MANAGER'S MESSAGE
By Rob CiapannaSummer is here, which means increased time outside! I've dedicated this article to friendly reminders to help keep everyone safe this summer season
Please be mindful of the children participating in various activities in and around the clubhouse, driving range, and pool from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday during our Kids Entertainment Summer Camp, which kicks off June 10th and runs through August 2nd. The club is also hosting a Junior Golf Camp June 17th-21st for ages 6-14 Don't miss out! Registration is still open for both camps Visit https://kecamps.com/ and the Golf Shop for more details.
Pool Safety
As a reminder, there is no lifeguard on duty at the pool, and children should always be accompanied by an adult.
We all know that this time of year brings the chances for those quick pop-up afternoon thunderstorms. The club does not have a Lightning Detection Alarm System Be mindful of when a storm is approaching and take appropriate shelter Come in off the golf course and stay out of the pool until the storm passes.
The club is equipped with 4 AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). They are located off the clubhouse lobby, between the restrooms at the pool, the Golf Shop, and Golf Course Maintenance Please remind your families of the AEDs and their locations in the event of a cardiac arrest situation.
The more we all are aware of our surroundings, the more we can ensure a fun and safe summer for our families and guests. Remember to always call 911 first in the event of an emergency.
TURF TALK
by Patrick HensleyWant to see how the sand gets deep down into the greens? Check out this image of the injection process!
October
By the time you read this, we will have completed our first aerification of the year using the Dryject process on the Hills greens. Dryject uses highpressure water to inject dried sand into the soil We used this method last year as well. It's a less disruptive approach compared to traditional core aeration, while achieving similar benefits.
Here's why aerification is important:
Relieves Compaction: Mowing and rolling over time compact the greens. Aerification loosens the soil, improving air and water movement. Improves Drainage: Adding sand helps dilute organic matter, which can trap water and hinder drainage. Promotes Root Health: Increased air circulation in the root zone allows for better oxygen exchange and nutrient uptake.
We understand you might wonder why we aerify healthy greens It's because strong, healthy turf recovers faster from these practices.
We'll be performing two more green aerifications and some fairway and tee aerifications this summer.
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
PARKER'S POINTERS
by Parker MulfordWe live in the Lowcountry, and while we may not experience the dramatic elevation changes of other golfing regions, we still encounter uneven lies where the ball is above or below our feet. This month's focus is on mastering these challenging shots.
Below-the-feet Lies:
When the ball sits below your feet, maintaining proper posture is key. A deeper knee bend, around 45 degrees, is essential to prevent topping the shot. These downhill lies tend to "bleed" right, so aim a touch left and swing through the target line Move the ball position one ball closer to your front foot compared to a flat lie.
Above-the-feet Lies:
Uphill lies require a different approach Stand a bit more upright and consider choking down on the grip (or moving the ball back in your stance) to compensate for the steeper angle Remember, choking up reduces swing length, so you might need a longer club. For example, if your usual 7-iron carries 150 yards, you might need a 6-iron after choking up. Since uphill shots can hook left, aim slightly right of the target.
With these tips, a smooth tempo, and confidence in your ability, you can conquer these challenging shots and add them to your golfing repertoire.
Enjoy the diverse challenges and have a great season!
