs may increase the closer to the departure date that changes are made. For example, the transfer within 60 days of departure of arrangements involving a scheduled flight will mean the cancellation and re-booking of this flight and a significant additional charge. If you change the number of people in your party, the price of the arrangements will be recalculated for the new party size e.g. this may mean that accommodation is underoccupied and each member of the party may have to pay an increased price. Any increase in price caused by changes you have requested is not a cancellation charge even though it may arise because a member of your party has cancelled.

Any change by you to your confirmed arrangements after departure is in all cases subject to availability and any relevant costs.

by your travel insurance you may be able to reclaim the cancellation charges, less applicable excess. Insurance premiums are not refundable.

s t andard , with a refund of the pric e d i ff e r e n c e b e t w e e n t h e o r i g i n a l arrangements and the alternative arrangements; or

Transfer of Booking: If you or any member of your par ty is prevented from travelling, that person(s) may transfer their place to someone else, subject to the following conditions:

Cancellation by you due to unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances You have the right to cancel your confirmed holiday before departure without paying a cancellation charge in the event of “unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances” occurring at your holiday destination or its immediate vicinity and significantly affecting the performance of the holiday or significant affecting the transport arrangements to the destination. In these circumstances, we shall provide you with a full refund of the monies you have paid but we will not be liable to pay you any additional compensation. Please note that your right to cancel in these circumstances will only apply where the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against travel to your destination or its immediate vicinity. For the purposes of this clause, “unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances” means warfare, acts of terrorism, significant risks to human health such as the outbreak of serious disease at the travel destination or natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes or weather conditions which make it impossible to travel safely to the travel destination.

(d) withdrawing from the booking completely in which case we will as soon as possible, refund all money paid to us.

(i) that person is introduced by you and satisfies all the conditions applicable to the holiday; (ii) we are notified not less than 7 days before departure; (iii) you pay any out st anding balance payment , an amendment fee of [£50] per person transferring, as well as any additional fees, charges or other costs arising from the transfer; and (iv. the transferee agrees to these booking conditions and all other terms of the contract between us. You and the transferee remain jointly and severally liable for payment of all sums. If you are unable to find a replacement, cancellation charges as set out in clause 7 will apply in order to cover our estimated costs. Otherwise, no refunds will be given for passengers not travelling or for unused services. Important Note: Certain arrangements may not be amende d or transferre d after they have been confirmed and any alteration could incur a cancellation charge of up to 100% of that part of the arrangements. 7. IF YOU CANCEL BEFORE DEPARTURE You, or any member of your party, may cancel your travel arrangements at any time. Written notification from the person who made the booking or your travel agent must be received at our offices. We recommend ‘Recorded Delivery’. Cancellation takes effect the day we receive your letter or email. Since we incur costs in relation to your arrangements from the time we confirm your booking you will have to pay the applicable cancellation charges as shown in the table below (which also applies if we cancel because you have failed to make payments on time - see ‘Payment’ section) together with the cost of any air fare for which we have had to pay at the time of the booking and will be payable immediately on cancellation. The cancellation charges below have been calculated as a genuine pre-estimate of the losses we would incur in the event you cancelled your holiday within the stipulated time period, taking into account the charges we will incur from our suppliers (some of which will be up to 100%) and the expected cost savings and income from alternative deployment of the travel services (if possible) calculated as an average charge over a period of time. 8. IF WE CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR BOOKING We reserve the right to change any of the det ails , and correct any errors in this brochure or invoices at any time. If changes are made before you have made your booking we will advise you before we confirm your arrangements. We reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements (for example if a minimum number of participants for a particular travel arrangements not reached, we may have to cancel it) and to change airline, aircraft types, vessels and itineraries without liability for any subsequent loss. Even after we have confirmed your booking we may have to make alterations but we will not cancel your travel arrangements less than 60 days before your departure except for reasons of Force Majeure or failure by you to pay the final balance in full. Most alterations will be minor and while we will do our best to notify you or your travel agent of any changes as soon as reasonably p os sible if there is time b efore your departure, we will have no other liability to you. Occasionally we may have to make a signi fic ant change to your c onfirmed arrangements. Significant changes include the following: • Change of UK departure airport. A change from one London airport to another is not considered a major change. London airports are Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City. • Change of your time of departure or return by more than 12 hours. • Change of your flight from a day flight to a night flight if this also includes a change to your departure time of 3 hours or more.† • Change of resort. • Change of holiday accommodation to accommodation of a lower official rating. †For the purposes of the contract night flights are those which depart from the UK between 2200 and 0600 hours or arrive in the UK between 2400 and 0600 hours. If we have to make a significant change or cancel we will notify you as soon as possible and if there is time to do so before departure we will offer you the choice of: (a) (for significant changes) accepting the change and the contract between us will then be varied to incorporate the change; or (b) accepting alternative arrangements alto gether (subje c t to availabilit y) of comparable or higher standard from us (at no extra cost); or (c) if available, accepting an o ffer of al t ernat i ve arr an g em ent s o f a l ower

Passengers must give notice of their decision as soon as reasonably possible and not later than 7 days of being informed of the alteration. If we do not hear from you within 7 days, we will contact you again to request notification of your choice. If you fail to respond again, we will assume that you have chosen to accept the change or alternative booking arrangements. Compensation In addition to a full refund of all monies paid by you, we will pay you compensation a s d e t a i l e d b e l o w, i n t h e f o l l o w i n g circumstances: – I f , w h e r e w e m a k e a s i g n i fi c a n t change, you do not accept the changed arrangements and cancel your booking; – I f we c an c e l your b o okin g an d n o alternative arrangements are available. * The compensation shown above applies to full fare paying adults only. Children or others travelling at concessionary rates will receive compensation pro rata based on the concessionary price against the full adult price as shown on the confirmation.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: We will not pay you compensation in the following circumstances: – where we make an insignificant change; – where we make a significant change or cancel your arrangements more than 60 days before departure; - where we make a significant change and you accept those changed arrangements or you accept an offer of alternative travel arrangements; – where we have to cancel your arrangements as a result of your failure to make full payment on time; – where the change or cancellation by us arises out of alterations to the confirmed booking requested by you; – where we are forced to cancel or change your arrangements due to Force Majeure (see clause 9). If we become unable to provide a significant proportion of the arrangements that you have booked with us after you have departed, we will, if possible, make alternative arrangements for you at no extra charge and where those alternative arrangements are of a lower standard, provide you with an appropriate price reduction. A flight or ship delay does not constitute a change to holiday arrangements. 9. reasonable measures had been taken. Examples include war fare and acts of terrorism (and threat thereof), civil strife, significant risks to human health such as the outbreak of serious disease at the travel destination or natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes or weather conditions which make it impossible to travel safely to the travel destination or remain at the travel destination, the act of any government or other national or local authority including port or river authorities, industrial dispute, lock closure, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, chemical or biological disaster, unavoidable technical problems with transport and all similar events outside our or the supplier(s) concerned’s control. Brexit Implications: please note that certain travel arrangements may be affected as a result of the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union. This could include an unavailability of certain flight routes, access to certain ports and airports and changes to the visa requirements of British citizens travelling to, within or through the EU. Please rest assured that this is something we will continue to monitor and will advise our customers as soon as possible if we become aware of any confirmed bookings that will be affected. However, since this is something which is completely unprecedented and outside our control, we would treat any such changes as Force Majeure, and whilst we will endeavour to provide suitable alternative arrangements or refunds where possible, we will not be liable to pay you any compensation. 10. COMPLAINT PROCEDURE If there is a problem during your holiday, you must report it on board immediately or to the relevant airline, ground handler, hotelier or other supplier, so that prompt efforts can be made to resolve the problem. In the unlikely event that a problem cannot be resolved at the time and you wish to complain, you must send us full written details within 28 days of your return. Failure to take either or both of these steps will prejudice our ability to resolve your problem and / or investigate it fully. In consequence, any right to compensation you may have will be extinguished or, at the very least, substantially reduced. Where the port of embarkation for your sailing is in the EU then any complaints relating to EU Regulation 1177/2010 on Passenger Rights when travelling by Sea and Inland waterways must be made to us in writing no later than 2 months after return from travel or the date on which the service complained of was performed. We will provide a final reply within 2 months. You must supply full details to enable us to deal with your complaint. In the unlikely event that any complaint cannot be settled between us you may if you wish be referred to Arbitration. This special scheme, by arrangement with ABTA is administered by CEDR Solve. It applies if your claim is for not more than £5,000 per person or £25,000 per booking and does not involve physical injury or illness. The scheme provides for a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration conducted privately based on written documentation and evidence with limited customer liability on costs. Full details are available on request or from ABTA Ltd, 30 Park Street, London SE1 9EQ, www. abta.com. You can also access the European Commission Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at http://ec.europa.eu/ consumers/odr/. 11. OUR LIABILITY TO YOU (i) We will accept responsibility for the arrangements we agree to provide or arrange for you as an ‘organiser’ under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 as set out below and, as such, we are responsible for the proper provision of all travel services included in your package as set out in your confirmation invoice. Subject to these booking conditions, if we or our suppliers negligently perform or arrange those services and we do not

remedy or resolve your complaint within a reasonable period of time, we will pay you reasonable compensation. The level of such compensation will be calculated taking into consideration all relevant factors such as but not limited to: following the complaints procedure as described in these conditions and the extent to which ours or our employees’ or suppliers’ negligence affected the overall enjoyment of your holiday. Please note that it is your responsibility to show that we or our supplier(s) have been negligent if you wish to make a claim against us. (ii) We will not be responsible or pay you compensation for any injury, illness, death, loss, damage, expense, cost or other claim of any description if it results from: (a) the acts and/or omissions of the person affected; or (b) the acts and/or omissions of a third party unconnected with the provision of the services contracted for and which were unavoidable and extraordinary; or (c) Force Majeure (as defined in clause 9). (iii) Where death and or personal injury and or loss of or damage to property occurs during carriage by air or by sea then liability and the extent of damages recoverable will be dealt with by International Conventions as set out in paragraphs (v) and (vi) and subject to paragraph (ii) and not otherwise. (iv) As set out in these booking conditions we limit the maximum amount we may have to pay you for any claims you may make against us which do not involve personal injury, illness or death. Except where loss of and/or damage to luggage or personal possessions is concerned if we are found liable to you on any basis the maximum amount we will have to pay you is up to three times the price (excluding insurance premiums and amendment charges) paid by or on behalf of the person(s) affected in total unless a lower limitation applies to your claim under clause 11 (vi) below. (v) Where any claim or part of a claim (including those involving death or personal injury) concerns or is based on any travel arrangements (including the process of getting on and/or off the transport concerned) provided by any air, sea, rail or road carrier or any stay in a hotel, the maximum amount of compensation we will have to pay you will be limited. The most we will have to pay you for that claim or that part of a claim if we are found liable to you on any basis is the most the carrier or hotel keeper concerned would have to pay under the international convention or regulation which applies to the travel arrangements or hotel stay in question. (for example, the Warsaw Convention as amended or unamended and the Montreal Convention for international travel by air and/or for airlines with an operating licence granted by an EU country, the EC Regulation on Air Carrier Liability No 889/2002 for national and international travel by air, the Athens convention for international travel by sea). Please note: Where a carrier or hotel would not be obliged to make any payment to you under the applicable International Convention or Regulation in respect of a claim or part of a claim, we similarly are not obliged to make a payment to you for that claim or part of the claim. When making any payment, we are entitled to deduct any money which you have received or are entitled to receive from the transport provider or hotelier for the complaint or claim in question. Copies of the applicable International Conventions and Regulations are available from us on request. We do not have any liability to you by virtue of the Regulation 261/2004 which applies solely to the operating carrier. Any liability we may have to you under our contract with you, arising out of the same facts, is limited to the remedies provided under the Regulation as if (for this purpose only) we were a carrier; any sums you receive

from the carrier will be deducted from any amount due from ourselves. (vi) Travel by sea is governed by the provisions of the Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea 1974 as amended in 1976 (“The Athens Convention) and where applicable from 1 January 2013 EU Regulation 392/2009 relating to the Liability of carriers of passengers by sea in the event of accidents (“EU Regulation 392/2009). For the purposes of the Athens Convention and EU Regulation 392/2009 we are the Contracting Carrier. The Athens Convention and EU Regulation 392/2009 limit the Carriers’ liability for death or personal injury or loss or damage to luggage and makes special provision for valuables. It is presumed that luggage has been delivered to you undamaged unless written notice is given by us and/or the performing Carrier. (a) in the case of apparent damage, before or at the time of disembarkation or redelivery; or (b) in the case of damage which is not apparent or of loss, within 15 days from the date of disembarkation or redelivery or from the time when such redelivery should have taken place. Damages for cabin luggage payable by the Carrier are limited up to the Athens Convention limit of 833 SDRs or 2250 SDRs if EU Regulation 392/2009 applies. Limits shall be reduced in proportion to any contributory negligence by the Client and by the maximum deductible specified in Article 8(4) of the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009. In so far as we may be liable to a Client in respect of claims arising out of carriage by sea, we shall be entitled to all the rights, defences, immunities and limitations available, respectively, to the actual carrier and under the relevant Conventions and nothing in these booking conditions shall be deemed as a surrender thereof. To the extent that any provision in these booking conditions is made null and void by the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 or any legislation compulsorily applicable or is otherwise unenforceable, it shall be void to that extent but not further.
