Educational and Experiential Cruising Our travellers enjoy journeys that deliver more, with programs that allow more time ashore, select educational programs from internationally acclaimed expert lecture staff and the freedom to explore further and more freely. Across our cruise itineraries the focus is always on providing the highest quality experience in exceptional destinations. In keeping with a commitment to provide tailored experiences in all destinations we offer two styles of voyaging. Both retain the same core principles and benefits that we believe makes our voyages great.

Expedition Cruising The key principle to remember when expedition cruising is “Expect the Unexpected. If you enjoy seeing and experiencing the wonders of nature, an expedition cruise offers the perfect environment for this. Expedition cruises take you to less developed shores which allows for greater flexibility and spontaneity. These voyages set forth with an aim to explore and discover. It is often the unexpected events that become the highlight of the journey. Generally the majority of expedition excursions will make use of zodiac landing craft. These agile and stable craft are ideal for landing in otherwise inaccessible places, providing you with up-close encounters with wildlife and local communities. Travelling aboard an expedition ship is often the only way to access and explore the remote destinations they visit, providing a home in the wilderness and the means to tread where few have been before. Discover the treasures on our planet that remain pristine, from polar seas to tropical atolls. Explore with a team of expert naturalists who will travel ashore with you and also will provide informative presentations aboard.

Small Ship Cruising These voyages explore more populated coastlines where the ships are able to dock in ports and harbours. The beauty of small ships is that they are not constrained to large ports and you will often find yourself in smaller towns and villages. The style and pace of exploration is less energetic than expedition cruising but the focus is still very much on the destination and providing maximum time ashore. Itineraries are often themed with a focus on a particular region or aspect such as history and culture. On many departures there are special guest lecturers and presenters who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm during the voyage and on forays ashore. Small ship cruising allows you to learn about the wonders of nature, culture and ancient civilisations in the company of a small group of like-minded guests in a relaxed yet comfortable atmosphere.

This morning we will explore the capital of Ambodifotatra including the oldest church in Madagascar built in 1837 and the vibrant market. DAYS 5 & 6: Nosy Mangabe & Masoala National Park At Nosy Mangabe, a 520 hectare island reserve in Antongil Bay we find one of the most diverse areas of virgin rain forest in Madagascar which has also been an important research centre since the mid-1960s. We will use our Zodiacs to land on the beach next to the forest and organise a series of nature walks looking at the varied trees, plants and ferns and also hope to spot chameleon, lizards and black and white ruffed lemur. We will run a series of walks for

all levels during our time here whilst you will also have the option to swim off the beach or perhaps visit the local village. DAY 7: Diego Suarez We will enter dramatic Diego Suarez, a stunning natural harbour with a cosmopolitan mix of inhabitants including Creoles, Indians, Chinese, Comorans and Arabs. After a brief tour of the town we will use 4x4 vehicles to make our way to the Malagasy Rainforest at the Mount Amber National Park. We will see the four hectare botanical garden which comprises over 900 species of plants of which 90% are endemic to the region. DAY 13: Europa Island, Mozambique Chanel This uninhabited island is an important nesting ground for sea turtles and seabirds as well as being a migratory stop for birds moving between Africa and Madagascar. Its isolation has also contributed to a unique flora and fauna including a number of endemic subspecies of birds and reptiles.
