Obituary
A precious soul, Willie B. Scruggs, 77, was carried to rest with Jesus Christ on September 6, 2018. She was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. Her faith carried her through her illness. To know her was to love her, and to be in her presence was to experience the love of God. Willie B. Scruggs was born in Crawfordsville, Arkansas to the late Willie and Susie Pruitt on June 8, 1941. She was the third child of twelve. Upon moving to Chicago, Illinois, she married Mr. Lawrence C. Scruggs, Sr. To this union, two children were born: a precious daughter, Shirley Jean Scruggs (who preceded her in death) and a loving son, Lawrence Scruggs. Her faith in God led her to join the Peter’s Rock COGIC under the leadership of Elder Andrew Lane, and she remained a faithful member there until her return to Memphis in 2015. She was a faithful prayer warrior who had a strong belief in fasting, praying and teaching the Word of God. She also had a special gift for cooking from scratch which she loved to share. As a teacher, she knew the Word of God and spent many hours in prayer for His people! She was indeed chosen by God and she always had a song for His people. To many, she was a precious jewel who has now gained her Heavenly reward. To cherish her memory, she leaves her son, Lawrence (Pamela) Scruggs, two grandsons: Lashawn Warren and Micah Kelly of Chicago, Illinois; four sisters: Georgia Grandberry, Fannie L. Johnson, Susizett (Lee) Colbert, and Catherine Pruitt; two brothers: Robert Johnson and Curtis McMillan; special first cousins: Larkin Jones, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, Cora White of Memphis, Tennessee, and Nelly Brownlee of Helena, Arkansas. Five siblings preceded her in death: Nathanial Pruitt, Walter Pruitt, Joel Pruitt, Maurice Johnson, and Odessa Osby. She also leaves another sister, Christen Willis and a brotherin-law, Charles Willis. She left many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, and her church family. She will be truly missed.
