Educational and Experiential Cruising Our travellers enjoy journeys that deliver more, with programs that allow more time ashore, select educational programs from internationally acclaimed expert lecture staff and the freedom to explore further and more freely. Across our cruise itineraries the focus is always on providing the highest quality experience in exceptional destinations. In keeping with a commitment to provide tailored experiences in all destinations we offer two styles of voyaging. Both retain the same core principles and benefits that we believe makes our voyages great.

EXPEDITION CRUISING The key principle to remember when expedition cruising is “Expect the Unexpected. If you enjoy seeing and experiencing the wonders of nature, an expedition cruise offers the perfect environment for this. Expedition cruises take you to less developed shores which allows for greater flexibility and spontaneity. These voyages set forth with an aim to explore and discover. It is often the unexpected events that become the highlight of the journey. Generally the majority of expedition excursions will make use of zodiac landing craft. These agile and stable craft are ideal for landing in otherwise inaccessible places, providing you with up-close encounters with wildlife and local communities. Travelling aboard an expedition ship is often the only way to access and explore the remote destinations they visit, providing a home in the wilderness and the means to tread where few have been before. Discover the treasures on our planet that remain pristine, from polar seas to tropical atolls. Explore with a team of expert naturalists who will travel ashore with you and also will provide informative presentations aboard.

SMALL SHIP CRUISING These voyages explore more populated coastlines where the ships are able to dock in ports and harbours. The beauty of small ships is that they are not constrained to large ports and you will often find yourself in smaller towns and villages. The style and pace of exploration is less energetic than expedition cruising but the focus is still very much on the destination and providing maximum time ashore. Itineraries are often themed with a focus on a particular region or aspect such as history and culture. On many departures there are special guest lecturers and presenters who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm during the voyage and on forays ashore. Small ship cruising allows you to learn about the wonders of nature, culture and ancient civilisations in the company of a small group of like-minded guests in a relaxed yet comfortable atmosphere.

BOUTIQUE and Exclusive If you enjoy a more personal style of travel where you travel with smaller groups, discover more, and engage with your fellow travellers then our ships and programs could well be perfect. By travelling aboard a small ship we guarantee that you will spend less time in queues and more time experiencing the unique destinations on the itinerary or engaging with fellow travellers and the ship’s crew. This all combines to create an exclusive and intimate yet relaxed atmosphere.

ALL INCLUSIVE Most of Wild Earth’s voyages are all inclusive. This means that what you read in the itinerary is included in the price, with no hidden extras or nasty surprises. On the rare occasions when there is an optional excursion this will be noted in the itinerary. Aboard our more luxurious vessels the bar drinks are also included. While this may mean that our voyages are not the cheapest available, remember you have paid for everything upfront as you purchase the cruise and the experiences all at once. Our customers consistently agree that our voyages represent excellent value for money.

TRANSPARENCY OF PRICING World currencies continue to fluctuate significantly. We offer you cruise prices in the currency that the individual ships operate. Rather than factoring in guaranteed local prices which invariably mean that you pay more, we will always offer you the best available price on the day of payment. DAY 1: Port Louis, Mauritius Embark the Silver Discoverer and enjoy sail away cocktails on the deck. DAY 2 – 3: Cargados Bank, Mauritius Enjoy two days of exploring the islands, coral reefs and turquoise lagoons as the Silver Discoverer plys St. Brandon’s picturesque waters. Over 40 islands pepper the Bank, while coral reefs cover approximately 190 kms underwater. Fascinating geology, marine life and bird species await your exploration. DAY 4 – 5: At Sea The relaxed pace of sea time is a welcome balance to the days of adventure. Enjoy lectures onboard by our experts who will stimulate both thought and conversation aboard the ship.

DAY 6: Antisiranana, Madagascar Be out on deck as the Silver Discoverer enters the Bay of Diego, one of the largest natural bays in the world. We will travel to Montagne d’Ambre (Amber Mountain), a park famous for its waterfalls, crater lakes and wildlife, especially chameleons. We will then visit Domaine de Fontenay and its 300 hectares of parkland, home to five species of lemur, fifteen waterfalls, leaf-tailed geckos and ring-tailed mongoose. DAY 7: Nosy Be & Ampangorinana, Nosy Komba We will head to Lokobe Strict Reserve, located on the southern side of Nosy Be. The reserve’s humid evergreen forests are the habitat of endangered black lemurs that only occur in this part of Madagascar. It is also home to endemic birds including the Madagascar Pygmy Kingfisher and the Madagascar Long-eared Owl. Spectacular pantherchameleons, local endemic frogs and several snakes also reside here. After hiking in the western part of the reserve, we will pay a visit to one of the ylang-ylang distilleries. There are so many pleasant fragrances enveloping the island, including ylang-ylang, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, coconut, and cinnamon, that Nosy Be’s potpourri of nature’s scents will give yet another dimension to our visit. Nosy Komba’s dense tropical forest, surrounded by clear waters, is home to a multitude of animals from lemurs and makis macacos, to chameleons and 19 species of birds. Sea turtles, rays, and dolphins also frequent the waters around Nosy Komba. 44

DAY 8: Assumption, Seychelles Enjoy a morning at sea before we clear into the Seychelles at Assumption Island and head towards Aldabra. DAY 9 – 10: Aldabra, Seychelles Aldabra is reputedly the world’s second-largest atoll. For two days Silver Discoverer will anchor off Aldabra for the opportunity to visit this remote part of the Seychelles’ Outer Islands. It will truly be a privilege to visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Aldabra is virtually untouched by humans and its distinctive island fauna includes the Aldabra Giant Tortoise. We hope to enjoy exhilarating drift snorkels as the incoming tide whisks us into a lagoon populated with eagle rays, turtles, and coral gardens teeming with marine life. Time and tides permitting, we may cruise via Zodiac through narrow channels between fossilised coral islands, and between mangrove-covered islands to observe large colonies of nesting boobies and Great Frigatebirds soaring overhead. As the tides pump water in and out of the lagoon, massive numbers of fish come and go through the channels to feed. We can snorkel in these same channels, allowing the current to carry us along in the magical scene. Conditions permitting, we will go ashore to visit the small research station on Picard Island and photograph the mighty tortoises. DAY 11: At Sea A day at sea presents a perfect opportunity to enjoy a workout in the gym or indulge in a massage. DAY 12: Zanzibar, Tanzania Following breakfast, disembark Silver Discoverer.
